What's the next ARG we're playing? Hova/Phoenix/THX et al?

As many others, I joined this because I was of the notion that it was for the premiere of the xbox 360. The thing is.. I had a lot of fun, whether it had been for 360 or the premiere of the new crest toothpaste, I didn't care. When a lot of other people were disappointed with the video (and I understand why), I was happy we'd completed it all.

I'd really love to know what other people are playing.

Is there any game going on now that people from OC were already playing?

Is it possible for some of your new friends from Yay and Argolonists to join you?

Is Zoe's world an option or would we be getting in too late?

Either way, thanks guys, Unfiction has found it's way into my permanent daily (hourly) surfing.

-Bill

P.S.
Anyone I missed at the top was because I had no more room and those were the first names that came to mind. No offense I hope.

i'm looking right now at the big two: perplex city and the art of the heist. it's just sad that it seems tooooo late in the game to join, so i may be doing the next ARG by BBC, titled Jamie Kane. idk, i'm still unsure. apperently ppl already got treoone palms as prizes in the Perplex city ARG, and apperently there is a $20, 000 prize in the Art of the Heist game. If there are any ppl who are EXPERIENCED in either game, is there a way i can catch up? because i REEEALLY wanna start playing. PM or IM me. PLEASE reach me ASAP.

I hope that answers ur question
hope to see u , as well as my other beekeeper/colonist friends in other games.

this wasn't from the great 4orty2wo. they wouldn't put out a half assed one like this. this wasn't an arg. it was a hype project. i'm hyped, but i wanted more colony! grrr

i'm looking at perplex city. i'm pretty sure that is the one with the 20000 reward. you have to find their cube i guess. Smile
to all those who were playing! thanx! its been fun. I'm hoping it still continues, but right now, even though they're saying "it isn't over", it looks over. The "next phase" will be xbox live. I dunno. I hope something comes out of what we've done here.

Art of the Heist is probably the easiest to catch up on, since they have a trailhead (recap on the events so far). Check out StolenA3.com, updated daily with the latest events, and there is a blow-by-blow at the righthand side of the page. If you want to jump in today, we are currently trying to crack some passwords...check out the AotH Puzzles thread in UnFiction to see what's going on with that. You find the .zip files we're currently working on over in the StolenA3.com forums (click on discuss on the main page to get there).

Perplexcity is a lot deeper game and has been building up for over a year and a half (it even had a mini-arg advertisement called Project Syzygy). Hence, it is much tougher to get a handle on. To help understand what's going on, check out the official rabbithole (including some links to more in-game sites) at www.perplexcity.com. Everything you could ever want from the game can be found at the Perplex City Wikipedia (beware, though...spoilers there). And, as always, check out UnFiction forums for the best in speculation, overview, and community ARGing.

4orty2wo Entertainment is currently working on a project that hasn't started yet. We don't know when it will start, but these guys know what they're doing. My guess is that they will wait until the big games wind down before starting up another big-hitter. All we really know is that they are doing something (though they did work on ILB for quite some time before the game started), and they are tight-lipped about any details for now.

Browse around the UnForums for a while to get the lowdown on the other games running. Zoe's World just started recently, so did Omnifam and Anyone seen James?, plus there are usually a couple of games starting in the "News & Rumors" section that haven't fully begun yet (they get their own sections once they get into full swing).

Seconded. I got the impression that they'll wait for Perplex City to wrap before launching their next project.

But I also heard it would be "soon." (What they mean by "soon," on the other hand, is anyone's guess. Smile )

Here's a quick rundown of the stories so far on PerplexCity and AotH:

Perplex:
Perplex City exists in a parallel universe to our own. They live on Earth, and until recentlly had no contact with us. To Perplexians, we were just a theory from some scientists. Then something big happened. A mysterious and powerful artifact, the cube, was stolen from their world. In an initiative to retrieve the cube, the president of Perplex Academy (their major University), Sente Kiteway, made contact with Earth. Sente hired a design firm to create a sort of game that we know of as the Perplex City ARG.

Make no mistake, this is no game to Sente. From what we can tell, failure in retrieving the cube could have catastrophic consequences for the entire alternate universe. Check out Perplexcity.com to find links to the city's newspaper, academy, a weblog, and even businesses located in PC...learn about their culture. If you can find the cube, Sente has promised a (very real) $200,000 reward. However, you will find that one mind can't do this alone. It's going to take teamwork, problem solving, and speculation that only a community can provide.

Heist:
Audi has a bit of a problem. An expensive new sportscar, the A3, has been stolen. Instead of calling the police and seeing their car get stripped for parts to the black market, they have enlisted the services of Last Resort Retrieval. LRR specializes in tracking down stolen goods such as Art and Jewelry...sometimes the best way to fight robbers is to steal your stuff back (ever see the movies Entrapment and The Thomas Crown Affair?). LRR is really made up of Nisha Roberts (ex-military special ops type person) and her boyfriend Ian (leet haxor). The bad guys in this picture are a german guy named Gunther, and his goons Roger and Trent.

