[ROOKERY TOWER] Another new ARG?

Seems to me there's been a flood of litlle new args lately. *shakes head*

Anyway, I was poking around ramdom LJ sites today and I came across this. I'm busy with perplex city, but i thought I'd post it here for anybody who's interestied, and not playing one of the million OTHER games that just wrapped. Anyway, I'm pretty sure its an ARG. It could or course, be somebody with real paranormal experiences. Who know?

Sorry to be so long winded, here's the link: http://www.livejournal.com/users/laylasweetie/

EDIT - Added name of game to topic title. Thanks to Russell for the name suggestion - SG

Okey cokey.

The cipher in the 8th May entry is a ROT, which decrypts to:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

AND HAVE STOPPED DYING NOW FOR EVER I THINK THEY WOULD BELIEVE THE LIE

The bold text in the 10th May entry reads:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

freewebsdotcommorganparanormal, which leads to www.freewebs.com/morganparanormal

Enjoy.

And what would be wrong about an influx of new grassroots games?

Heh, good point Crowfoot. I've emailed Morgan, I think this is our first contact point.

EDIT-

Looking in the Case Details and Archived Investigation sections yield some odd results.

Disaster Strikes Once More at Rookery Hill

Rookery Hill, home of the once proud family Artemes, has in

Got an email back from Morgan, here is the entire convo.

Quote:

I am interested in joining your team to help solve the case of Rookery
Tower. I came across your website from Ms. Hardesty's Livejournal
blog, and I was wondering if there was anything I could do to help.

Tom.

Quote:

Hi Tom,

Thank you for emailing, and taking an interest in the field of the paranormal.

Currently the Rookery Tower case is in its infancy. I am at the moment
attempting to gain some historical understanding of the site, as Ms.
Hardesty has told me that she knows next to nothing about it's past.As
ide from that as you'll know from my page, I'm going to visit the site
this weekend, perhaps earlier if i can rearrange some plans.

I'm not sure how much you know about the field, but at the site I plan
to attemp some spirit photography. Did you know sometimes when you
take a photo, you won't see anything at all, but later processing will
reveal that you've captured a ghost! The same is true for evp, but
with sound.

If you would like to I can add you to my mailing list in case anything
big pops up. Also, if you think of anything I haven't I'd be greatful
for the heads up!

J. Morgan

Quote:

Yeah, sure, you can add me to the mailing list.

If you haven't already noticed, parts of your website have been hacked
in some way, possibly from the other side. The code in the 'Case
Details' section reads:

eric bive it gackeric bive it gack
eric bive it gack

I read this as:
Eric give it back Eric give it back Eric give it back

[odd characters]

newspaper.jpg
Want it back now
Remember the rhyme with the sink?
Mom was wrong.

But closer inspection of your website shows that
www.freewebs.com/pewsnaper.jpg is in fact an image. It shows a partly
blacked out newspaper clipping from the 19th century about Rookery
Tower.

The 'Archived Information' part reads:

couyantiavehtcouyantiavehtcouyantiaveht

couyantiavehtcouyantiavehtcouyantiaveht

0500550505005005050055500500050500500005

several times. The jumbled text reads You can't have it back. The odd
number is binary. If the 5s are replaced by 1s, it reads 'MINE!' in
binary.

Hope this helps,

Tom.

There... now we wait.

Not that it makes a difference, but Eric is spelled two different ways in the clipping (Eric and Erik).

And Artemes has a few meanings (safe, untouched, unspoiled )

I have the same problem.
When you click this link to pewsnaper.jpg it redirects to this thread.
If you paste the address in the address bar, it works fine.

Another couple of emails:

Morgan to me:
Quote:

Tom,

I'm not exactly sure what this if. Do you mean to tell me that the perrson hacking my site has something too do with the Rookery Towers case? I shall have to narrow my eyes and tighten my skeptics belt, at least until I find some corroborating evidence.

Of course, Ms. Hardesty did indicate that there were paranormal forces playing games with her computer. I will be most disapointted if it turns out Ms. Hardesty herself is the one playing games.

However, the information you revealed to me has been very helpful, and I have to commend you on it. I was fairly sure it was random "graffiti", and would not have thought to analyze it further. Perhaps I should have. Some "investigator's brain" I have.

I certainly hope I can count on your quick ingenuity, should any further problems arise.

My response:
Quote:

Always here to help. The subject matter of the 'hacking', however,
seems very relevant to the case you are working on. Seems more than
just a coincidence... anyway. Contact me if you need any help, we have
a team of people ready to tackle anything which may turn up.

EDIT- Couple more:

Morgan:

Quote:

Tom,

I didn't mean to sound accusatory in my email. However the paranormal field has always been plagued by those who wish to trick investigators and make us look like fools. I am not suggesting that you or Ms. Hardesty are likely to fall in that category, I merely remind myself that the veracity of any case is as important a subject of investigation as its details.

I am of course terribly excited about your findings, esspecially the 'perwsnaper' bit. I am currently investigationg as to whether or not a copy of the article may be found in its entirety. It would of course be a lot easier if I knew which damned newspaper it was from.

yours,

J Morgan

Me:
Quote:

Of course, I didn't mean to sound accusatory in mine, heh. And I
completely understand what you mean with regards to pranksters etc...
more often than not paranormal activity can be explained away with a
simple hoax.
