Question: is the online listing of room availability accurate, or do we have a reserved block of rooms? I hope it's the latter, since I was hoping for a roomie to help defray costs... and a double bed just isn't big enough for two relative strangers to sleep on

We have a reserved block of rooms!! Do NOT BOOK ONLINE!! CALL AND TELL THEM YOU ARE WITH THE UNFICTION GROUP!!!

(sorry for shouting just want to make sure everyone gets this message)

I just wanted to reiterate this again. rose and I just came from Hotel Penn, and the very nice lady we spoke to said that to get the group rate and the nicer rooms (Superior), you must CALL THEM DIRECTLY. We saw the Superior room and it's pretty big (by New York standards) and nice, supposedly the rooms they have online are not nearly as nice.

If you already booked at the Hotel Penn online through the hotel's website, you can still cancel it, DO IT RIGHT THIS SECOND AND CALL THEM. If you booked at the Hotel Penn online, but through someone else (Expedia, etc) then, unless they allow you to cancel (which most of them don't), I'm afraid you're SOL Sad although you might be able to upgrade the room once you're there, and hey, at least you'll be in the same hotel as all the cool cats.

Also, all you karaoke fans will be happy to know that the hotel bar (which looks very nice btw) has Karaoke on Friday nights from 10pm-1am. I look forward to seeing all of you make drunken fools of yourselves.

I think you an count me and the missus in on that. Sounds super fun, and we don't like baseball. Smile

WOW. This sounds great! I'm even more excited about this trip now than I was before!

The Village Voice just came out with its 5th Annual 100 Best issue, featuring the 100 Best and Cheapest Restaurants in the city. Previous 'Bests' have included:

Best Italian Restaurants
Best Latin Restaurants
Best Asian Restauraunts
and the original Best and Cheapest Restaurants from 5 years ago.

Someone want to add this to the Wiki?

Hmm. I scored a ticket to the Spamalot matinee on Sunday, so maybe just a portion of the walking tour...

OK, NO PROMISES, but the drummer in my band is the drummer in Spamalot, and on a limited basis I MIGHT be able to get tickets to that show, for a VERY FEW people, if they want them. First come, first serve.

Wow. Thanks Joe, this was great info, especially the Asian list.

And the best part for our purposes is that each listing has a link to a Yahoo map of the location. So, if you see a restaurant that looks good, you can immediately see if it's in a location you plan to be near.

But of course, the greatest part of the online Voice is that you don't have to flip through 20 pages of shemale escort service ads and anti-Bloomberg hatemail to get to the story.

Interesting.... Spamalot = good Wink

As far as events and things to do goes, I'm more concerned with getting a chance to meet everyone and hang out than seeing the sights. I was in NY not too long ago and we saw most of the major touristy things. So really I'm not too picky on activities. I'll tag along to whatever most people are doing. Although Spamalot wasn't playing when I was there, so I *might* enjoy something like that. Wink

OK, for the unnamed two who I said I would try to score tix for, I'm still working on it, Sean is pretty busy these days and hard to get in touch with. For the rest, wait until after I get back to them, and if Sean can score more, I'll post it here. It's a special favor to call in since he has a limited number of freebies to give away.

I expect Spamalot will be hard to get tickets for - I really had to hack around to score mine. But keep in mind the Tonys for best original(ish) musical this year split three ways - with The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (funky and funny, got a best supporting actor in a musical Tony) and The Light in the Piazza (a more traditional musical). Try Playbill.com for links to the shows and their ticket sites. And Broadwaybox.com is showing some discounts available (although never for when I need them).

Also a nod to Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (best actor in a musical), and Avenue Q (very topical and adult, despite the puppets, still running strong from last year), Doubt (probably the strongest straight play this season, got a couple acting Tonys) and Glengarry Glen Ross (also a strong play, best actor Tony).

The madre and I are going to see Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Thursday night because of the Tony performance... and my mom's an apparent John Lithgow fangrrl. Who knew?
