The monster is a baby! It can crouch into a ball! Featurette on DVD goes into full details about the creature I did several searches for this tidbit and found nothing so if it's covered elsewhere I'm sorry for reposting.
I watched the DVD last night. Blockbuster has received the copies though not on the shelves yet. Watched all featurettes, extra footage, easter eggs, etc. One featurette in particular is the one I think everyone will be talking about the most, "I Saw It! It's Alive! It's Huge".
BIG GAIN FOR ME:
Facts: In the featurette, they go into all the details of the design, creation, and background the creative team wanted to incorporate into the creature. At the begining several CG renders of the creature are shown. The big one to look at is the one where it is crouched into like a ball.
Theory: Is it possible that the creature and not a satellite tumbled in from outer space and is actually what hits the water in the coney island/ferris wheel video? I know this flies into complete conflict with the information that the satellite is what tumbled into the ocean in that scene, so this is complete conjecture at this point. But it could explain that the "rogue piece" Taraguato describes is actually the creature that they are covering up. Look at the render in the featurette, its too coincidental that the creature's arms are completely wrapped around itself and seems to be the perfect shape for rolling/tumbling. The arms are double-jointed and has always been a sticking point with me.
Facts: Another big confirmation is that about 3/4 of the way through Neville Page clarifies he's a baby and his screams/ "shroar" are actually out of fear, not out of anger. He is not attacking, but rather reacting in fright. A 30 foot baby monster?
Theory: This would explain some theories out there on why he's not so coordinated (http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=24932) and why he tore the Statue of Liberty's head off. Maybe she did look like another monster? The question is, how was he created or those parasites. Genetic creation? prehistoric? Alien? Still all left unanswered after watching everything on the DVD.
Fact: I loved where they talk about how they came about making the creatures eyes. They are black and lifeless like a shark. Staring into oblivian has never been scarier.
My own thoughts...
I'm also wondering if the "parasites" were not actually attacking him so that he was actually already in a moster vs. monster battle when he arrived to Manhattan. Perhaps we humies were just "caught in the middle" (Rob's comment under the bridge) of an epic battle between our Godzilla and this parasitic horde of little guys. AND MAYBE, by bombing his back we actually did him a favor by ridding him of the last parasites left on his back.

Very Interesting Really well thought out ideas. Unfortunately, the only thing I could think while reading your post was "Damn, I should have gotten a job at Blockbuster!". I haven't seen pictures of the monster in a ball-like position. This obviously wasn't displayed in the movie.
I don't know why it has to be the monster that fell from the sky. The ball formation doesn't really give weight to this idea either. I believe it was confirmed to be the satellite, but I cant back that up. The parasite vs clover concept is interesting, yet I feel like we'd see clover rubbing his back on buildings or at least swatting the parasites a bit more. I would need to see a real physical struggle to believe that.
Good Post Dude...

No. I think they suggest they the monster was newly hatched, so it was curled up like that in it's egg.

I don't think Clover was battling the parasites. Just like whales have barnacles, he probably didn't even know they were there. They certainly wouldn't even hurt him, considering he was immune to rocket attack and bombs.

I didn't know about it hatching from an egg. This could explain the shape very well. What I saw was definitely not in the movie.
Working at BB iz teh suc.
The MGP vs. parasites is my newest, coolest, and uuberist idea so I'm sticking to it, heehee. The way our hero was swatting around as he plowed through Manhattan, and was crashing into buildings leads me to keep this idea alive. Thanks all for your immediate feedback. I'll be playing with the DVD again tonight (don't have to give it back until Fri.) so let me know if you want anymore info!

Problem with MGP being the Coney Island Splash is him inexplicably going all the way to Chuai to tear it down, then coming back. Doesn't make much sense. I think the splashdown was just to hint towards the references to the satellite stories from Tagruato.

OK, here is the exact quote from Neville Page: "It is an infant, it's newly hatched, newly born"
And the screen shot of the monster curled up:

I think this is how he hibernates or sleeps on the bottom of the ocean... He folds up... Remember the Sonair image... This was what it was... Until MGP woke up...

Oh, how fascinating! I am so excited for this DVD. =D I like to draw monsters and think of, like, how muscle structure and skeleton work and move, so things like this are really cool to me. That's neat how it's secondary finger is curled around it's arm, and how the tail is folded (so cute, even though it's a giant monster!). The tail, it's thick, then tapers to the end. I thought everyone said it had a shark-like tail? Anyway. I wonder if the toy version will be articulated enough to go into "ball" form? o_o?

Ok, the one thing I have to say, for now, is...his hands are f'ing huge! Seeing them up to his body like that really emphasizes the point. I wish I had his hands...I'd go around waving at everybody (and, I mean EVERYBODY).
