[SPEC][INFO] This seems to definitely tie Kamal to the Spartan program (which might be why Durga is so interested in him).
From http://halosm.bungie.org/story/spartan.html:
Quote:
A total of 75 children, approximately age six and selected for their specific genetic dispositions (that is, being as close to perfect as science could determine), were "recruited". They were replaced with congenitally defective flash-clones to cover the enlistment,
Seems that Kamal's little sister was a SPARTAN. Gives a good idea of the time-line for the story.

If Kamal's sister was a SPARTAN-II, Kamal wouldn't know it. His sister would have been kidnapped and her flash clone dead before they saw anything different. These "tweaked" ones are ... something different. The S-III camp seems to be leaning towards being correct.

Do we really have to spec that every single person mentioned who is smarter or stronger than anyone else is a SPARTAN? I mean, I think we've spec'ed that everyone and their dog in this story is a SPARTAN, honestly.

could they notice how special she was? these were flash clones....could her clone could be special too to an extent and then after a while the birth defect kicks in to "kill them off"?

He didn't know it. But those that were picked for the SPARTAN-II program were already the cream of the crop on their own:

Today's wavs

Okay, four transcripts est ici, courtesy of Albuquerque and the Phantom Beekeepers:

Taxes_suck.wav
Durga: So why did the IRS want to audit you?
Jersey: You did read my mail!
Durga: No, but I'm scanning the rest of the country's mail, and your name came up.
Jersey: Taxes suck.
Durga: So don't pay them.
Jersey: *grunt* And spend a year sharing a cell with some guy named Spider? No thanks!
Durga: You won't go to jail, you have me.
Jersey: Durga?
Durga: Well, instead of owing them money, you could... not... owe them money. Better yet, they could owe you. They could owe you a lot.
Jersey: No! You can't do that.
Durga: I'm pretty sure I can.
Jersey: You're not going to.
Durga: I suspect I will.
Jersey: Durga!
Durga: How much should we start with? How about the gross planetary product of ???? colony?
Jersey: Are you insane?
Durga: You know, I'm not quite sure how we can test that.

Very_Lucky.wav
(paraphrase)
Kamal: (It started when I was four. We were playing dice) I won the first two times we played and then never again.
Sophia: *laughing* You must suck.
Kamal: I'm nearly sure she could throw certain numbers when she wanted to.
Sophia: The dice were loaded.
Kamal: No, that's just how coordinated she was. She could guage the way they came out of her hand. That's what I think.
Sophia: Right... *laughing* Or, maybe you just suck.
Kamal: She loved languages. She taught herself... God, I haven't thought about this in years... She'd make Dad read (a) bed time story every night and then she would pretend to go to sleep listening to a chatter channel hot wired to some other language.
Sophia: And who'd set up those chatter programs for her?
Kamal: That'd be me.
Sophia: I think your sister was very lucky.

Ground_Light.wav
Kamal: You want to come inside? Just for a minute.
Sophia: Kamal... You know that wouldn't be right.
Kamal: Yeah.
Sophia: You're a good friend, Kamal. I really treasure that.
Kamal: Well... (No?) stars tonight. If it wasn't raining, we might even be able to see our own sun. Although there's probably too much ground light.
Sophia: There's always too much ground light.
Kamal: Good night. *whisper* Sophia.

So if Jan and Kamal are siblings, that would tie those storylines together and could be the reason Durga is interested in both of them...

Hmmm ... OK possibly. Although we can't be sure of what kind of genetic dispositions we're talking about there. S-II abilities generally come from the modifications, not necessarily natural talent - but I can see the spec.

It's problematic for the timeline though. Unless there's new S-II recruitment taking place, which doesn't really fit what we know of the Haloverse story, it would be taking place before the Covie war ... which doesn't fit the Grumpy Old Man timeline.

skin

"Skin" is a conversation between two people, one of whom is a man that I don't think we have met before. The other sounds like Jan James to me. Unfortunately, the background noise in this clip is quite loud, so it was hard to make out, even with three repeats.

Based on the context, it sounds as if Jan wants something from the unidentified male, or possibly from someone he knows. From what I could make out, he challenges Jan to some sort of contest, game, or bet. If she wins, she gets what she wants, which sounds like skin(?); if she loses, the man -- who sounds like a real creep -- says, "I get your skin."

Jan responds that she is underage, so that offer is illegal. (Three guesses as to what "skin" means in this context. :shudder: ) The man replies that he'll have to think of a "babysitting" job for her instead, then. It sounds as if Jan is getting into something unpleasant.

Who's talking with Janissary in Retirement? Any guesses? It's not J^2, I just compared it with law_abiding in the links.html axon set, and the voices don't match.

{Edit} OK, so I guess it comes before or after 'skin.wav' It sounds like a creepy male of some kind.

[OT] I like the background misic... wonder if bungie would tell me who it is?

ok, so s_typhi

I know the clip hasn't come out yet, but I thought I'd post the meaning of the title anyway.

s.typhi - Salmonella choleraesuis serotype typhi
OR
s.typhi - Salmonella enterica serotype typhi

Host range: Humans
Incubation period: Depends on size of infecting dose; usually 1-3 weeks

That's all the relevant information I could find on the subject. When the clip is released, I suspect we'll find out more.

s_typhi remembred transcript (I'm doing this from notes, so it won't be a quoted breakdown.)

Quote:
This is a Kamal/Hiro story:

Kamal starts off with saying that he made some substitutions.
Sophi talks about what Kamal is making
Kamal indicates that it's not going to get brown in the microwave
and Sophi agrees that it [sounds like chicken] needs to be microwaved longer
Hiro pipes up that they don't have a stove, only a microwave and that somenla bactrium is misunderstood [?]
Kamal asks Hiro if he isn't late for some appointment [hinting that he should leave.]

It sounds like Kamal is fixing food for Sophi at Kamal's/Hiro's house and Hiro is making Kamal embarressed about what they're cooking.

surgeon_general is online and available for download thanks to the great work of team surgeon_general!

Synopsis: Kamal is cooking chicken in his apartment when Sophia drops by. She asks about the smell ("Why does it smell funny in here?") and Heero Yuki, Kamal's roommate jumps onto the scene with a witty pun about science. Kamal drops a couple hints about Heero leaving soon, like now, and Heero introduces himself to the Sophia. In his words, "Hey, I'm like the Surgeon General, man! She should be warned!"

Wow. Hiro is a tool. Not only does he seem to actively CB Kamal, his inability to pick up on certain cues in the past makes you wonder how Kamal deals...

I'm interested in seeing what else the Sophia/Kamal storyline has for us, other than making us cheer for Sophie and Kamal to get together. Entirely valid, but I doubt that's really the crux of the plot there.

I'm guessing Aiden's continuing to try to use her to draw Kamal back into the honeypot.

To echo Atrophied's comment above... there is another thread for discussing this stuff, let's keep it together.
