Subject: Message Undelivered: Project Syzygy Completed

Hello,

This is the mailer daemon at incoming.sandbox.academy. I'm sorry, but I have
been unable to deliver your message (subject: Project Syzygy Completed) for the
last 24 hours. I shall keep trying every hour for the next 7 days. If you don't
hear from me again, you may assume your message has been delivered.

The reason why your message hasn't been delivered so far is that data integrity
transport checksums have failed on all transport attempts. Preliminary diagnostic
information available to me indicates that there has been a failure in Sandbox
Mail Transport Daemon (daemon subprocess 3ea5).

Should you wish further information on this error, please access your designated
support resource. Unfortunately, the security context for this instance dictates
I may not disclose your designated support resource.

--- Your original message follows:

Sente,

I am pleased to inform you that milestone 24 (Project Syzygy) has concluded
successfully. The team over here has now been assembled and you'll get a chance
to speak to everyone over the next week or so. We're all very excited to be
working with the Academy on this.

Yours,

xxxxxxxx (xxxxxxxx)

It's the 16th string of digits in e, so we've skipped one (15) again.

Well, if the data integrity checks are failing, that means PS isn't really complete. My speculation is that PS is to retrieve the cube. I wonder why he would be lying? I also note it is addressed to Sente, and I wonder what milestones 1-23 were. SMTD also seems to be sentient.

Why do you think it means that? Data integrity transport checksums failing is "The reason why your message hasn't been delivered so far" - not the reason that PS isn't completed, I think.

My take on it is that "Somebody" e-mailed Sente to tell him PS is complete (and it really looks like what PS was about is getting people together - whether PMs, BTS, or players: "The team over here has now been assembled and you'll get a chance to speak to everyone over the next week or so."), and that mail didn't get delivered. "Somebody" doesn't seem to be working at the Academy yet (he says "We're all very excited to be working with the Academy on this."), so he probably isn't using the Academy's mailsystem. The e-mail went out on his end, but didn't make it to Sente's inbox ("failure in Sandbox Mail Transport Daemon"). It's possible Sente doesn't even know that Project Syzygy is complete, although I think it's highly unlikely.

For the record, I e-mailed both sente and curious at projectsyzygy.com, and they both came back with the same autoresponses (still indicating "launch" as early 2005 - I was really hoping that part would have changed, but nooooo). I wonder if they'll be changing those, though, because it really doesn't make sense for them to keep saying that the project's launch date is sometime in 2005, when it has completed already Rolling Eyes

I keep thinking that "incoming.sandbox.academy" is some kind of hint at subdomains, but I cannot find anything - nothing at the perplexcity site and nothing that would look like a candidate for www.academy.xxx. Bah.

Oh, I'm stupid. I assumed that data integrity was something made up, but upon googling I found that if data integrity checks fail, then the data has been intercepted mid-route and modified or deleted. Since the daemon received the message, it wasn't been deleted. That would mean that the message has been been tampered with since mailing, meaning something is still off about the message. But then I've completly messed up once, so I could be wrong.

So it may be that someone doesn't want Sente to know that the project is complete. If so, they may have the Cube. Which means that it may be a powerful item.

It's interesting the message...it makes reference to a process id (3ea5).

I was able to telnet into www.perplexcity.com. Most webservers don't have telnet enabled, so maybe that's a clue.

I wonder if there's a uname and password anywhere...

few peeps on IRC were banging heads about the format, its pritty much standard and nothing sticks out as strange... Just the email is very open about stuff that can be found easily

Brand new to this, but after reading over and looking at the pics on indexB, I noticed that no-one mentioned the serial numbers in the bill are 959. I read earlier that some of the numbers missing on the errorlog files were 19, 59, and 109. Don't know if this has any significance. Also I like how Sente's signature on the letter starts in black in and seems to fade to red at the end. Just wanted to say hi.

Doughy

On the bottom right picture of the letter a triangle is formed in the bottom left using the edges of the picture and the edge of the letter the hypotenuse is rotated 109 degress from a vertical line. Now I may be wrong because i just did it quick and dirty, but i thought it strange that it should be rotated at such a weird angle.

If you take the 1 from One Taversen Square, plus the 959 from the bank note serial number then the angle of edge of the letter you get the sequence of missing error logs.

PS I just figured out what the blacked out word is! Rubik's! Wink

Yeah, I just checked out www.prwatch.org, and I can telnet to there too. So it doesn't look like the server is setup that way on purpose.

Sente

Don't know if this is "a trout" or "trout" or "trouting" (newbie here) .. anyway... Sente means "playing first" or "having the initiative". I know it doesn't mean much to the game.. but I though it was interesting. Very Happy

at this point, dont think there is too much trout if at all, since this is new territory for now. At least we dont get a huge horde of fanboys with mythos and trout galore. Then it would get kinda nasty....

noted

as i cant find any good puzzles to solve at the moment Smile
:-

i wonder why sente wrote his original letter and then blacked out a bit of it -- i mean why put it in in the first place if he didnt want us to know the name of the cube?

is there a censor (friend or foe) or is there no logic to it cept the PMs wanting to (which makes it a bit meta for an in game letter)?

I think we'll skip the "trouting" in this game, we'll just gently prod you in a better direction, which is a much nicer way and doesn't have a smiley of its own Smile

We also can't really say what is relevant to the game or not. His name meaning that could means he was the founder of the academy or he performed the first event or made the first discovery that caused the academy to be formed.
