I got one, too:

Hi Tom,
okay, this is excellent advice.
it is also scary advice.
no one has ever told me I was in "grave danger" before.
I guess I am already doing a bad job of following your advice because
I am writing you back from this address.
I do want to get out of town, but if I can't use my air pass, it's
barter time... I know I could ask my mom to wire some cash, but I'm a
little nervous about setting up a transaction that might somehow make
her more known to the Operator. she probably wouldn't look kindly on
those aiding and abedding the assassin...
the fewer known enemies, the better.
scrambling...

Just so you know, you've probably been identified.

:innocent: I also in the past sent her the names of the last round's crewmembers too Twisted Evil, so you've been identified too (although not as much fun since your names were on the darn website) Very Happy

She does say "Key" communication channels...

So it's possible that she's trying to Psyc us out.

Though I do think those very short emails are from Melissa.

I hate to say it, but perhaps the only way to communicate with her now is by posting on her blog?

I sent Dana the relevant bit of Zudini's transcript with Melissa. Here is her reply, verbatim:

okay, that's a little scary.
somehow I need to scrap together resources to get out of town... I
have my airpass, but people are telling me not to fly.
may have to start bartering...
thanks for the head's up, Marie.
more when it's a safe.

She sent one to me too. Strangely, she told me what city she was going to. This seems like a deliberate test--either Dana is trying to put me on the wrong track, or Melissa is trying to see if I'm loyal, or the PMs are trying to see if I'll give her up, or something. The email is below, but I removed the city name.

Did anyone else get an email with a city name?

Yeah, and so much as Dana's our first alliance, I think I owe her that much. Besides, I'm not convinced of Dana's guilt, and that means we have to buy her time to mitigate the response from Melissa.

I say then give the info to Melissa.

If it's Dana putting you on the wrong track, then you've done nothing to harm her, in fact, you'd be helping her.

If it's Melissa testing your loyalty, then you'll prove it to her by telling her.

If it's the PMs deliberately trying to get you to give away Dana's location, then I would suggest you continue to play the game and do as they want you to do. All of the "unexpected twists" have turned out very well so far, why shouldn't this one?

As for how to give the info to Melissa, well, this:
Melissa 404 wrote:

Seems to indicate that Melissa can now read Dana's email.
Otherwise, try to get another live call. Or maybe us "trusted" crewmembers will get direct live calls next Tues. Who knows.

I'll remind you about the mirror that was thrown in when Melissa was warned about the Sleeping Princess trying to escape: it didn't give us anything new/interesting/whatever, it just made our job a little bit harder. Next time it may be more than just a little bit. And by the way, did you have the opportunity to talk to the SP while she was having that little nightmare? Having a little six-year old girl talk to you about tin teeth and paper-clip ears and broken ladies and being lost...well, maybe I get too much into it, but I don't ever want that to happen to her again.

Speaking as someone who's played his share of RPG's, DM's love it when you start doing the kind of meta-thinking that says "hey, let's do something we know is wrong/against the story/whatever because it'll help advance the plot". It gives them the opportunity to really screw you over as a lesson to never, ever do that again. (Granted, most RPG's aren't marketing campaigns, so maybe the PM's are more disinclined to do that kind of thing. Still.)

So let's take a lot of things into consideration when we're deciding what to do -- where our true loyalties lie, what our ultimate purpose is, all that -- but please, let's not do something just because we think the PM's might use it to advance the plot. That's just begging for disaster...and it's not playing the game. It's manipulating it.

Play on.

Edit: And it really sucked for me to have to read this in one of the embedded jpeg's:

Re: [INTERACTION] Response from Dana

For the sake of completeness, here's mine:

I wrote:

Subject: Re: success
To: danatwingSPLATgmail.com

Dear Dana:

Thanks for the happy messages. You know, that's the same feeling I had when I saw the Princess back on the site's contactme.html page: indescribable relief, for an artificial intelligence I don't even know. And yes, so happy that the Princess allowed the Clockwork Rat -- us, perhaps? -- to redeem himself in the new ending to her story. It's funny how attached one can become to these entities: when good things happen, I am inordinately pleased; when they feel lonely and scared, I am saddened; and when I can actually help them, I feel as if the effects of gravity are somewhat diminished.

In a way, they're not unlike you in that regard. We've never met, and probably never will, but I am somehow comforted by the thought that we're doing you some good. (And I also can't help feeling guilty that we're monopolizing what should be the trip of a lifetime for you!)

Now, about this ATM card snafu. It's worrisome. I suspect that you've already heard this from plenty of people -- including me, last week -- but let me add my voice to the throng. Melissa is still after you. You may not be safe, even halfway around the world, if she can manipulate through the Internet. And someone apparently told Melissa that you were in Japan. It could just be a coincidence that your ATM card began misbehaving within hours of that, but I wouldn't feel comfortable counting on it.

I wish I had some specific advice for you, but I don't see how I can reasonably tell you to stay away from everything computerized. (At least Melissa doesn't seem to have figured out e-mail or weblogs yet, so hopefully you can stay in touch.) Just this, which is roughly the same thing I told the Sleeping Princess just before we found out she was captured -- oh, now there's a comforting thought! -- Be careful. Please. And, most especially, be careful whom you trust.

(Yeah, yeah, that includes me. There's no reason it shouldn't. You don't know me. All you know is that I like Pippin. Still, as Berthe said, "There's one thing to be sure of, mate: There's nothing to be sure of.")
