watching paint dry...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

or grass grow...

the answer would be 'hello' (greener pastures easter egg in bottom corner - has been mentioned in another thread.. and yes by watching the grass grow you are indeed doing a word search as the word 'hello' appears as you move your cursor over it - or 'make the grass grow'.

I would say thats a solve?

Good point, I was wondering about the relevance of the grass growing - but that makes perfect sense, as strange as it is to include it in the whipsmart site... OH no of course its not, thats what the wordsearch is on Very Happy

I consider this case closed [SOLVED] . well done all Smile

sorry, now I am confused: I thought the 'dry' bit was in the original decoded message ('it's as interesting as watching this dry') in which case we have to go back to paint, don't we?

What we got from the card: word searches are the puzzle equivalent of watching paint dry

So paint was not a missing word.. there was nothing missing and really no answer.

"Watching paint dry" is an english expression which means something is really boring.. If you don't want to do something, like homework, you would use one of the following expressions:

"I'd rather be watching paint dry"
"I'd rather be watching milk curdle"
"I'd rather be watching grass grow"

The grass one is actually relavent because we can watch grass grow on the Whipsmart site (Which is actually the image the wordsearch sits on).. the grass slowly grows as you watch it spell out "HELLO"

I agree with Ehsan. Taking the letters p,a, and n out would reveal the word "it", which is a simple mistake by the solver, not a big deal. Furthermore, we don't know what relevance the "9 of Diamonds" has to do with the card yet. This card is NOT solved.

Actually I agree with Ehsan.

I think the answer is "Hello"

Watching Paint dry = Watching grass grow.

Watch the grass grow = Hello

Makes use of a web page that is otherwise a very extensive waste of time and money... and completes the solve for the website.

Needed the "Flavours" page for the word list, and need the "Pastures Green" page for the answer to the puzzle. Lots of dead ends, ensures no one will solve immediately (even though Hello was found early on... who would of thought that was the solution?)

My spec on this is that when the rankings / points page goes up we will have a sign in and there will be 255 text boxes we can fill information into (the information will be found by clues in cards and corresponding information on the websites or places). Correct answers will give points to the user who has signed in. I am sure there will be mini prizes for those who hold high rankings and when all the answers are complete they will form the clue to find the cube.

However, this is where it can get nasty. Wiki is obviously going to hold solves to cards when people find them.. which means anyone can come in and gain points to gain rank over other players. So expect a lot of red herrings. People with lower rankings will help out the people with higher rankings.. people with higher rankings will want the people with lower rankings to keep their mouths zipped up.

I wonder how they conduct these things in the Perplex City Academy Games?

True

But you can have both.
The Olympics is a community of atheletes. Split up into countries (I noticed the flags on the rankings pic - so it 'could' be similar to this?). Countries compete peacefully together and within each country you have the atheletes. Still the community spirit is ever present.. however, there are only a percentage of individual's that are awarded the medals. I would spec that the Perplex City Academy Games is akin to our Olympics - where both ranking and community spirit co-exist.

The nine of diamonds might refer to the card deck issued to Iraq War soldiers, Taha Muhyi al-Din Maruf was caught May 01, 2003.

Ok, the grid is 19x19. There are 19 cows on the Whipsmartice site.

In the ROT13 solve there are 52 letters. One-half of the alphabet is 13, and one-half of a deck of cards is 1 alphabet.

There is a 9 of diamonds. Maybe The Hand in the Futures is a poker hand.

Watching paint dry, and watching grass grow, and watching cars rust is all boring and useless. One has better things to do with ones time . . .
