What about:

0----F
8----R
2----E
2----E
16---M
2----E
7----?
0----F
0----F
5----?
2----E

This is not based on any code or cipher I've worked up. Just observation. What do you think? Dunno

edit: to make more readable

"ame ame ame. i did as you asked me and deleted the emails from the
reception's computer so that nobody knows we meet. i will save some
emails on the palmtop, after removing the headers."

Unknown snuck onto the receptionist's computer and sent emails from the receptionist's email address after removing the headers. The receptionist at whatever clinic Unknown is being held at is Lucrezia Ricci.

I'm not repeating old info am I? Sad

I think the multiple personality thing is pretty much out (IMHO) with this realization...

Unknown is sneaking onto Lucrezia's computer and giving us hints, like posting up pics on Orkut for us of chalets. Lucrezia wouldn't do that, she doesn't like chalets (or mountains or pines...)

I'm still stuck without a password for the pics though.

I don't know. It seems like two distinct events to me: first Unknown sends the emails from receptionist's computer and then, maybe after ame tell her to do that, deletes the email but keeps some of them on her palmtop. Maybe she removed the headers, keeping only the text (we read from MBOX.TXT) to protect ame privacy if anybody will ever get to her palmtop. That's how I intended it, at least.

I still think that Ricci has a split personality.. otherwise, the only way that codes could get into the emails she sends us would be if they could somehow be intercepted and inserted into them somewhere between her and us and that would be very unlikely and almost too much trouble to do considering how complicated it would be to intercept then resend an email unless you have some pretty hefty resources at your disposal. My theory is that Ricci is involved in doing something bad and that her other personality is trying to get us to stop her without alerting Ricci. Perhaps Ricci murdered her parents, and set a fire durring the full moon ? Could she suffer from lycanthrope, or have a personality that suffers moon madness ?
If Ricci didn't have a split personality, how would you explain the codes getting into emails that Ricci had written denying involvement in anything.

Point taken, Blacklight, although I'm still not 100% convinced. Something just doesn't sit right with me about the fact that the email headers are different.

On the other hand, we still don't have enough information to figure out why the rain itself is so important, although the theory you posted is good solid spec based on what limited info we have right now. I don't know how we could tie the two together if Ricci doesn't have some sort of dissociative disorder, so upon review, it's looking more and more like the "split personality" theory is the direction we should be heading, as there has really been no evidence to contradict it.

Rain is important because it washes everything clean. Following, please find my latest e-mail from Lucrezia:

i still have the projects somewhere and i can look for
them if you really want. but i've never been able to
keep anything for more than some months. it seems.. i
don't know. i just loose them and then even forget
about.

my parents and my sister all died when i was a child.
sorry for telling it so rude but you asked. and it was
a long time ago after all. i just don't remember.

i have been in paris, years ago. lived there for a
while. hot croissants and porto wine. running under
the rain at the bois-de-boulogne. and the small attic
were we lived. just a big glass window in the roof and
the rain pouring down at night, lighted by moonbeams.
i was happy there.

i feel in a strange mood today. sorry. maybe it would
be better to stop this conversation. luckily i already
booked a flight for the 13th.

She obviously has memory issues, which can be correlated to blacking out or "losing time," something split personality people have a tendency to do. As you can clearly read in the e-mail response i received this morning, SHE lost her sister and parents a long time ago. She doesn't even remember how.

Unknown could be Lucrezia, it could also be Lucrezia's dead sister. Think back to initial communication between the two in mbox.

bois-de-boulogne means "drinks of boulogne," incase anybody cares. My response is as follows:

Lucrezia,

If you feel like taking the time to look for those projects, i'd love to see them! But if you're too busy or just don't feel like it, i understand. Why haven't you been able to keep anything for more than a few months?? I lose track of a lot of things i have as well.

I'm sorry to hear about your family. I've never lost a family member, so i don't think any words of comfort or solace would be much help. But then again, you say it was a long time ago and you don't remember, so i doubt it would do much good anyway.

You lived in a small attic? With your family? That sounds kind of cramped! I live in a small one bedroom apartment, but it's more than enough room for my girlfriend and myself. The big glass window as the roof sounds nice though. I'll bet you could see all the stars and everything.

Why is it lucky you already booked your flight for the 13th?

At any rate, i have to get going. We lost our electricity because of Hurricane Frances and all of our food has gone bad. It rained and rained and rained for three days straight. Today is kind of sunny, which is nice, but i would rather have the rain. It is soothing to me.

Cyfre, did you send an email asking her this information? Do you have the email? If it's already been posted, trout me, but I can' find it.

Or did she just offer all of this up to you as if you had asked her...?

The initial e-mail asking about her family is as follows:

small parish church in Florida? Very nice! Is there anywhere on the web i can view an image of it or something? Maybe i live near it. So you travel around quite a bit for your work. That sounds like a dream job to me. Ever been to Paris? I have a friend who lives outside of Paris, my old roomate in New York. As for me, I am an aspiring screen writer. I haven't sold any scripts yet, but that's MY dream job. To pay the bills i work as a waiter at a nice Italian restaurant here. My family lives up north in Wisconsin, so i don't get to see them very much. Do you have any family?

Things I just thought of

First-time reader, first-time poster (though I -have- been keeping up with the ilovebees discussion, and wondering about thisisnotporn, if you're looking into that). Anyway, as the subject says, I just thought of a few interesting points, or rather one possibly interesting point and one language correction:

a)fog: In your first post on page 8 (third post in), you finished with "That's how I intended it, at least.". Intended implies that you wrote the file we're discussing, and wanted us to see it the way you mentioned. Is this the case, or is it just poor english (the word you were looking for, if the latter is the case, would be "interpreted")?

b)cyfre: Bois-de bolougne or whatever it was actually means "woods of bolougne". Bois is french for woods, such as, in Canadian history, the Coureurs-de-bois, the 'runners of the woods'.

Ops! You got me. Smile No, I am joking. It was a mistake: there are some words that are similar but have very different meaning in italian and english and when I write too fast sometimes one of those just slip in. (A classical example is "eventually" and "eventualmente" meaning two very different things.)

But I know what the Bois-de-Boulogne are: a specific location in Paris; one of the biggest parks there.

My bois-de-bolougne comment was directed at cyfre, who mistranslated as "drinks of bolougne", although technically I can see why one would think such, since 'boire' is 'to drink' in French.

Thanks, Omega. I took German in high school instead of French, and used an online translator. Damned things!

At any rate, maybe Lucrezia is dropping some kind of a hint to our next little puzzle. Running under the rain in the woods of boulogne, which is a park in Paris?

[spec] Missing letters a clue?

Hello All,

Been following this thread for a few days now, being new to the forum and ARGS in general. Something strikes me as puzzle-ish in the mbox.txt contents. Specifically several words are missing one letter, all from Unknown's lowercase.

Here's the misspelled words in order of appearance:
remeber (missing 5th letter m), tha (missing t 4th letter t), medcine (missing 4th letter i), rin (missing 2nd letter a)

MBOX.1 also had the word ned (missing 2nd or 3rd letter e)

giving: m,t,i,a,e

I've tried a few anagrams of the above on geocities - with no success.

thoughts?

Wait, small parish church in Florida? Am I missing something? Have there been other correspondance with Lucrezia?
