Haven't seen anyone mention this yet, and it seemed to somehow hit home. From the Department of Social Sciences Description:
Quote:
The department runs the "Human Enigma" event in March every year; a piece of immersive art in which the entire department collaborates to invent an "alternate world", complete with its own politics, economy, religion and so on. These worlds are made available for the public to explore via the department's distance-learning facilities.
Thoughts?

Let's go and spec: we are one of these worlds aren't we? Heh, I like that one. Kind of makes sense - the PPxians getting pissed off that their cube got "lost" in a work of fiction....

Has anyone noticed that if you go to Students -> Library services, you get a popup window that accepts input (http://www.perplexcityacademy.com/studlibserv.html). Keyword searches are limited to students only, but if you know the "document code" of a given document, anyone can retrieve it. My first thought was that this might be related to the solutions of cards or some other puzzle, but....
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
both of the forms--searching and fetching by document number--are currently hard-coded in JavaScript to always return a failure.

they may think that the cubes function is to obvious to write down...Scarlett often seemed surprised by some of our questions.

Paul, read BriEnigma's post two above yours for that answer. It's spoilerized...

Anyone else think Sente's picture looks a bit sinister as well? The others are a bit more detailed than his to begin with but it doesn't help that his eyes are in shadow as well. Think ill agree that I don't completely trust him at the mo.
Also I don't think they do know much about much the cube since they don't even know what its made out of, or if the inscriptions on it are original.
Alien artefact maybe?

The Treasure Hunt thing sounds a lot like the MIT Mystery Hunt . Any veterans of that here?

I found something interesting, to me at least.
I've not read through the entire site, just browsed mainly and read a couple of articles, but I've noticed a couple of possibly intentional surplus letters:
v - Student Life, 5th paragraph, 1st line, 1st word
o - Perplex City History, 1st paragraph, 3rd line, 7th word.
The o, added before BC, seems out of place but might be explained as a qualifier of BC, though I can't imagine what it would mean.
That's all I've noticed so far. I intend to look through the whole site and see what else there is there.
Yeah I definitely spotted a few of those extra letters. I assumed they were probably typos (what can I say? I'm new to this), but now you mention it I guess it's worth a closer look... I'll go back and try to find them again.
As for the whole Matrix analogy, gotta admit it had crossed my mind too. Time will tell.
I spotted this too and thought there may be a hidden message. However, after checking the source code on one of the pages with a 'v' on it, i'm fairly convinced this is a coding typo. The two instances of 'v' that i've found so far occur at the beginning of a paragraph. In the source code, all paragraphs are started with the standard html tag <P>, however these or other tags missing where a 'v' is present. This will be a coding error, where the programmer was using copy and paste to insert all the tags, but miss hit a couple of times. Where the keys [Ctrl]+V will perform the paste action, if the Ctrl key is missed all you get is a 'v'. I do this all the time so I recognised it almost immediately. Would've been nice to have a hidden puzzle like this, but unfortunately just a weery programmers mistake.

Just to add fuel to the fire, the same 'v' appears on card #041 (Whipsmart Ice) in the sentence:
Quote:
'Bring your completed wordsearch to Whip Smart for your free scoop of ice cream. v'
Hmm...

Just thinking...
Quote:
There are three main routes to apply for a place as a graduate student at the Academy:
The PCAG
The PCAG is a Perplex City tradition; it has been held annually for over two hundred years, and has its roots even further back than that. Entry to the PCAG is open to all and is free. Many of the Academy's brightest and best scholars have entered through this route, and we would encourage anyone to take the preliminary tests.
Quote:
The academic year is structured around the PCAG schedule, with two long vacations, one from 15 December until 1 February, and one from 15 June until 1 August. Many students work part-time, and the schedule of study can be adjusted to accommodate this.
Maybe starting June 15 we will have the oppurtunity to participate in the PCAG and perhaps gain access to the academy??

I rekon it's a similar thing. It's at the end of the line so could easily be some mistyped carriage return tag for whatever graphics/publishing software they are using.
Maybe over the course of time this will actually mean something, but for now i'm sticking to the typo theory.

finally, someone else who sees it the same way I do. For me, the bottom most button on the right hand side for academy missions is missing. All I see is a rectangular box where its supposed to be.

more evidence of keys being like cell phones.
I know what you mean, but it is probably more likely that it is due to the EM field produced by keys. You know, like the way on aeroplanes all laptops, phones, CD players have to be switched off at takeoff and landing because they sometimes interfere with equipment?