Again, check out StolenA3.com for the blow-by-blow, but here's what's happened so far. Gunther is planning some sort of big art heist, and somehow it involved multiple A3's. He broke into an Audi warehouse and put SD memory cards into the navigation systems different cars, but security caught up to him and arrested him before he did anything else. A few days later, Gunther's goons broke into a US showroom and stole an A3 from the sales floor (we're talking in real life here, folks)! Ian got a bit heroic, snuck into a warehouse, and stole the A3 back from the goons. Now Ian is running for his life, with the goons not far behind. Meanwhile, Nisha is busy tracking down the A3's with memory cards hidden inside them, and they figured out that we were watching the whole thing. After being a bit freaked out at the prospect of strangers (us) watching them and us thinking the whole thing is a game, Nisha came up with a way to use us to LRR's advantage. She calls us retrievers, and calls us up to help out when they need unidentifiable helpers. In one such case, three of us helped sneak into an Atlanta Audi dealership, break into an A3, and stole the SD card (in broad daylight during sales hours...one person distracted salesmen, the other distracted security, the third got the memory card!). Retrievers got swanky LRR pins and free Treo PDA/smartphones, not to mention a heart-pounding experience they will never forget.

Other efforts haven't gone so well. Five retrievers were enlisted to do the same thing at Cochella music festival, but between finding the wrong car, a communication breakdown that made Nisha think we were working for the other side, and the goons showing up mid-mission (!), no card was gotten. Bad to worse, Myke, the contact guy between LRR and the retrievers, wound up dead the next day. Just two days ago, the goons found Ian in New Orleans and beat the crap outta him, but some passer-bys intervened before they killed him. He got away with a couple of cracked ribs and a smashed laptop. Tension is rising, and friends are turning on friends. Virgil, a video game designer who is supposed to be helping LRR, was the only one besides Nisha who knew where Ian was. Ian is pissed, and it looks like he's gonna do something rash to Virgil (who is scheduled to be at E3 this week). Big news coming?

So, there you have it. Heist has been running for a while, so it's a bit lengthier in explanation, but its also rather straightforeward and easy to follow through the twists and turns. Perplex started more recently, and is really complex (although the plot is rather straighforward).

EDIT: forgot a zero

great job on the summaries

Great job - just two points:

Perplex City- amount of the reward

According to the interview Spacely did with Adrian Hon, which is on the main page of www.unfiction.com

Quote:
It's simple enough - the person who returns the cube to us will receive £100,000.

Art of the Heist

After the problem at the Coachella Event, Nisha got another card from a dealership in Washington, DC. We are trying to solve the puzzles on it now. Ian is looking for people in LA to assist him at something that will happen at E3. You can email him at vengenceSPLATlastresortretrieval.com

I realize that you already know some of this already, but I want to cover all the bases for those players who are lurking in this thread.

Well, I suggest checking out game of your choice's rabbithole or wiki to get up to speed on things. You'll find that ARG's are all about cooperation, which is why UnFiction is usually where most of the action happens (even when a game has its own forums). Use IRC Chat to talk in real time about games, or each game's UF forum. Bigger games tend to use multiple forum threads (devoting one to puzzles, one to updates, one to character interactions, one to meta questions), so it's best to just look through the main forum page and see what's out there.

We bounce ideas off of one another to get speculation, and usually puzzles are too hard to solve alone. To make things easier to find, we use tags at the beginning of new posts. Aside from that, be sure to search before posting. That way, we keep the amount of repeat posts (trout) to a minimum. It's usually a good idea to lurk for a bit before posting in the forum, to see how the game is flowing and how players interact. Still, if you have something useful to contribute and know that it's new information, don't be bashful about posting just because you haven't been playing since day one.

If you didn't get the chance to yet, you might want to check out the ARG tutorial for a very breif overview of the types of puzzles you'll see. Another way to build puzzle-busting skills is to check out the finished game www.soogees.com and it's solves in this UF thread. Some of the puzzles in soogees are insidious, but the answers and logic to solving them are all in that UF thread.

Lessee, did I forget anything? ARGN for news, a glossary of UF slang, and a great collection of puzzle solving tools. Have fun!

I'm playing Perplex City now, and just to let everyone know, it's still in Pre-Game. So don't worry about catching up, all there is to catch up on is background information. They have sent out some beta puzzle cards to 333 lucky people, but the real game has not started.

And to clarify, the prize is $200,000 US Dollars.

if you need any back story information or anything else feel free to PM me.
