Yay, first registered post... Anyway, I kind of agree with dopefiends charter, but last night after I'd gone to bed, I was thinking about the idea of the winner donating it to charity, maybe keeping £10,000 or something, and donating £9,000. I just know though, that what with uni coming up in a couple more years, I'd be VERY tempted to keep it... But on the whole, the dopefiend charter sounds like the best to me...
EDIT: I mean £90,000... -_-'

.. tbh I don't agree as many people have got plans already of what they would do with the money, and I would rather keep the money anyway.

suggestion on what to do if Unfiction wins

MarcB wrote:
Okay here's the rub...
We all work together - great, I'm all for it, it's save us all a lot of money and be a hell of a lot more fun. This also means that it's highly likely that one of us will win a huge sum of money.

Here's a suggestion:

We've (well mostly me it seems Embarassed ) have talked about the expense of creating an ARG with high production values like we are seeing in PPC.

I suggest that if the Unfiction team wins, we set up a trust fund with the money, create a group of proposal reviewers, and invest the cash in one or more new ARGs. Perhaps with some caveat that some fraction of the proceeds from any of the ARGs so funded would be returned to the trust fund to seed additional future efforts. I.e. set it up like an arts grant. Rolorbe - not a bad idea, but should the full £100,000 go into that? maybe £20k shared between winner + helpers, £30k to the partay (okay, I really like the idea of a massive party Very Happy) and then £50k into a trust fund.

The trust fund would require a board to decide who should have the money though, perhaps shortlisting by a group of 5, then a poll on the boards? Just an idea Smile

(Now, let's stop with all this talk, we've only just started the bloody game!)

I dunno, I think a poll about who should get it could cause some bitterness in the people who weren't picked...

Billion-to-one chance I'd win, but if I did, I'd pay back my boss for the lost hours/days/months.
I'd have to hire the services of a top psychiatrist for my sons who'd have suffered months of neglect. My wife would have run off with the milkman, so the rest of the cash would go on "escorts" - but it would have been worth it ...

WHEN i win i'm going to keep it all to myself and, well.... hide from the furious arg community Very Happy

no, if my opinion was in it, i'd say put it toward one or many arg associations like uf or new args. thats what i'm in it for anyways, might as well get more out of it.

Not for a minute that I believe that will actually happen, human nature being what it is...

i second this if there will be a reward. im broke, but have enough to get by day to day.. obviously since here i am connected to the net, etc... there are needier people out there, and the only reward one needs for solving a puzzle is self-satisfaction.

sidenote, i think that there will be no reward, and that it was shown only to add another dimension to the game, draw parallels to majestic, and lull you all into a false sense of security. again, the game playing you, not the other way around. in this game you NEVER know more than what they want you to know. they are holding all the cards Rolling Eyes Wink

i agree that there won't BE any money. The idea of a reward has been mooted to make things interesting. I think that in the end, we'll find violet's right and sente's a charlatan ...

ARG's normally promote something ... if there is no money, then that'll give whatever was promoted a terrible name

Thoughts on the money

Firstly I think that the prize money will be in Lecks, and will allow us to move forward to the next part of the game, allow entry to competitions, subscription to the Sentinel etc.

Secondly if it is real hard cash, I think that some should go to Unfiction to support the forum that will have after all allowed us to win. Some should go to charity (as I have MS, that would be my preference, I can only imagine the research that might allow), and I don't know about the rest.

I think that it will be possible to both work as a collective and still have our names on the leader board, what are duplicate cards for?? First the forum, and when you get a dup, you can do it as yourself, or let someone else use the code for themselves - which means you get the best of both worlds.

well in the letter on www.perplexcity.com does say the reward is 2,000,000 lecks and then says that that that is roughly equvilent to 100,000 pounds. so technicly they realy have only promised to pay 2,000,000 Lecks and only implyed the exchange rate which ofcourse no financial institute would ever uphold.

in that case, why not say £1mill or £10mill, if they are just making up figures off the top of their heads? Nah, i'm sure they mean real money.

i agree that right now we realy don't have a reason to doubt the reward...

belivablity will keep the number small but 100,000 pounds is easily with in the advertising budget of any sizable company so it is a possablity, and right now i still belive the reward is real...

but as a skeptic i just won't be suprised if they use a loop hole to make the reward vaish at some point... thats all i'm saying
