[Puzzle] Cast Adrift Okay, here's the puzzle we found in the lake. Our team was working on this for a good two hours throughout the day. We numbered them randomally 1-9 to make it easier to refer to them.
There's a couple of things to note
1. One of the pieces has left alligned text and looks like it should be in the top-left hand corner, we're not sure about this though.
2. The island can't be 'Weigh' or 'Timer' as these two pieces are identical besides the name (meaning that they ar interchangable) and as the puzzle only asks for one answer, it couldn't possibly be one of these.
3. If you think of a 3*3 grid to put the 9 pieces of map on (and number them through 9 respectively)
as in...
1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9
You can work out (by looking at the number of compass direction and which order they occur in) that the map piece with 'Gilligan's Folly" has to be in space 2. "Black Pearl" has to be in space 4 or 7 and "Cloudmaker" has to be in space 8 or 9.
Hopefully you can understand that, consider the compass directions (for example if it goes S, SE at the start then it has to be in the top row)
Map 1 - Black Pearl - N E S E NW W S, underneath is Gauge Island and next to it, Olive Island.
Map 2 - Right Island
Map 3 - Cloudmaker - NEW E SW N N, Bench Island
Map 4 - Middle right - Never Island, bottom left - Truth Island
Map 5 - Gilligans's Folly - S SE N N S W W and Green Island
Map 6 - Timer Island
Map 7 - The boats weight anchor and move from island to island, but which island do all the boats visit. Power Island
Map 8 - Weigh Island
Map 9 - Level Island
I hope that's not too confusing.

We had a transcription error getting this puzzle onto IRC:
"8 - top row left - 'LEVEL ISLAND'"
Where-as the actual map shows Level Island is Top-RIGHT of its map...
I'm still not convinced it's solveable!

I'm not convinced either.

Don't look at the attached image if you don't want to see the layout and answer!
Since I have some exams coming up soon I thought it'd be best to waste some time doing this puzzle, and I can see how the people on the ground had trouble with it, took ages!
Anywho, the placement of the tiles is below and the only island visited by all ships is:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Gauge Island

Oh God - and we were so close! (Well, it felt like we were really close to working it out...).
Thanks to all who helped out, though - great fun! In hindsight, perhaps we were panicked a bit by the time pressures - seem to remember a lot of shouting?
But here's to the next time!!!

Thank you Rob for scanning the images, I was hoping someone would.
I will post the photos tomorrow - I have been so busy today - sorry.
Great meeting you all and hopefully we will see you all soon.
