[QUESTION] Melissa is ... intercepting?

From http://ilovebees.com/about.html:

Quote:

Inbound:
The voices are of unknown origin
New voices are intercepted weekly.
I will continue my analysis and attempt to influence the source

(emphasis added)

Intercepting?? Didn't we assume she was merely retrieving them?

New voices = us, the 'crew' answering the phones.

She's calling us, and intercepting our voices.

It's been a week since the orginal axons went hot. I think it's safe to assume that there'll be a new set of axons next week.

Ah, right right. We're the inbound, she's the outbound.

It seems so very active. Wonder if the interactions will change.

[META] Building a Voice

I couldn't help but think that she's making us say specific words.

I'm sure it's not a new thought, but I wonder if they're getting recorded and will be spliced together at some point. Maybe, maybe not... it would be a cool angle to the AI 'building a voice' concept, wouldn't it?

Creepy. Wierd thought, but what if Melissa is a bridge between the present and future. Could she be both here and now AND there and then? Perhaps we could actually end up communicating with Jersey, Jan, et al? Now THAT would be cool!

I'm not sure this is right. If you look at it from her perspective, she hears these voices and is grabbing them so she can transmit them to us. Wouldn't this grabbing be her 'intercepting'?

Also, note that her number of recipients has moved up from 2 to 3, the third most likely being us, the crew.

She seems to be analyzing the 'voices' (the .wavs) and wants to "influence the source", which I can only guess means she's figuring out where these voices are coming from and is trying to control it somehow...

I guess I can see your point here. While the outbound definitely refers to the calls the AI is placing to the axons, the inbound might not be referring to our response. I guess I automatically associated the inbound with the outbound. Now that you've pointed it out, though, I guess she could be referring to the actual source of the .wav's (how the .wav's are getting to the AI). So, that she intercepts them from somewhere (inbound), then transmits to the crew (outbound). I can see your point there, and it makes sense.

If that's the case, what's the source? The Pious Flea whispering in the Queen's ear? So, she's trying to influence whatever the source of the .wav's is, not trying to influence the crew?

The transmission threshold is just the number of axons that need to be activated in a codeword group before the .wav is released for download. The first set required 2 axons in each group to be successfully completed, the current set requires 3. All three are the crew.

"Successful recipient threshhold" is how many people it takes to make one group go 'hot'. Before we only had to activate 2 per group to make it go hot; now it looks like it's up to three. I wonder what's coming down the pipeline.

edit: beat me to it

Wow. I haven't heard that, and I sure as hell hadn't thought of it.

Double wow. That would be freakin' COOL AS HELL.

Except she's not making us say specific words.
She's making us say either Melissa or Operator.

Really, has anyone actually been asked for a "code"? No heresay, 1st party experiences only.

I agree. At first I thought she wanted to harvest our voices for something... But she's never asked for a password for either of the two axons I've been to...

Sometimes, people said, she aked for the name of the person who answered and they would give the "password" instead... But sometimes not. (This never seemed to make a difference.)

It would have been very cool, and she may yet. But I don't think that's what she's been doing. She has a voice it sounds like, how else would she be calling us?

[spec] just had a thought: the fact that we now need 3 successful recipients, does that mean these are of more importance?
i wouldn't have thought it, but the fact that it's noted on the site, does that mean these are of higher value?
