I was rejected with this square (three times, because I'm too persistent)

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
16 13 4 1
9 2 15 8
3 12 5 14
6 7 10 11

but am at a loss why. Can someone show me my error without humiliating me excessively?

First time post, please be nice. By my calculations there are 54 unique solutions to this problem. The PC site only seems to accept the one above from pharzo, I got it wrong with two different attempts before checking here. I can't believe that MC aren't aware of the fact that there is more than one unique solution to a 4x4 magic square if you are only given two of the numbers within it. This makes me think that I must have missed something on the card that can be used to identify the solution they want from the 54 that appear to fit the bill.

The excel file contains all 54 solutions in case anyone is interested, it also has the one I got accepted highlighted in a different colour.

Try searching for 4x4 magic squares from history. There is one particular square.

i think that they have been e-mailed about this already

but this is just another case of them wanting the historically popular answer, rather than any correct answer

They were probably betting on the fact that most people would just google it (like me) and find the solution i did

errrg!

Much irritation at having entered a correct solution rejected only to have it rejected Evil or Very Mad even when I used the square I thought they wanted. Turns out that there are multiple versions of the

online and that only one is the original that we are asked for.

What is the diagram all about?

a) Where is it?
b) Is it supposed to be some kind of machine
c) What does Zakastrange (???) mean?

Enough questions!

I can tell you that a Zahnstange (top right) is a gear rack. Could be some sort of cable car link? Its also linked to train type things.

The image of the lake looks like somewhere I recognise but as I have been araound a bit it could be anywhere but I am thinking the lake is in Germany - there is a distinctive building in the middle background on the shoreline.

I will try and find more for you all

Not so much errata per se...

Taken directly from the PxC FAQ pages:
Quote:
* What do the wave numbers mean? What's 'Pre-release Limited Edition Wave 0.5' all about?

The 256 cards that will make up the first season of Perplex City are being released in four separate waves. The first wave of 66 cards was released in July 2005, and the second wave of 66 was released in November 2005. Two further waves of 62 cards each will be released in 2006.

Our first print run of cards consisted of the first two waves. All of these cards were printed with 'Pre-release Limited Edition Wave 0.5' on them. All future cards that we print (including reprints of waves 1 and 2) will be clearly marked with their actual wave number (e.g. 'Wave 1 Season 1). We will not be printing any more 'Pre-release' cards.

I think it's just to try and avoid (more) confusion with waves and pre-releases and special editions and...and...and...

I'm just wodnering if this means that they'll release waves 3 and 4 in seperate boxes or if they'll release release wave 3 then combined wave 3/4 together

to me the combined wave thing they did with 1 and 2 was always a bad idea Sad
it meant that long time players who had most or all of the 1st wave from the pre-release would risk getting a lot of cards they don't need, and to me it didn't help newbies as the wave 1's were too scarce to bulid a reasonable set of wave 1 without spending a lot of money or buying the pre-release cards.

I noticed this on the website too:

Quote:
The card contained in this article is a never before seen Wave 3 card that will be officially released in a few weeks.

so I guess we'll be seing wave 3 pretty soon now!
