[meta] Some logo ideas

Well, I'm sitting at work with nothing to do and illustrator in front of me. So I had a little fun. I don't think the Hive vignette for the HA logo really sells itself as a hive that well, any ideas on how to improve it? Click the pic for a scalable/editable PDF.

(bonus points for anyone who gets the reference in the HA design.)

Well, the shape is reminiscent of the "kiln hive", which is one variant of the bee box - so named because it looks like a miniature kiln.

As for the font - it reminds me of the Haunted Mansion and Agatha Christie's mystery novels (but I'm probably way off . . . ).

Bingo, but the shape too. Fonts used are Colonna and Birch. Colonna is used pretty much as-is, but jammed together. Birch was modified to get it to look a little more like the inspiration.

Here's a "photoshoppy" one I made just now out of boredom:

Click thumbnail to enlarge ( 1024x768, 105KB )

Obvious Xbox references etc etc, standard barcode thingmajiggy (should read out "beekeepers" but I'm not sure). Razz

That is very well done, we should show our geek pride by making badges out of these and wearing them around.

That would make people so jealous of us. They'd be like: "what's that?" And we could be all like: "It's just this thing"

It would rock!

I'd have to ask Wolf to be sure, but that font reminds me of the Haunted Mansion. Very Happy

Ooh, me like! Smile

Especially the green one, because of the Xbox link, and because, well... I guess I have a habitual preference for barcodes Wink

I did notice. Have you read both the mayday text and the widow's story (as well as the computer code)?

Geek time.

The Haunted Mansion font can be downloaded on the net as either Ruben or Ravenscroft (Ravenscroft is a fuller, more detailed version of the font than Reuben). The slightly modified version of the font used for the film title is also available, but I can't remember what it's called.

Ravenscroft and Ruben are downloadable here: http://mickeyavenue.com/fonts/disney-fonts.html

Not that I'm a fan or anything.

I'll just toss this in. Spacebass said he wanted to see it on a t-shirt, but in light of the negative reaction people've had towards the other ilovebees t-shirt guy, I think I'm gonna hold off on that.

Forgive the unfinishedness, it's a concept. To be copyright legal I'd have to draw everything by hand. But it made some people smile, so, why not post it, I guess. ^^;
