Winnie Strauss's Top Tips
for the Polygon Park Puzzle Marathon

The Polygon Park Puzzle Marathon is one of the oldest and most popular puzzle marathons in Perplex City. Covering a distance of 13 miles with puzzles at each mile marker, it's an event that tests runners to their physical and mental limits. Winnie Strauss, winner of the 268 marathon and an experienced puzzle-runner, shares some of her top tips.

1. Many people only train for one half of the puzzle marathon - either running or puzzles - and neglect the other half. The truth us that puzzle marathon winners are rarely expert runners or puzzlers, but they're competent in both and don't end up losing a lot of time on either section.

2. Mix up your training. If you normally run on roads, try doing the occasional long off-road run; it'll help your muscles and joints.

3. Practice puzzle solving during runs. You'll find that trying to assemble a 3D shape after six miles of running is much more difficult than doing it in the comfort of your home.

4.Don't be tempted into taking cognitive enhancement drugs like Ceretin or Expedin - the marathon organisers have very accurate tests that can pick up any drug, and if they detect any, you'll be immediately disqualified. Besides, what's the point of taking part if you're just going to cheat?

5. Pace yourself during the sections between puzzles. You might be tempted to sprint because they're only separated by a single mile, but there's no point arriving quickly hen you're completely out of breath and can't think straight.

Good luck, and have fun!
