An OBEX messaging system thingymajiggy is where I get a message, and in the process of getting it from A to B, one quarter of the information is lost or changed to something completely different.

OBES. Twisted Evil
I'm not in a helpful mood, nor am I being funny - sorry.

Anyone notice the advertisement for V-message at the botton of the document? I've never heard of it, and google shows no sign of anything significant, either. Is it a clue, or does the tribal cheif have his own personal email client?

Are we perhaps supposed to follow these directions. The text ad reads...

Are you using the latest version of V-Message? Download V-Message 7 today!

"v-Message is format for messages that is part of the Infrared Mobile Computing (IrMC) protocol. A Message Object is much like a Note Object, except that it is sent from one entity to another. It provides detailed information such as the sender, the subject field, and the message description."

not sure how this helps or ties in.... thought I'd throw it out there

I'll throw this out at you all and see if its relevent...

you're all looking at the v-message bit at the bottom, maybe we're all overlooking the obvious.

Theres an email address for Peter Thompson at the top of that page;

I think we've covered this before on page 1, but just to be clear:
make sure you are "logged in" and see the hacked site. I usually do this on the Executive Bios page - squiggles all over alvar hanso's picture means it's been hacked. If you aren't logged in you might not get the MFI hack.
Step 1 - go to the Mathematical Forcasting page under Active Projects.
Step 2 - click the Mfi logo on the right. (click the logo again in the middle of the map)
Step 3 - find the three fill-in-the-blanks, and fill them in.
US: 42000 Italy: 10.4 Sudan: 2.55 (Sudan is in Africa)
Step 4 - There should now be a circle in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Click it to get the new memo.

I had no problems accessing the memo just now.

sapagoo

EDIT: I like the suggestion above - maybe you've got an old .swf file still stuck in your cache.[/quote]

please add:
Step 3a, type in the missing number and then press 'Enter' for each.
That step was not obvious to me. May not be to others. Thanks.

Ok, I'm a new kid on this block- been lurking for a couple of weeks but this is my first post. So forgive me if I'm "trouting" (is that a verb?), posting in the wrong place or overreaching. But doesn't it seem like:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The missing portions of the hole2 figure's face- the famous "horse"- actually represents the southeastern coastline of Africa as shown on this map? With Madagascar defining the area under the horse's mouth? Could this be what hole2 was pointing us toward- just telling us where the portal to the latest hidden doc- the circle in the Indian Ocean- can be found? I personally thought everyone who was looking for an image in the face was way off base- but maybe I was wrong.

Please tell me I'm not crazy- at least in this regard.

*An addition to the previous post- someone at lostexperienceclues.blogspot.com posted a screen cap of the image you get when you click on the hole. After looking at it, I noticed:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
There's a mysterious land mass to the right of the hole. With the land mass added, it looks even more like the "horse's head". See for yourself:

I have some serious doubts this means anything significant, but hey, I'm not a big picture kind of guy. The overlay of the face onto the Indian Ocean matches up surprisingly well. Not well enough to think that one picture was used to create the other, but well enough I'm not sure it's coincidence.

The gray area is the "horse face" and the entire whited out area of the face from hole2. It fits neatly inbetween India, and Africa (after resizing it, but not changing the aspect ratio) and one of the streaks in his hair even fits with the Red Sea.

weird map data

Okay this evening I had to clear my cache (don't ask) and so I had to go through a lot of the THF stuff all over again. When I got to the MFI map, I needed to look up the necessary figures again from the CIA factbook. This got me curious about the other figures that were already on the map, so I ended up checking some of them. Well, all of them actually, and the vast majority of the figures were taken directly from the CIA figures. However, three numbers listed on the MFI map are different from the factbook:

Namibia GDP per capita:
map: $8200
factbook: $7000

Iran GDP per capita:
map: $8100
factbook: $8300

UK GDP per capita:
map: $30,900
factbook: $30,300

Now normally I would think that perhaps these numbers were from another year or another source, but the fact of the matter is that ALL of the other data matches exactly with what's in the factbook. They clearly meant for us to use this to fill in the blanks for Italy, etc.

So what gives? Am I chasing ghosts?

Interesting find, but I can't imagine how that relates. I'm guessing maybe the factbook site recently updated some of their info with the ARG using slightly older info. However, if the change was intentional it does seem like they're making Namibia look like it has a higher GDP than Iran, when in fact that's not the case.

I agree here. This seems too random and vague to lead anywhere.

From what I remember from digging around in the CIA factbook when I first discovered it is that it has a major update once a year. But I still wouldn't suppose that the PMs got their info last year.

Once I emailed them (the CIA Very Happy ) about how their info was wrong (in the info on the country flags, it says that so and so country is the only one to incorporate a building in the design, when clearly some other flag does too...) and as far as I know, that part hasn't been updated. Wink

I'd vote for an intentional change, because it doesn't particularly look like a typo, either.

On the MFI world map page.....the page where you click on the icons to get the country information...see the pic above...

Every 22 to 23 seconds, it goes a lot darker very briefly, as though an image has been overlayed

Ok. I thought you were talking about a particular image withing the map, but you're basically talking about the entire map as an image. I tried working with your picture above in photoshop, but I can't make anything else out of it. It appears they just darkened much of the image, and that was it. I'm guessing the intent is to help us focus on areas not darkened.

Thanks for looking into this, Yauch. The discovery of hole3 made me doubt this speculation, but as yet hole3 hasn't really shed any light on hole2, so it seems like hole2 is still in play. Anyway, if this is a coincidental match up, it's a surprisingly close one...

Am I losing my mind or am I about to be trouted like hell but has anyone noticed that the text in top right hand corner of the MFI page has the text of the country whited out as well as the capitol? I'll post a screenshot. Trout me if necessary.

Namaste.

Trout only because you requested it. Wink

From http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=236881#236881 (yeah, page 21 in a long thread, and a post from May 6th)

I used Search on the term 'steevo' only because I knew that was one of the three blanked out words in that text.

(it really helps to turn on Smilies with a post like this)
