Line immediately following plain text, appears to be more. If it is, it translates to 'NAJVE ORT N' I'm not sure what the meaning of this is. Rot13 changes it to 'ANWIR BEG A' still not clear. Backwards the morse comes out to "A TRO EBNA"

As for the rest, my thinking is that when we answer the top 9 lines and plug the answers into the bottom nine lines, the _'d portions will spell out our password.

Top of my file reads:

Quote:
Erdlemann's specialty
Mather's location
Pang's occupation
Enzo's move date
Gough's last sighting
Bigelow's gallery
Renford technique
Novotny current home
Hem's age

Thing is, just try Googling Erdlemann. No results. Suggests Edelmann.

I can't pinpoint any of the answers to any specific individual. There's only one notable Mather (Cotton) I can think of, but a Wikipedia search yields quite a few.

Also, I tried plugging the letters from the questions into the "blanks" and it yielded:

Quote:
r e ,
M h,
a c ,
zo ,
Go,
l w ,
R f ,
v n ,
s e ,

Nothing obvious I can see from that.

I attempted searching for artists or works of art that were associated with the various names - as Gough seemed to point to Van Gough from earlier puzzles and gallery and technique definitely seemed to point in that direction as well.

Using http://www.artcyclopedia.com/ I tried searching the various names for artists, paintings and galleries and drew blanks with most other than
Van Gough
Two Chinese artists named Pang - Pang Tao and Pang Xunqin both of whom have pieces hanging in the Guggenheim in NYC.
and Enzo Cucchi and Italina artists whose work is primarily in the http://www.poggialieforconi.it/index_e.htm Poggiali Forconi modern art gallery in Florence, Italy. Though from his bio I could pick nothing up regarding a significant move of either his work or himself.

Not sure if I'm going in the right direction but I'll keep digging.

I was thinking along the same lines, but then I realised that it's Van Gogh, not Van Gough. Rolling Eyes

Van Gogh's last sighting could potentially be Wheat Field with Crows, his last painting before he committed suicide, but now I'm not so sure that's going in the right direction

Here are various decodes for the morse:

Code:

 NA  IC JVE ORT N
 NA  UR JVE ORT N
 NA  FN JVE ORT N
 NA  ITR JVE ORT N
 NA  UEN JVE ORT N
 NA  UAE JVE ORT N
 NA  FTE JVE ORT N
 NA  ERN JVE ORT N
 NA  ITAE JVE ORT N
 NA  UETE JVE ORT N
 NA  EETR JVE ORT N
 NA  ITETE JVE ORT N
 NA  EETEN JVE ORT N
 NA  EETETE JVE ORT N

Having the J in there makes for some interesting anagrams.
For example, NA UAE JVE ORT N anagrams to "Trojan Avenue" and "NA ITAE JVE ORT N" gives "VENETIA TROJAN"

I don't understand why they wouldn't have the correct spacing for that third word. They've been fairly meticulous about puzzles up to this point. The emails have lots of typos. The puzzles don't.
Also, the spacing would suggest the following:
Quote:
NA(..-.-.)JVE ORT N

Thus, only two double-spaces in the sequence, and single spaces separating each of the within-word letters, counting (..-.-.) as one letter.

How'd you come up with those alternate morse decodes? It already had spaces in there, so I did mine assuming those spaces were character delimineters. I'm not immediately seeing how you could get different characters.

The long string in the middle is not valid as morse code.
Those are the variations if you break the string up into valid morse code.
Your decoder may be just dropping them.

I might've found something. In regards to 'Novotny current home' I found a web site for an artist named 'Sue Novotny' Her website mentions a recent move, putting her current home in Ottawa, Canada. As it happens, 'Ottawa' fits on of the blanks on the bottom.

Ottawa,

Code:

 _  _    ,
_  _,
 _     _ ,
  __   ,
__,
   _ _     ,
_  _  ,
  _  _   ,
    _   _     ,

Now, lacking the 's in 'Novotny current home' is interesting. Maybe it doesn't refer to a person in that case.

"Ort" is german for "place", according to google.

The names of the files in the encrypted zip are:
bigelow.jpg
enzo.jpg
erdlemann.jpg
gough.jpg
mathers.jpg
novotny.jpg
renford.jpg

Those account for 7 of the 9 names in thingstoask.txt I think that we need to be able to look at the images before we'll be able to solve the puzzle.

If I run the morse backwards, I get this:

Code:

A TRO EB! ¶NA

I have the sneaking suspicion that Erdlemann is really Erdelmann, which could lead to a number of things, including Heike Gierhardt-Erdelmann, a singer.

Of course, this is only a sneaking suspicion.

Maybe it's like crossword clues.
e.g.
specialty == bailiwick,
location == area,
etc.
