I can only imagine that Bungie was working on Halo 3 during the Halo 2 process. Lots of the story and other business that we saw is incomplete, and was likely being written as a double-feature all along (much like the unfortunately-stolen Matrix twins) and purposely intended to be released close together like this. Bungie, being Microsoft-owned (and I cry myself to sleep some nights knowing this), has likely had access first and foremost to all the 360's tech right off the bat, and won't have to "change-over" their software so much as they have "already been doing it."

I hope it's good, and I think that what we saw at last year's E3 (maybe it was the year before, I don't remember... but you know that city scene with the whole "ships crashing to Earth, full-scale invasion force at hand" thing going on?) may have been an intended piece of H3 all along.

I highly doubt we'll see another ARG in relation to it (as mentioned above, it'll be too obvious), but am I the only idiot who'd pay up to $15 to buy a disk featuring ILB - Act II? Am I the only schmuck salivating over the imagined prospect that Jan and maybe Jersey are joining up with the other 1.1's she knows and going off to do something fantastic with Durgalissa at the helm?

I agree, TridenT. I think that they have been working on Halo 3 in parellel with Halo 2. In fact they must have been doing so in order to have H3 out on the same day as the PS3 launches (which surprisingly might be this year!!)

Well...I DID tell my friends to bother Bungie's people at E3 about a role for Durga in Halo 3...

*Grifter is taking bets on if the launch date for the PS3 (and thus Halo 3) will be announced tonight at the PS3 Unveiling. (NOTE=Article is old but the unveling details about PS3 remain the same)

Quote:
Sony will hold its event on a sound stage in Sony Pictures' complex in Culver City, just outside Los Angeles, at 15.00 PST on Monday, May 16th, and is expected to show off the next-generation PlayStation for the first time at this event.

I hope they specify the launch date, but I have a feeling that the date will be announced at a later time.

From what I gather, release dates are the main artillery each of the Big Three will use at each other when they take the stages at E3. This unveiling tonight will simply be to confirm or deny many hardware rumors, I imagine.

I heard Nintendo isn't showing their new platform at E3, but that could very well be wrong since the source isn't exactly the most reliable one I have.

Another source gave me some rumors about the Revolution-apparently it's going to use gyroscopic controls (think Wario Ware Twisted or Kirby Tilt n Tumble for the game boy systems), is going to be very small, and have free online play. I also heard something about it having a microphone, as well. What we DO know is that it'll be wifi out of the box, and backwards compatible with the gamecube. It's also expected that Component video will be a major part of it, since even though Nintendo no longer supports the cable with their new Cube revision, they still make all their Cube games progressive scan. gamespy is Nintendo's online network of choice for the DS, and assumedly the Revolution, as well.

I'd say this is the silliest thing I have ever heard. If for some wild reason Nintendo fails to show the Revolution at E3, they will commit career suicide. Even if they don't intend to release the thing till after next year's E3, they HAVE to show us something, or our plans will go toward saving money for one of the competitor's systems.

While some of this (out-of-box wifi, back-compatible w/Cube, GameSpy) has been confirmed, the gyroscope rumor comes from only one source I know of, and that person has been proven to be false. That's not to say it won't happen, it just means don't believe that particular source.

I will be more drooly by the end of the week.

To me this says that Halo 3 will not be much more than Halo 2, ported over to xbox 360. Likely running on exactly the same engine as Halo 2 with improved graphics and the new version of xbox live, but I dont think that Bungie would have been developing two seporate and compleatly different games. Basicaly sounds like Microsoft wants to sell us Halo 2 all over again for xbox 360.

And this surprises you why?
But the reason I'm happy about it is this: overall improvement.
Remember in Campaign mode, nearly every cutscene was marred by that whole "texturing taking too long" problem that caused us to spend a few seconds looking at a green blur that eventually becomes Master Chief? No more of that. While I think graphics are overrated, I think an upgrade is always a good idea.

And I DO think that Bungie has been developing Halo 2 and 3 simultaneously. They aren't "seperate and completely different", because for the most part, they'll run on practically the same game engine (and really, that engine's only a tweaked-up Halo 1 engine, so it's not like it was hard to do in the first place), and most likely the control scheme and many of the enemies will be the same. All they have to do is compensate for more processing power and add in the new levels and cutscenes. Yes, this takes time. No, it does not take the same amount of time the first or second Halo needed.

I guess what I mean is that I expect more of a Halo 2.5, a continuation and polishing of Halo2 more than a huge leap in game play.

Ebgames already has a placeholder in their website for Halo 3... complete with release date and price! (unconfirmed and subject to change of course)

I think it was pretty clear they were in dual development since the game came out a year and a half past the original E3 city-battle demo.

I know after playing Halo 2 I was wondering, "What did they spend all this time doing?"

All those development hours had to be going somewhere, because other than more level design and some AI and physics tweaks, the engine and a lot of the models appeared to be done right there. You would think Live support had to be partially started from Halo PC.

Also, if you followed the development in general and watched the documentary info on the Halo 2 DVD, there's plenty that was developed that was never used. I can only assume the ATV, the alien wolf things, the unused flood model, and maybe the other 4 Warthog variants will be incorporated in Halo 3. I know the models are done for all of them, and the ATV physics are entirely worked out.

Then again, though supposedly complete for all this time, the flamethrower still hasn't shown up in the game.

As long as Halo 3 actually has a decent story, unlike the last one.

I'll weigh in.

There's no way they'll incorporate anything from ILB into Halo 3. They don't have respect for what we did or are doing or anything relating to ARGs. I can't particularly blame them. Heck, they don't even particularly have respect for us as people, considering H2 Co-Op.

There is nothing that says that H3 must come out on the 360. It's a wise idea, since they want to use it to sell the 360, but it will still take attention off of Sony if it's on the original X, which they still plan on selling hundreds of games for.

About the cutscenes - If they drag for you, consider buying one of the limited edition Xboxes. I have a Halo Xbox (I started late, and after months of playing on a friend's X, I couldn't resist Halo 1), and I am -always- surprised at how differently it models up on mine versus my buddy's across the hall. I don't know what sort of hardware changes took place between them, but they're significant enough to detect in H2.
