[UPDATE] May 29 - Perplex City Sentinel

New View from Earth (if I can toot my own horn): http://perplexcitysentinel.com/archives/2005/05/view_from_earth_4.html

Summarized Articles:
Quote:
Joya Released
Singer Joya has been released from Phuah Hospital after collapsing in public Sunday night. Her fiance and producer Horace Shockley released a statement reading, "We are thankful for all of our well-wishers and the show of public support. We hope that the public will now respect Joya's need for a calm schedule in the weeks leading up to our wedding."

Teaser Titles:

PCAG Considers Champaign

Letters section:
Quote:

I am concerned that you are not giving a balanced view on the Northside Preserve area. Your newspaper seems to be only presenting the argument for the development. We heard that there was a protest and five people where arrested, but what are their views? At the moment, I am undecided whether it should go ahead or not because I don't feel as I have been given all the details. A development can be sympathetic towards the environment and preservation. It can even have a positive impact. Has an Environmental Impact Assessment been conducted?

I am writing to congratulate the Sentinel on its masterful coverage of the run-up to the summer Mazy boat race. So often, newspapers allow themselves to be swayed by an interest in "facts" or an aversion to "bias." The Sentinel's piece last week "Tigers rule!" showed none of these unfortunate tendencies; the fawning interview with Tigers rowing captain Bamina Mulholland admirably sidestepped any serious debate concerning the injuries which have dogged her crew, the astonishing "history" sidebar was clearly designed as an enjoyable quiz for the alert reader, containing as it did no less than 12 serious errors of fact, and the failure to mention that the Tigers carry advertising for the Sentinel merely stimulated the reader's desire to enter the world of investigative reporting. Altogether I declare myself, as did your Sentinel reporter "nocked [sic] over" by your paper's coverage.
Lianne Vay

I am absolutely appalled that the Sentinel has not made any mention of all of the veiled and not-so-veiled threats that those horrible Earth people have sent in regarding the Receda Cube in the Letters to the Editor pages of the Sentinel. Master Kiteway has put a lot of faith in these people, and for his blind trust, we get suggestions that perhaps once the Cube is recovered, they will simply keep it! It is positively abhorrent that our Academy officials are continuing to work on an even footing with these kinds of people, and I seriously hope our government is making contingency plans on how to cope with these violent, angry people should they, in fact, seize the Cube and keep it for their own ill-conceived ends.

It occurs to me that there are increasing ways and increasing value to the flow of information that could easily create a strong balance of trade between Perplex City and Earth. Besides the obvious creation of Puzzles for the multitude of websites and newspapers that carry them daily, the academy talents could be used to discover a pattern in our stock markets that we've failed to see. However, technology improvements and cryptography applications are likely to be enormously profitable for the people of Perplex city and likely to strengthen the Leck.
Stephen Casey, Earth

I recently read an editorial about "Kiteway Unfit for Office." I find it unfair for John Cormoran to be so negative of us, from our point of view, we find ourselves communicating with the unknown hoping good things come of it, for all we know you could be here to attack. Whether this Perplex City exists or not is why I want to help, if you really come from parallel universe or you're communicating through time.
I'm also very interested about the Academy Researchers and how they have managed such a feat in technology.
Hisatoshi Sato, Earth

As much as I hate to admit it, this guy has a point. Over the last couple of weeks, there has been a few letters in the Sentinel that could have been more polite.
Lets try and be nice people - we don't want a war of words or anything!

(It is a bit wierd though - it has already been stated that there are difficulties transporting the Cube back... see my below)

The Sentinel wrote:

...even if the Cube should be located, the means to transport it back to Perplex City is not available ... We will rest easier simply knowing it is in a safe place on Earth...

Hrm, here's some spec that's just popped into my head, perhaps the whole thing about the cube going missing is just a big puzzle that the academy has made up as a puzzle for us here on earth. This seems especially possible after the E3 MC thing where they were apparently saying that this is just the start of a chain of things that they're going to be running based on PxC. I know that this is totally wild spec that has absolutely no grounding, but it's maybe worth a vague thought?

Yeah, it's a good read too, Bri. I sent an article off to the Sentinel a few days back, having been inspired by some of the arguments we were having in the forums, but it was a) pretty convoluted and b) fairly cynical (in the spirit of the game, of course!), so I've no idea if they'd consider running it. Might be nice and controversial though.
