Amusingly, 'Kostka' means 'cube' in Polish. I wonder what the other cultists are named.. Ciwb? Tarning?

Hopefuly they ment this in a metiphorical sence, "with us and the Cube now", its very reminicent of saying, "she is with God now", which can either mean she's converted to a new way and is metaphoricly with God, or very litteraly that she has died and is presumed to be with God...

The Reconstructionists sound like a mix of the the Branch Dividens and the Amish. The Branch Dividens for there Goverment sepritism, and the Amish for thier rejection of Tech of all kinds.

well if the government moved against any religious group there'd be some form of retaliation, and the Reconstructionists obviously have good enough PR that police intrusion would be viewed negatively by the majority population (they might see it as an attack on the Cube for example)...

i also like that the Recons are becoming a major player, could get interesting

POTUS the section you quoted doesn't say any thing about touching her, it says they can't comple her to talk, I read that and was happy they acctually respect peoples right to privacy in PxC, right now they have no proof atleast none they have made public, that shows shes done anything wrong. She has done some mighty suspicious things yes, but nothing illegal, besides as wintermute_au pointed out you get bad PR for grabbing people and questioning them like that, the kind of bad PR that leads to no one trusting you, which inturn leads to a "them" vs "us" attitude that eventually causes the citizens at large to hate and avoiding contact with Goverment inforcement groups.

I've always wondered what the Reconstructionists are called that *for* - are they aiming to try and remake the Cube? Or is it just Perplex City society they wish to reconstruct??

It *does* sound from the article as if what the police are saying is they'd love for Kostka to come forward and help in their enquiries, but they don't think she's likely to...no doubt because 1) the Recons. are a close knit protective and 2) they have very little truck with 'secular' govermental control of the City.

They are a bit reminiscent of the Branch Dravidians, I guess, but the group they put me most in mind of is Aum Shinri Kyo (the Japanses sect that exploded sarin gas on the Tokyo subway in the hope that it would bring about Armageddon). Failing that, the Manson Family...

Well they held the Recon-8 for months and they couldn't compel them to talk either. So that's mental toughness under duress - or the R8 were innocent, or some obstacle prevented the captors from exercising their will.

The long and complicated history should have zilch to do with jurisprudence however. . . Given the possibilities are infinite, it is just as possible she is guilty as she is innocent - but she is more relavent than others - and individuals do not have the freedom to remain apart of questioning in murder cases, society demands they be questioned.

Perhaps Reconstructionists in Perplex City are somewhat similar to Christian Reconstructionists on Earth. More information on them here.
