Has someone captured the video? For some reason I'm unable to view it when I go the "48" folder.

It's a quicktime movie...do you have QT installed? In the meantime, I'll try to get the movie in another format and up it somewhere.

Namaste.

It opened up fine for me in QuickTime, so it's still there. I suspect it's on YouTube already, though. (quick check: Yep, it's on YouTube here).

So continuing my seeming obsession with strange timestamps in this game, here is something I haven't seen mentioned yet. This is the directory listing of the http://www.sublymonal.com/_hidden/48/ directory:

Code:

 Parent Directory        01-Apr-2001 18:39      -
 untitled-1.html         06-Jun-2006 07:33      -
 untitled-2.html         27-Jun-2006 04:61      -

Notice anything strange?

For untitled-1.html: The movie was apparently posted over two weeks ago -- is that even possible? Aren't Rachel's activities supposed to be happening in real time?

For untitled-2.html: This Hackett letter was apparently posted next week... in the future. Neat trick.

Finally.. what the HECK kind of time is 04:61?? Wouldn't that just be 05:01? Hrm.

EDIT: I just noticed that the first time 18:39 and the weird time 04:61 add up to 23:00. Yea, that's right: 23. See? That solves everything...Rolling Eyes

That is odd. I wonder if it means anything?

Namaste.

So much for it being an island on the equator. She was only off by a couple thousand miles.

I think thats great. She knows as much as we do. It looked like a tropical island from those pics, but the can be deciving. What I think is funny is that the top secret cartographers Mittlewerk is working with just printed off a google earth screen shot for him. Laughing

I had the exact same thought about the Danish Cartographical Society. Mittlewerk paid big bucks, I'm sure, and all they did was to use Google Maps. Nice!

Another thought: I wonder if the "he smells like pine trees" was a hint of sorts to look up north rather than at the equator, because boy was she wrong otherwise!

Hey guys... I've been thinking about this GidgetGirl and why she might want those photos taken down from Rachel's blog.

What if by brushing GidgetGirl off, Rachel is actually isolating the person who could help us best? Namely, Persephone?

What if Persephone is the girl in those photographs of Hugh McIntyre? We should tell Rachel Blake to take down the photos of Hugh McIntyre and listen to what GidgetGirl has to say.

Thanks for the YouTube link. I have QuickTime, but it's giving me trouble.

I wonder about the earlier spec involving DSLerator talling Matt_the_Pale to "Use the Force" and Rachel ending this video with "May the Force be with you." I almost wonder if they're intentionally making Matt an in-game character. Can they do that? My spec here has to do with his interest in the Valenzetti Equation. Are these somehow subtle hints involving the equation. That is, is some kind of "force" used in the equation?

Looking at his Matt's blog (http://findvalenzetti.blogspot.com), I noticed something else of interest. DSLelerator referred to Mandrake Wig as "the Drake" when talking to Matt. Well, one of the first things you notice on the comments regarding the Valenzetti equation is its similarity to "the Drake equation." Coincidence? I think not.

It's tough, however, to know what the Valenzetti equation is. That same comment (by "brammers") has a link to an explanation of the equation, but if you go to the link the PDF file is gone. Hopefully Matt, or somebody, has a copy of that file. There are no measures of force in the Drake Equation, but might there be one in the Valenzetti Equation?

In-game characters are not allowed to post here.

It's probably just the PTB giving a nod to player-character interaction, which is a good thing. We want more of that; it makes this into an ARG. I'm certainly not an in-game character by any stretch of the imagination.

I have a copy of the PDF file you're talking about -- it's nothing but a copy of the Wikipedia article on Valenzetti which was later erased. You can find a copy of that article at the LostPedia. I actually have a very good summary of the facts involving the Valenzetti Equation at The Lost Experience Research Blog. It's the third post from the bottom. =/

Finally, didn't Persephone in the June 13 ERI Hack mention something about a "crucial force"? Perhaps they're not related, but it was still an unusual phrase that stood out at the time. Who knows?

EDIT: By the way, most of the credit for the Find Valenzetti blog goes to vexingmodstwo! Give him the credit for that, not me! I'm just an editor and proofreader.

I posted a similar question in that blog asking about the file. I also offered some spec on a possible solution to the equation.

I see from the link you gave that nobody knows what the equation looks like. I was hoping maybe you guys already know what it is, but just haven't figured out the variables.

What site was that? If that page came from there it really makes me wonder, because the map is the same place but upside down. It's actually mirrored. That is, North and South are reversed but East and West are the same, but that's the same exact place, no doubt at all.

I know you'll want to double-check me because I've rushed to conclusions before on this board, but this time I carefully compared all the various features. Look at both sides on the pennisula, the shape of the lake, the other island, etc. Everything is a precise mirror.

What I'm not sure about is what that graphical map to the side with the octogon around it is.

That's the Apostle Islands, just north of Bayfield, WI in Lake Superior. I'm from Milwaukee and I've been there before.

Here's a Google zoom in of the area, although the map in the faded picture is more zoomed out so whatever spot we're meant to go to may be just outside this Google map: Apostle Islands

Hey Gus, the broken link on the "brammers" post is the same information that can be found at the lostpedia entry for the Valenzetti equation:

http://lostpedia.com/wiki/Valenzetti

The link brammers provided was a pdf of the boxed out section on the link above. I didn't tell you straight out on my blog because I want to keep that blog "in-character", if you know what I mean.

Wow, terrific solves on finding the video and then AMAZING work turning up an island somewhere in the world so fast.

It's weird, I know this area - if you look at this map:

You can see the gray line drawn across the middle is the US-Canada border. Right below the border in US waters is long island running SW-NE. This is Isle Royale, a National Park. Went there on my honeymoon almost exactly a year ago and as a result I know that the main shipping channel into Thunder Bay runs right off the NE tip of Isle Royale. Also, you can see the Northern Lights there (ERI link?) but this time of year you get dusky twilight almost all night and so its hard to see.

Just my two cents on an excellent thread, don't know how much it helps.

Maybe I am grasping at straws as my lunch break ends, but, didn't this post by Rachel end with "live long and prosper"? Now, it says signing off. I was searching for something like Vulcan Island or Spock Island before the solve was posted.
