carnage, perhaps? (as in, 'we went to the pub last night for a quick drink and it ended up being total carnage')

[Edit: ok beaten to that one by Paul and RI_Barnica]

there was also a philosopher called Rudolph Carnap - see his wikipedia entry here

Nobody's mentioned it yet but they look like the pleasurecards IMO.

Wrong size and shape, pleasurecards surprisingly tiny, but they may well get them to print them for them...pleasurecards have quite a high output potential which won't be being used by the members yet, as there aren't that many. In which case they would be pleasingly tough and you'd be able to put them through the washing machine without damaging them.

*MikeyJ has experienced this*

It's another Michael Smith project - invitation only card thing. pleasurecard

I can't remember exactly how it was found in the beginning if you search you should be able to find all the stuff. For quite along time there has seemed to be some connection just not sure what. There was actually a card with perplex city on it in their samples.

I wonder if that's actually Violet? Or even their mother?

Yeah, I agree because a) she looks older that Scarlett, and b) the sentence "Between all the distractions and parties of university, I did manage to fit in a few experimental psychological lectures." which reads like she's already finished university.

As for the puzzle, it looks like she's talking about cards on the desk in front of her in the picture (not the 170+ cards firebox are selling). I'd guess there's either 3 or 4. And now begins the solution SPEC:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I suspect that some of the cards have the letter facing up and others have the number. The puzzle is a little simpler than it seems because all it asks you to do is establish that A's have a 2 on the back. It doesn't ask you to check whether 2's have an A on the back, nor what's on the back of K's or 7's as long as it's not an A. In this case, all you need to do is pick up two A's.

However, that's a little too easy, so I'm betting the puzzle works like this:
3 cards - an A, a K and a 2. As I said, the 2 is irrelevant - it could be an A or not and it really doesn't matter. Therefore you pick up the A to check there's a 2 on the back, and the K to check there's anything except an A on the back.

So, do I win a prize for solving a puzzle I can't even see? Very Happy

Hmm random thing, I don't know if anyone's noticed this yet... If you go to www.firebox.com and search for "perplex" or "cube" the result is ""The //\\\\\\ Cube" - "Nihil obstat scientia" - Zeller", and if you click more it brings you here to an unfiction forum...

A couple of notes on the card snippets we can see:
  • The flags are: Wales, Oman, Estonia, Israel, Djibouti, Turkey(?), Ukraine, Spain, Sweden and Greece
  • The 'Illogical' card has the text:
    Quote:
Between all the distractions and parties at university, I did manage to fit in a few experimental psychology lectures. One of the most interesting things I learned was how at heart, people aren't as logical as they think. Try this problem:

Each of these cards has a letter (A or K) on one side and a number (2 or 7) on the reverse. If I told you there was a rule that a card with A on one side will have a 2 on the reverse, which two cards would you turn over to find out if the rule was true?

Now, I know a puzzle similar to this - so I suspect the three cards are an 'A', a '2' and a '7'. The answer is:
    Spoiler (Rollover to View):
    The 'A' and the '7'.

Why? Because turning over the '2' tells you nothing. If it has an 'A' on the other side it provides a little supporting evidence but you could have got that by turning over the 'A'. If it doesn't have an 'A' on the other side - well that proves nothing. 'A's must have '2's on them but not necessarily the other way around.

Turning over the 'A' will provide immediate proof that the rule is false if the other side is not a '2' - and turning over the '7' will provide proof that the rule is false if the other side is an 'A'. Neither of these will prove the rule to be true - but they give you the best chance of finding an exception.

Edit: The above solution is similar to Seej's - except that he's missed that the 'K' can't have an 'A' on the other side as the setup says each card has a letter and a number on it.

Well, that was some good guesswork by me Smile

EDIT: oh yeah, should have been an A, a 2 and a 7. Oh well, my reasoning still worked.

BTW - how desperate for a solve are we? Wink

Hiya Lucia...we noticed this a while back as Firebox has been used before for communication. If you do a search on the forums it keeps the threads a bit less cluttered and easier to follow what's going on Smile check out Nik_Doofs wiki for back story as well (here
