More about OurColony Clock

So, here's the deal:

Everyone keeps saying that it is for 8:30pm tonight.

However, I am in California... my clock is set correctly... it is 2:11pm, and OurColony clock says 0:03:18... meaning 5:30pm... not 8:30.

On the other hand, XBOX.com still shows 00:07:18:44... meaning 9:30pm... when the show is.

So the question is, where is this 8:30pm time coming from that everyone is talking about? The Ourcolony clock CLEARLY shows 5:30.

I have TiVo, and went online to schedule the taping of my MTV stuff for XBOX. The 5:00 hour is of TRL... so that's not exactly any help (I'm taping it anyway).

Any Ideas? Anyone?

Interesting. I'm in the Central time zone. It's 4:15 here, and the Colony clock says 3:15 for me. That puts it at 7:30PM.

That makes the times make sense though. If the MTV show is 9:30EDT, and the clock counts down to an hour earlier than that, that puts it at 8:30EDT. That's 7:30CDT for me and 5:30PDT for you. These times are all correct.

No, the MTV thing doesn't play until 9:30pm PST... so your assumptions are wrong. (It probably plays at 9:30pm in other timezones too... but I know it doesn't play until 9:30 PST... so that would mean a 4 hour difference)

Why is it so different?

SO here's the deal... whatever is to happen when the clock stops, WON'T have anything to do with MTV!

Why? because our clocks all point to a single specific time that will happen together, REGARDLESS of timezone.

The MTV special plays:

North America
Thursday, May 12, at 9:30 P.M. Eastern (21:30)
8:30 P.M. Central (20:30)
9:30 P.M. Pacific (21:30)

That's not in parallel to each other... it's not synchronized... it's respective to the timezone... therefore those on the eastcoast will see the show 3 hours ahead of me.

What this shows is that the clock isn't counting down to a time 1 hour before the airing of the show...
it's counting down to a specific moment in time, and won't have any bearing on TV at all.

The point I'm trying to make is that the clock stops one hour befor the FIRST airing of the MTV special. What good would it do you if the Colony clock stopped 3 hours earlier for the people on the east coast?

Yes, I believe you are correct. I think many of us were expecting this event to be live originally, so 8:30 EST would have been 5:30 PST. But since it is taped, they are making you wait until 9:30 PST, even though we will already have see it on the east coast. But the clock is counting down to 8:30 pm EST no matter where you are - so whatever happens then, it will happen for us all at the exact same moment.

i think its still a possibility that the clock stops an hour b4 the first airing because thats when the final challenge is posted and we have an hour to solve it.

I get your point, and while I believe that it is deliberately set before the first airing of the show, I was merely pointing out that the clock itself has NOTHING to do with the show.

Nor does it have to do with TV at all. Why? Because TV shows don't air at the same moment in time for all timezones. However, the clock on ourcolony DOES end at the same moment in time for all timezones.

It is merely coincedental (for all intensive purposes) that the show is on the same day at all.

Hmmm.

^^^ That seems plausible. After all, it says

Most likely..

I have a feeling that the Our Colony website will either start redirecting us all to a different website, with details about the next xbox, or the Our Colony site itself will change once the clock reaches zero.

I guess we'll all know in about one hour and 50 minutes.

My clock says 30:00:37. And my system clock is right.

So it's counting down 30 days from 8:30 May 12?
