Also, remember that everyone pays tax on their earnings - even if you are earning minimum wage, if you work enough hours, you will pay tax and national insurance.
I must admit - I am a bit peeved about the cards. For someone who is pretty skint - its a bummer.

same here it adds up to about 33% of your income .so much for getting rid of taxes by leaving britton e.g. 1776 plus we pay taxes on everything we buy thats another 6.5% to 9.0% depending on where you live

Dude, you're totally killing my buzz. I'm a colleged student and I can afford a pack of cards a week. Besides, all the cards will eventually be posted online. *sigh*
On a less peevish note, I completely agree with Marduk and have been saying as much. This game IS global. Americans or Canadians or Japanese aren't going to be thrown by the wayside just because the PMs are based in the UK. Beyond even all that, this game is far more rich and deep than just solving puzzles on a stinking card. We still have all the in game sites, three of them are still being updated on a regular basis.
It seems the people who are complaining about it not being global are just the people who are in a twist about the cash prize. And that's just sad.

Don't worry, I wasn't singling you out as someone in a twist about the money. There were many people who started complaining when they found out what this phase of the game was about, some even more vocal than you. *heh* It's all good though, I think everyone is settling down now and starting to remember that there are fun times to be had here. *wooo*
You were still killing my buzz though.
Edit: On a more OT note... 89p? Do people still... you know, drive cars there? I mean, I stopped driving around here, and it's $2.21 a gallon... Besides, a good walk is, uh... good.

I remember the days when it was in the 40p range, and I'm not that old. It's over 70% tax these days. Grr grumble grumble. Then again I don't really care because I can't afford both buying a car and paying insurance at the same time. Woe is me. Then again (again), I also remember when the price of petrol was measured in how much of your neighbours blood you were willing to spill to get it. Every time there's talk of industrial action on the part of anyone in the industry (like recently I think) the news try to whip us into a frenzy again.
Anything else you'd like to compare costs on?

Minimum wage is about to go up to £5.05 ($9.63).
Petrol is pretty expensive (use a bus!)
Healthcare is free, but also available privately.

Which pub? The price of drinks varies so much round me that I really couldn't say. That and I don't drink much beer. And I don't the pubs round me seem to change their beers so frequently that I never remember what they sell. In other words I don't know.
Coincidentally, my dad used to work for Bass Breweries. That I do know.
