i agree with what GuyP is saying, for all the people who work hard at this and are heavily into ARGs as a whole, there will be a whole lot more people out there who will just search for our solves and use them to get points. however i think that there will be more of an element to this than just solving the puzzles on the cards because of the obvious fact that those kind of people will exist, therefore (hopefully) ensuring that the eventual winner is someone who is actually deserving of it (ie. someone who plays it not just for the money element).

Perfectly articulated, Guy. My thoughts exactly.

Absolutely. And there's times like this when some of us are going to need help. Take the hieroglyphics puzzle for instance. How many of us here could admit to getting that without an extensive course in Egyptology. Me? I looked up the solve after getting stumped, which leaves me in no position now to claim I worked everything out on my own, and I'm sure nearly everybody else is in the same boat as well.

here's what i think we should do, and i think if we're all in agreement we should make a thread where we can all state it for the record...
Whoever finds the cube pockets £50,000.
If someone discovers the location of the cube but can't physically get there then the £50,000 is shared between "locator/s" and "finder/s"
the finder of the cube can decide which other players deserve whatever proprtion of his share for their contributions to the finding of the cube. (so if JebJoya discovers where the cube is because of a solve made by POTUS, Jeb can give POTUS a share of his £50,000 at his own discretion.
the remaining £50,000 goes towards a massive unfiction party with free drinks etc. i'm afraid to suggest that this party be held in the UK as the game's based here! so instead i'll suggest that we could split the pot and have 2 or three simultaneous parties around the world.
I think this is really the only practical solution; it means there is a clear winner, but those who contribute more win something too, and we all get a nice treat for helping it all along. Imagine what sort of a party £50,000 will buy!
I christen this idea "doepfiend's charter"
who's with me?
Lol, thanks for using me as an example, I really feel part of the community now
/me blushes
Anyway, I feel personally that the person that wins should be able to do whatever they feel with the money, i'm personally on dopefiend's charter, maybe with some going to charity as well, but it is up to other people what they would decide to do if they won anything.
So, yeah, it's a free country, take your pick
Jeb

Yes. As i said in irc, if i win (which i won't) I am using every penny of that prize as seed money for a new ARG.

I think that even if I had an infinite number of monkeys I would not be able to solve all of the puzzles in this game without the help of others. Even if they were planet of the apes type monkeys - but I extrapolate . . .
Everything is relative.
A picture posted by Salkunh shows evidence of a Ranking System that may come about later and be available at the PC site. How we are classed; by country, or arbitrary agreements, may not matter as much as our individual opportunities to manipulate the puzzle pieces themselves. I'm pretty sure I don't have a constellation of Phd's hanging on my wall . . . so I'll be hoping to acquire information by any legal means that I can assemble.
If we form teams - we will compete just as Machiavellian~istically against one another as we would individually. I suspect the PC Academy has it rather well setup though, and there will likely be many opportunities for all persons interested to acquire all the cards. In fact, the Academy has numerous Departments with Chairs and Fellows and Grad students - we will likely see some extraordinary talents in this game.
I'm fairly certain I will be in the middle of the pack, but I'll have lots of fun learning to specialize in various areas. Heck, it looks like we have a simulated Perplex City interactive map just waiting for us to navigate and visit - this thing is HUGMONGOUSOIDAL! I think it will be a while before we make these decisions.
Long day - long post Here's looking to Saturday's for a parcel!

Whilst I agree that the introduction of a large cash prize may lead to a moral dilemma for some people as to whether knowledge should be pooled for the good of the team or kept to themselves for more chance of financial reward. There seems to be elements that also encourage collective play. In particular it would appear that the number = letter code can only be solved by sharing what information we do have.
I personally am happy to share whatever information I gain!

If the dopefiend charter includes a little money for Bono and his debt-relief & third-world improvements, maybe U2 would play at an ARG party? Which in turn could be harnessed to raise yet more cash . . .
Change the world!
