I have no reason to doubt the prize money isn't real. How many competitions and raffles are running in this world offering similar prizes? - gazillions. If I check my letterbox I see raffles for 3 story waterfront houses which include cars, boats, and gold. If I go to the local shopping centre there is always a guy raffling away a lotus elise or something similar. Walk into a newsagency and you are smothered in competitions.. open the magazines in the newsagency and its the same deal. It wouldn't be the first pc based game to offer a money prize either.. I recall a game you could purchase from the local computer store that had a prize of $1,000,000.

As for the UF team thing. There is going to be a player board with rankings. I guess you could use a UF login for all the players.. it wouldn't work - believe it or not but some people are in it for the money and would do what they can to mess up someone else from achieving it. There is no guarentee that if there was a UF team, all members would play fair.. there is a UK$100,000 incentive telling them to do otherwise. Even if a UF team did win it, the individual that returns the cube gets to decide what to do with the money. Hopefully it falls within the hands of a generous and wise being. I would hate to see this money go into the hand's of someone who goes out and purchases a sports car and crashes it and is burned alive.

I propose that the moneys goes into creating an 'opensource like' company that deliveries a.r.g's. rather than putting the money towards one specific arg.. and even then.. money isn't what makes a good a.r.g great. Or the other option is to donate it towards educating the world. UK$100,000 could buy a lot of text books or provide a lot of courses. Perhap's organise something that benefit's something all of the a.r.g players have in common.. the love of puzzles and wisdom. Obviously the person who returns the cube is going to want a cut.. they will see it as their right and there is nothing to stop them from celebrating the fact they have won UK$100,000. If I return the cube, I would want a nice big piece of the pie - even then I would still use my piece to go towards the same thing.. wisdom (I wouldn't mind a nice library collection of my own =P). I much rather see 1000 people who have expanded their minds and have the ability to create alternative realitys for people and master puzzles - than anotrher guy flaunting another sportscar.

We can do something great with that amount of money. We can put it back into something that already gives us so much - and maybe even mark a historical event in the history of alternative reality gaming. Something we could look back on and go, this is what we contributed to the world of higher gaming.

By the way, my nick has been songofthephoenix through out this game. I had lost the password to my original nick (invfish - obiously). I don't want to delete the username songofthephoenix as I am unsure how that would affect the previous messages I have left in the forum. So I am retiring the nick 'songofthephoenix', rather than deleting it.

I just wanna make a note for myself and Salkunh, if we (by some bizaar chance) win the cash there would be a bit spent on our wedding and then the rest would go on UK pissup (and we would fly people over) and of course investing into ARGs.....

maybe like the Perplex City ARG Investment Fund, i guess the PMs would get a little smile if they knew the money was getting good use out of it Smile

Echoing that last comment by Nik_Doof, should the cube happen to be somewhere in the UK, around the Midlands and I happen, by some fluke, to be able to reach it, then I'll keep some and donate the rest to both / either Unfiction or related Perplex-Con meeting.

I really hope this turns out well, and doesn't end up as a huge twisted mess of hurt people!

Here's my two cents...

1) Keep some to buy new clothes.
2) Use the rest to build a company of ARG-production, thereby furthering this genre...

Given the issues I have raised, it might be good practice for Mind Candy (who are acting as Perplex City's economic agents as well, I assume), to fix a sum for the prize in a local currency, because while Perplex City might be willing to place a fixed value on information about the location of the Cube, other factors as described above could conceivable change the exchange rate substantially (in either direction ... possibly to the great benefit or detriment of their partners, Mind Candy Designs).

Pan-dimensional currency exchange hedge fund! Shocked

i dont really know what i'd spend the money on if i won it, probably pay off my student debts for a start, put some in savings for film school, some more in savings for my wedding. but i wouldn't keep it all to myself cos i know that if for some bizarro reason i did manage to find the cube there is no way i would have managed to do it by myself, so i'd give some to this community.

You'll need the 100,000 the way you're going with that Ebay auction!! Wink

Just to let you know, I would also organise a rather large piss-up as well. The bars here are open (and serving) 'til 3am. Plus there are so many bars that you wouldn't know what to do. (There's 30 within 5 mins walk of each other) You would have to be 19, but I'll fly a good number of people in. (CAD$100-150,000 worth of flights). That should bring ~100 people. The rest would go on the party itself, with any extra going to the Tia Hernlen Fund. I'm not interested in profit, I'm doing this for the fun and community aspect.
