[UPDATE] Qurky Acuity - June 9th - Deliquesce

Quote:
Deliquesce
Category: words
Time: 12:59 PM

All this waiting is driving me crazy so, for a minute's distraction, here's a word of the day:

deliquesce: to melt

"'Lyssa!' I cried. 'If you don't take care, your icecream will deliquesce irretrievably.'"

Meaningless drivel post extraordinare?

But FWIW, reference.com's definition:

Quote:

del·i·quesce
intransitive verb del·i·quesced, del·i·quesc·ing, del·i·quesc·es

1 a To melt away.
b To disappear as if by melting.
2 Chemistry. To dissolve and become liquid by absorbing moisture from the air.
3 Botany.
a To branch out into numerous subdivisions that lack a main axis, as the stem of an elm.
b To become fluid or soft on maturing, as certain fungi.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Latin dliquscere : d-, de- + liquscere, to melt, inchoative of liqure, to be liquid.]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
deli·quescence n.
deli·quescent adj.

Well, FWIW:

1. Maybe Violet's worrying about the fact that she might the Recons. might force her to 'disappear' if she's not too careful (though she does seem pretty chipper about things - maybe she's actually revelling in the notion that she and Kurt are gonna make some Recon. treasures 'melt into thin air' any day now).

2. Is it just me, or does everyone seem to be getting obsessed with Whipsmart -y like things all over again? First, Scarlett with 'white fluffy clouds' and now ice cream pooling in the sun - I guess it is Summer in Perplex City, after all, though...(does that suggest that the Perplexian world parallels ours to such an extent that the seasons are the same duration as those on earth, and progress in the same order??!)

3. Lyssa gets another name check - I forget, to be honest, whether we were already aware that she was Violet's pal or not. I think so. I'm a bit hazy on why everyone got excited about Lyssa's involvment in things to start with, but it had something to do with the error logs relating to the Cube theft, didn't it? So, now we may assume that Violet, Lyssa and Kurt all know one another, possibly quite well. At least one of these bunch is a crypotography expert. If the 'Bar None' card is a representation of the Five of Cups (is it?), then we know that Kurt and Violet have hung out once or twice in the (in)famous sorting house for jury - rigged security neutralising devices, and this appears to be further confirmed by comments in Violet's blog. What to make of all that, I'm not sure, although it all seems a *tiny bit* suspicious to me.

On the other hand, maybe Lyssa is a common name in Perplex City, and Violet's just utilising it casually in her description of grammatical application...but I'm more inclined to think that she's drawing on a friend's name, and hypothesising what she might say in the equivalent real - life situation...

And what all that adds up to, who knows?!

If she is referring to Lyssa Ling - then she is a Researcher at the Academy, who loves 'loves Earth style accessories'.

Hmmm...I thought there was more to Lyssa than that, but I'm hazy as to why...

Curious how so many things appear to tail back to the Academy, though: it's where Lyssa and Kurt study, Holyoke's fencing operation was based upon stolen Academy goods. And I've asked the question before: who was bringing in these goods to the Five of Cups in the first place, especially without Academy security noticing? What was going on here?

A bit of siphoning off of Academy wealth to help a few impoverished students with paying their fees? Or some kind of more sophisticated operation?

The fact that Violet and Kurt are so ready to start apprehending Reconstructionist property seems a bit morally suspect as well, while we're at it: sure, we're all suspicious of the Recons., but this is blatant theft, pure and simple. Are Violet and Kurt more skilled at the art than they're letting on??!

I suppose also in answer to my own earlier question (!), I should add that when Violet last mentioned a favourite word, 'velleity', the example of usage it gave referred to Violet herself. This may, therefore, be a degree of circumstantial evidence pointing towards the fact that when Violet is talking about Lyssa, she's referring to the *real* Lyssa Ling. And, furthermore, she'd obviously visualising her as someone she could share an ice - cream with.

Lyssa was also present at the earthworks store opening.

Mostly tho, she is known fFor her presence in the early cache fFiles.

well it's not too surprising she can visualise having icecream with her, she said herself:
Quote:
Still, it's sunny outside now - ooh, maybe meet Lyssa in the park for icecream.

May 17 if your wondering.

That'd be right... Smile

*Sigh* Violet makes it sound like they're all such charming, straightforward people...*I'd* just like to think they're all part of an illegal fencing ring/ underground conspiracy...

On the point of there seeming to be lots of references to whipsmart ice, look at Violet's previous blog entry:

Quote:

An avalanche of suggestions. Thank you.

Italics hers. Does the word avalanche make anyone else think of ice, snow and whipsmart icecream??

Whipsmart Ice stole the Cube and are framing the reconstructionists!
Violet is also involved and is an underground operative used to discover how much we know and her constant icecream references are simple Freudian slips.
No doubt Sente's tip-off was actually from Whipsmart too.
In fact I'd bet that the reconstructionists are trying to return the Cube and know the truth but are being blackmailed not to tell anyone.
Someone had better warn Sente before it's too late. What's his email address?
