[UPDATE] May 9 - Sentinel - Futures

Futures
By Madame Bianca, for the week of May 9
The Spider (April 11 - May 10)
Fashion plate, surely you've heard that tailored looks are the spring thing. Can we ditch the revivalist puffs now? It's not like you to be so behind.

The Wave (May 11 - June 10)
Ambiguity is quite the lifestyle, huh? Let's, just this week during that big date, lay our cards on the table once and for all. See where the ride takes us.

The Archer (June 11 - July 10)
Now that's my wham bam Archer! Take some more names this week during volleyball at the Alchemy Beach season opening on Thursday.

The Half-filled Jug (July 11 - August 10)
The idyllic greener grass you seek is merely simulacrum. It sucks to always get what you want, fickle pickle.

The Dragon (August 11 - September 10)
It's too early in the day for me to deal with you, fire-breath. You need to just stop spewing all over the rest of us. Ugh.

The Three Balls (September 11 - October 10)
Oi. You could use a perk up, and I'm clearly just not getting through to you. I do recommend you hook up with an Archer; the mere wake of the arrow should be enough to pull you upwards.

The Dice (October 11 - November 10)
Prolong this moment of power; the social implications that could result are just dizzying.

The Maze (November 11 - December 10)
Anxiety does not become you. The flattering shade of chill, however, may well suit. I haven't seen you this stressed since your first exams, which, by the way, you so survived.

The Apple-Thief (December 11 - January 10)
Candy is dandy, but liquor works quicker.

The Hand (January 11 - February 10)
Your actions last week infuriated me. Organ donation: consider it. Soon.

The Baby (February 11 - March 10)
Like to be filthy, stinking rich? Yeah, me too. Settle for winning a round's worth of Lecks? Play the mini strips on Saturday.

The Eagle (March 11 - April 10)
Crisis much? It's faith vs. reason right here in the nest, folks. What would Ockham do?

And remember, the only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.

A misquote of Ogden Nash. It should read "liquor is quicker" So "works" is not correct.

Off Topic - One of my favourite poets. Also used in the original "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" by Gene Wilder. I hope the Tim Burton version is just as fun and scary!

Based on the slightly odd use of "oi", I went looking for first initial anagrams

FANCY TOPICAL

and

COPYCAT FINAL

were the best i could manage

(edit: typo. thrice. this is getting silly)

It's the season thing again - tailored looks being in for spring is nice, but retail's in it's Summer season, so if you bought any new fashion now you'd be wearing summer. I think it's just a mistake, maybe the PMs aren't very fashion concious!

Seems like a reference to Ockham's Razor, which essentially states that if there's a simple answer and a more complicated one, chances are the simple one is correct. Incidentally, not a popular point of view with religious and spiritual people *cough* fortune tellers *cough* for fairly obvious reasons.

as i said quite elaborately elsewhere i see no reason for this to be out of character with the standard of reporting for the sentinel. yes, high street chains change their stock every week or so, but in the upper eschelons of fashion, where trends (and decent tailoring for that matter) are made, they still run off the two collections a year spring/summer model.

rach =)

Seems that there's going to be a "big date" this week
Maybe the shops start selling Puzzlecards?
How 'bout laying our Puzzlecards on the table ? Wink

The faith vs reason mention could be a direct reference to another part of Occam's life, where he spent a good deal of time being rude about the pope (he was a Fransican at around the time "The Name of the Rose" was set, which has loads of political background). I don't think that Occam concluded that faith and reason were mutually exclusive though...more that each had their own place (any philosphers out there?...no, not you dopefiend Rolling Eyes those without cannabinoid enhancement:P )

The futures aren't getting any more useful are they? We're missing something...

Yes Mikeyj, we are *definitely* missing something!!!

"Are we missing puzzles here in among the tales of roadworks...?"
"Is it possible some facet ... is a missing piece of the puzzle?"
"Hmmm.. I'd expect I'm missing something obvious"
"Is that not crazy to anyone else? Am I missing something?"
"And, if the PMs were hiding a puzzle in it, and we've been missing it for ages, SURELY they'd have made sure we'd have seen it by now?"
"Maybe the PM's are screaming at us for missing the puzzle right in front of our eyes"
"...or that we are missing out something larger..."
"[SPEC] What are we missing?"
"Just struck me as a bit odd, although maybe i am missing something."
"This all started with syzygy and I think we must be missing a great deal in the astrology/futures."
"...or there is something big and conceptual that we are missing"

no less than 250 matches on "something missing"

you know, there's a really good joke in here somewhere about the cube being missing. Maybe we should change the game's name to "Something's Missing".

I joined this ARG in April, then my comp died, just got it back. I have no idea what is going on. What is the current puzzle this thread refers to?

Thanks,

Parkaboy

Thanks Scott...perhaps "I lost" should be changed to "I'm missing something"

Very Happy

Parkaboy, the puzzle that may or may not be is the futures section of the Sentinel. They are frequent, obscure and perfect for endless nonsense spec!

Maybe there is no deeper puzzle in the Futures. Maybe Madame Bianca is just really nosy and knows what many of the important people in Perplex City are up to.

Each Future could be tailored for someone in PC, and could give us an insight into what is going on in their lives. Some of these figures could just help us flesh out our knowledge of the PC society - whilst others may be linked to the hunt for the cube.

I'll have a look and see if I can try matching up any of them...

Y'know I thought that was how it was spelt but when Google gave me results I just assumed I was wrong. Lesson learnt.

Check The tranZed Primer, The Wiki, The Beginner's Thread, etc. etc. etc.

This thread is about The Futures Column over at The Perplex City Sentinel. Enjoy.
