[ARG?] Elia Spallanzani

Hi you all.

Just received this strange message. Is it some sort of ARG?

====================
http://valis.it/(((XXXX+YYYY) - ((GG*T)+II) * 14)

XXXX: quando viene pubblicato Promesse mantenute?
YYYY = quando viene messa in atto la sceneggiatura per pendolari?
GG = qual è il gruppo a cui era vicino?
T = quanti sono i paragrafi dell'ipertesto circolare?
II = su quale annata compare l'intervista?

Beninteso che 1=q, ecc.
====================

Thank you in advance
K.

The site is all in italian but seems to be for differnt games in it. The site calles these games "interpretation or narration". From what I can make out the games are like ARG style.

The mail you got transalted says

http://valis.it/(((XXXX+YYYY) - ((GG*T)+II) * 14)

XXXX: when it comes published Promised maintained?
YYYY = when it comes put in action the scenario for pendular?
GG = which is the group to which it was near?
T = how many are the paragraphs of the circular hypertext?
II = on which vintage year appears the interview?

Provided that 1=q, etc.

If interested when i was looking around the site I saw that VALIS was out of a book called fantagnosi written by Philip K. Dick.

So the link goes to a games webpage although i have no idea how your are suppsoe to solve the puzzle and have not the time to look into it much furhter. However if you are hope it helps.

The questions

A quick google gives 1978 as the answer to the first question.

I'm not paying attention to this (just stumbled over the query)
but I doubt it's something you need. Whatever it is,
you seem to need to be able to read Italian fluently to do it.
(Apparently you answer the questions and use the data
to perform the indicated calculation.)
I haven't looked at the site in question.

PUZZLE First hiden website for Spallanzani

Got interested, looked at the various "Elia Spallanzani" sites.

Based on the information there I got
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

1978 1998 63 3 74 (the last is a bit unclear,
see nuovi crocevia for the source)
for the answers to questions and
294 for the number

I did not extract a working directory or html filename from
this and I don't understand why "of course q=1" is
reasonable. Possibly q is a misprint for a, or it is a typewriter
code - but the layout should be the same as in English
and it doesn't decode for me.

There's a link to unforum from the valis site so I suppose
the Italians will show up at some point to discuss this.

Did you take into consideration the difference between a Qwerty and an Azerty keyboard??

Mmh. I think I've misspelled the code (if it's a code).

This time I'll cut'n'paste from the message.

Ciao

Misspelled...

That would make the answer 51982 by my reckoning rather than 294 if the brackets are repositioned there.

Could the q=1 comment mean ROT 16 or ROT 10 (depending on which way up you are) Cool in which case it may be something to do with ROTing the Italian words for the number?

Don't know Italian so it's unlikely that I'd manage that; I'll leave it to the experts. Something like fifty-one thousand nine hundred and eighty-two, five one nine eight two, etc...

I tried "translating" 51982 into letters using q=1, but either way (could be uqyxr or uixr) it's not that unless I've got it wrong somewhere along the line.

I'm here alendial Smile

I've read the post and i've do some search on valis site (never hear it first of now) and spallanzani site.

I've found the numbers, but the problem is "q=1". I'm agreed with the possibility it is a ROT riddle.

I can send a mail at the admin of valis, for understand better his role in this game, if it is a game.

SOLVE: First page

It is a ROT after all and gives a Borges reference.

This is how you do it:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Omit non-Italian letters.

And this is what you get

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

uqbar

INFO That seems to be all

This seems to be a minor literary exercise.

Its (relatively few) pages are unusually well written but it goes nowhere. Furthermore one notices fairly rapidly that the author does not exist (contrary to their expectations, apparently).
For some reason they wanted to attract our attention
to a certain manifesto. But the idea is the usual one.

There is a nice joke concerning FEIC but it would be a nicer
joke if they had not explained it. (The same goes for
the whole manifesto.)

Perhaps there will be something more subtle. At the moment
it seems not. Well, back to the mythosphere.
