I am not sure about the rest of the US, but we have those all over Portland , only they are called parking meters (as "parking tickets" are something quite different.) One of these can service an entire block, as opposed to the old mechanical meters that needed to be installed at each parking spot.

just for the record, when these first came online earlier today there were 8 (2 cubed) different images, numbered 0-7
The 7.jpg image has since been renamed 2.jpg and the 2.jpg deleted -- from memory it looked like a reward sticker on a card windscreen - vague background but i thought it was a dirt road and sky...
it also said reward $250,000 usd -- so for now we're assuming it was meant to be 250k AUSD (the aussie exchange rate being about right) and that they removed it cos of the mistake; we may see it return soon...
unfortunately i didn't save the image before it was deleted ;(
...also, the javascript that's displaying them is simple and random, no clues there...

Roflmao Jeb! ahhh. Dthought - I reckon it's to pick up new players from the BBC thingy that happened yesterday (it was being discussed on another thread - people were debating whether to stream it so we could all see Jeb do something tech like forget to turn his speakers on or something...hehee) Y-know, deep voiced trailer voice-over "Imagine a world... that doesn't exsist..." type approach. Think Nike style branding.

The sounds that it makes doesn't make sense. It doesn't feel right.
Caine Johansson of the Cube Retrieval Team is supposed to specialize in "musical number sequences".
Perhaps there is a way of "decoding" the notes into a message?
Can someone with the right tools and knowledge analyze the notes?

Good point - I just think its strange that a splash page would have two links - one to an introductory page (p2) and one direct to the main page.
