I'd just like to add to the chorus of THANKS to everyone who organized the event. It's not easy planning an event like this and you guys did an amazing job.

It was great meeting everyone and putting names to faces, even if I am so bad at that sort of thing I'll forget it all by the time I'm done typing this sentence!

I hope to see you all at the next one, and the one after that, and the one where 20,000 people come from all over the world and we can say "remember when..."

Yay! I'm so glad that all three of us turned out to be normal Smile (Not that I was worried or anything, but the hubbie was a little nervous about those "internet axe-murderers I was staying with")

And all of the planners did such an excellent job! Thanks for a great weekend! I hope we didn't tire you out too much Smile

Memorable moments:

- Talking in the hotel coffee shop about our group, only to have Brian Clark turn around and ask excitedly if we were part of the ARGfest. Brian is seriously the coolest. Smile

- Robmagus' magic tricks

- talking to Sin Vraal at the diner about puzzles and ARGs.

- meeting everyone and trying to remember 2 names for each person and as soon as I thought I knew everyone 3 more people would show up.

- Not eating anything all day Friday and then drinking one beer at the diner only to realize I've turned into a major lightweight and surely made a fool of myself.

- Mango Chutney french fries

- the PM talks

- having my brain asplode as "Charlie Tan" walked up to the group in the lobby and said hello

Regrets:

- there were so many people that I never got a chance to really talk to. krysytn... I swear one of these times we're going to have to actually interact at one of these events Wink Addlepated, jamesi, spacebass and so many others I hardly got to talk to! The next fest-o-con definitely has to have a chunk of time built in for more socializing in somewhat quiet and air-conditioned place Wink

- leaving kona at the subway all alone

- buying a giant framed poster for my daughter as a NY gift. Next time I'll remember to buy something that can fit in my backpack on the flight.

I heard similar concerns from Mrs. 5.

To join the chorus: ARGfest was awesome fun. Massive kudus to rose, bags and all the folks involved in putting it on. Having been to past ARGfests I was a little worried that it would lose the casual bits, but it all worked out. The people were still the focus and the panels were just icing on the cake.

My favorite parts were anytime spent talking to fellow argfesters, jane's talk and toasting Evan Chan (who "couldn't be with us"). I didn't even mind walking halfway across the brooklyn bridge, because we got to see some tall ships and some nice views.

I also think that if the organizers are out of pocket we should all chip in and make it right.

No complaints what-so-ever, but a couple of small suggestions:

1) first night meet and greet should be somewhere where we can all yack our heads off without having to shout too loudly.

2) The name tags were a great idea, but only lasted one night. I think next time, we should have name-cards on lanyards, with the nick writ large and real name small (personally I find the nicks easier to remember). There are still people that I never found out who they were (which for an ARGfest is a first -- there have never been that many before). For simple minds like my own its troublesome trying to remember two names for everyone. I think we should just give in to using nicks. Of course this would require a membership fee of some sort.

Again, ARGfest was a blast. Many, many thanks to the organizers, panelists, game-meisters and most of all to all the ARGfesters who made it so much fun. So where is it next year?

Yeah, sorry about that. The nametags were a grassroots effort.
As such, I didn't have access to funds for lanyards or real names, just the list Diandra posted. Pins were in budget and optioned to rose, but quickly nixed. I think the reasoning was something having to do with drunken ARGers and sharp objects.
In retrospect, I should have printed extras, and started on the design a wee bit before the 20th Smile and maybe combined lists from the wiki.
Ah well, next time.

Very Happy

dude, you did fine. this is just food for future thought. considering that you guys were paying out of pocket, it was generous to even make them for us. I don't think any of the previous argfests had nametags. ya done good.

Oh, no don't get me wrong, I'm not offended at all. I just wanted to make it clear that it wasn't something the planners were involved with. Actually, I was originally just going to bring some blank tags and a sharpie, but I got a bit carried away Very Happy

BTW, here's the file if anyone wants to do anything with it. Install the font before you try to use it. Smile

I didn't get a nametag either, but it didn't make much of a difference. The one suggestion I openly discussed with people was, for the next ARGFest, a pre-fest picture list of the attendees. I walked by the ARGFest group on Friday twice before recognizing Varin, who I wouldn't have recognized had I not visited her website in the past.

yeah that would have been helpful. although I must admit that celina and I made a game friday morning of picking out the ARGfesters as they walked into the cafe.

Actually a post ARGfest version would be kind of cool for those of us who are still puzzled and curious about the identities of some of the mystery folks...

Having finally recovered from ARGfest.........I can't wait until the next one, and yes, Curtis has been told he MUST be there Wink

It was wonderful seeing all the festgoers from years past and meeting all of the festgoers for the next ?? years. Thanks so much to Rose, Bagsbee and Joe for showing us southerners that "yankees" can have fun Wink

eventually I will have pictures up on flickr, the account name is greywolf. I'll post a link after I group them.

@Chippy: Letterman was great, I didn't realize how small the set really is.

@bags: Curtis enjoyed chatting with you at Stout, we ended up there again on Monday night, very nice place, thanks.

We had an excellent time and can't wait to meet up with all of you again, the name tag idea is a good one, we weren't there friday and didn't get to meet (remember the name) of some of the people there Sad

not quite. Some of the people are really hard to see in that. And not everyone who attended was in that picture. I was thinking more of a yearbook kinda thing. ARGfest class of '05. we could even have little snipey captions like "most likely to be trouted by i_monk" or "most likely to accidently trigger end of world" and stuff like that.
