Okay, I know I bought up the thing on suits of cards, but do we really think there's actually anything to it? I think that article is pretty much junk tbh...

Five of Cups in Tarot

Hi all

The five of cups could refer to the tarot as earlier suggested by several people. The cups suit deals with emotions and the five of cups deals with mourning, loss and dissapointment. One person described the card as a person seeing three upset cups and two full cups. This means there is still hope. My text is "Tarot:Plain and Simple" by Anthony Louis. Interestingly enough one peice of advice Mr Louis gives with the five of cups is "You can either focus on the glass being half-empty or half-full." Which makes me think of the half-filled jug, which makes me think of the spider.

Now I'm making impossible connections again *sigh*

Cheers

dthought.

Emotional loss eh? ok, I don't think that's too pertinant here, but it's interesting that if the people of Perplex City are supposed to be logical and not superstitious (remember one of the letters complaining that the Sentinel was the only paper to still run a Futures section), why do they still have bars named after tarot cards and cults surrounding museum pieces?

I've been puzzling over that one too (sorry, I know I'm not combining my posts..). On the one hand, this is a very "hard science"-oriented world. On the other hand, we have the futures, Recon 8/orthodox Cubism, significance of vernal equinox, Alice in Wonderland, tarot, alchemy everywhere....I'd say it was an odd dichotomy except that I think it makes sense in the emphasis on the limits/exploration of the mind/mental abilities.

Anyway, I'll save more spec on this for a different thread, but I thought it curious. (yes, and curiouser.)

A good Tarot Deck Description

http://www.byzant.com/tarot/structureminor.asp
http://www.byzant.com/tarot/structuremajor.asp

Basicly the "Playing Cards" we use today come from the Minor Arcana which has 4 suits of 14 cards or 56 cards however for some reason the Knight was dropped from each suit to give us the 52 card decks we are used to and 2 of the Fool card of the Major Arcana were add as the Jokers... the suits have also been changed from Wands, Cups, Swords, And Coins to various other suits,

is a good refrence, the most common in the US and i belive the UK are the Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds, And Spades...

but i digress i think this article is telling those of us/you (crosses fingers) that don't get a parcel to not be dishearted the way to continue with the game will come soon and we will all move on. Cool

Well, by inside information of sorts we know the game is going to start proper "soon", so I'm guessing these packages are going to be a catalyst? At least by "final stage" they didn't mean the game is almost over Smile

(sigh - could a moderator delete my guest post please? Didn't know we could leave posts without logging in)

I don't think this article is junk. It's a murder in this world, reported on the paper. There are going to be suspects. One or several of those suspects could turn out to be any of the current characters we know about. There are plenty of opportunities with this.

What if Scarlett was there last night? What if she has friends that were there? What is Sente was there? If murder hasn't happened in awhile, it could get blamed on the loss of the cube.

I'd love to see a blog entry from Scarlett talking about the murder. I sent her an email last night asking if she knew anyone at the bar or if she was there herself. Haven't received a response yet.

they may be named after the old names for playing cards, not tarot cards, or maybe PPC went with the cups, swords etc style cards when we went with hearts, diamonds etc.... another example of how things are almost the same, but not quite in PPC, as if they forked off from our way of life at some point.

But the bar could just be named that anyway- In the UK we have pubs called things like "The Green Man" even though we know Green Men don't exist.
