112798.jpg Summarised!

Hi All,

The now almost 20 page thread on this is getting a bit much and half of it's repetition because people aren't reading through, so here's a summary, let's all come to it fresh and see what we get today...

So, a new challenge was posted pointing here;
http://www.ourcolony.net/images/gamem8ker/112798.jpg (the link was just "112798.jpg")
Someone formed a barcode out of the white dashes, which gave us a phone number. When called a message said "reset reality, message five one two". Several people left messages but got nothing back.
So the answer was "reset reality"; Microsofts new catchphrase for the Xbox2.

Gamem8ker then said we'd solved it, but asked if we had "seen everything".
There have been no puzzles since so we probably have to see something to continue the game; the something may well be a web address, or part of one, or something.

There are many theories, here are the main ones;

In the background of the image is a web address AACI.org, it appears unrelated, however AACI was set up on 11/27/73, 25 years before the filename 11/27/98, so the number 25 may be relevant.

The numbers 0 and 4 on the circuit board may be relevant

The position of the fans may be relevant (many claim they point to 5 and 12 as a clock would, echoing "message 512", the rumoured 512 RAM xbox2 will have, or the MTV information release which will be on 5/12/05).

"Message 512" may have further relevance beyond the date and memory size ideas.

There appears to be nothing else to the white dashes but someone questioned why they only cover about one third of the shot.

We have also yet to identify what this machine is, I heard it's an Intel board, and a Google shows that these dual fan set ups are available either as fans or as a slot in thing, some have said it may be an early xbox2 prototype.

Gamem8ker could also refer to us seeing something else; maybe the orb/blob/bubble pictures on the front page which no one has managed to "decode" as yet.

And don't forget the numbers hidden/involved in the secrets; 1, 1, 3, 1391, etc.

Has anyone "de-stegged" the image or anything (I have no idea what this is sorry to be a "noob" but I understand it can reveal stuff).

I think that's the key points, please PM me with anything I missed so I can edit (maybe a mod can lock the other thread?).

nice work mr films

on looking at the lightened image (but is also visible on the original), i'm interested in thew entire orange back section. the slip with the AACI mention on it is orange, possibly back-lit, but you can also clearly see orange parts behind the rest of the shot, too.
also, in the middle of the shot at the top, there's a ^ shaped item, which i'm wondering could be another piece of paper or object of interest.

and on the pcb itself, i'm not convinced it's from an everyday desktop pc, due to the notch cut out for those fans. i'm going with something more like a console (not saying new Xbox, just an example), or something along those lines. May be old, may be new (i get the feeling it's older).

i'm not holding this up as anything new or special, but are we certain that it's AACI and not AACL?

i'm gonna assume yes we are, because the capital 'L' would have the _ bit on it, so i'll shut up (but the two sites aren't too dissimilar)

512 in pic

Probably nothing, but thought I'd mention it. I use firefox. Open the link to the pic with FF, then select "View", then "Page Source". Then do a search for "512". It's in there. Maybe just a coincidence, but I thought I'd mention it.

Also, the last line of the barcode looks to be only half there. Is there, perhaps, another part of this image that attaches to it below?

Could it be possible that "Message 512" was actually an instruction?

Wasn't there a phone number in Chicago that was connected to the HumanClock 5:12 pictures?

maybe text message it?

It's also been suggested that the AACI is not just referring to the website www.aaci.org, but could just be there to point us in the direction of the acronym AACI. I've heard possible suggestions, some leading to the altec lansing speakers which happen to spell AACI... etc.

I read somewhere else, it could be one of these "Foam Star Stress Relievers" or something like that..

well i'm assuming that it says the url for a reason too, aaci.org
i'm not sold on the idea of it being an acronym for something else, when we're being pointed to that website. my point is just if we've mis-read it, then it could be pointing to a site we've not checked out (aacl.org). although there doesn't seem to be a lot on that site, despite the occasional similarity to aaci.org

Well, as everyone knows, aaci.org is definitely a legit site. If you go to google and look up sites that link to it (in advanced search), you find slews of other public organizations that are in the same grouping.

Now, as to aacl.org, this is more interesting. Google lists only 1 other site linking to them, a website developer (CLR - Web Solution), which is interesting. True, it is possible that they simply don't have anyone linked to them, but the organization (Alberta Association for Assisted Living) is the kind of program you'd expect to see on local government and social service sites. Hmm...

Edit: With more googling, it does appear that email addresses for the location appear in other sites (of the social services/assisted living type), so perhaps it is also a dead end.

I lightened the picture in Photoshop when gamem8ker first put it up and i noticed the little box like thing in the upper right hand corner with the orange-ish button. has anybody else seen this? (possibly an XBox 2 power button??)

I had wondered about this yesterday. Can we mirror the barcode and flip it, adding to the half-complete end? (I don't know how better to describe it.) Does that accomplish anything?

Nice summary coffefilms, that other thread was getting a little repetetive after about 20 pages. Heres a link to the actual image we are working on incase someone doesn't have it.

http://www.ourcolony.net/images/gamem8ker/112798.jpg

and heres one a brightened up if anyone wanted to look more closely in the darker areas.

I believe thats a black clip with a screw in it. A rusted screw from the looks of it. Probaly part of this things case.

Another point is that the AACI tag says "THANK YOU AACI aaci.org". It's clearer if you invert the colors and flip the picture. I don't think it is of much use, but having everything is always a good thing. In addition, the box about the 0 looks... as if it isn't original. It is much clearer than that around the 4 and isn't at the right angle.

I guess someone already suggested it is the year to attach to May 12th?
