Re: [puzzle] imcontactlist.txt {SD4/My Internet}

The thing that strikes me about that list is the "not alphabetized" note and the fact that all the IDs have numbers in them - three dozen (312/36), thendecade (10), toduo (2). Helpful or not... I can't say.

Maybe something, maybe nothing - but I noticed something strange when I did alphabetize the listings

Code:
19tearsforu
basejumper81
crazy28guy
fredm62
gone4sure
pier54view
stillin63
reallyred0
thendecade
threedozen
toduo

The three names without numerical numbers are at the bottom. If you look at journal00374, those numbers appear in the subject line: Subject: Wednesday – 36 Sales in 10 Hours and 2 to Go! If they appeared in order, I'd be a lot happier. But right now I'm just confused as to if I'm chasing a wild goose here or not - especially since none of the other numbers seem to match up.

36 seems like it's quite important... there are the two sixxsix files, and if you take that to mean 6 times 6, as opposed by 6 by 6, the answer would be 36...

Going through journal00374.txt there are 20 numbers:
36
10
2
300
6
7
25
3
8
9
1
11
6
0

Unfortunately, when compared to the IM list, it has 1 more number -- the IM list has 19 numbers.

Actually, I counted 15 numbers, and your list has 14:

36 10 2 300 6 7 25 3 12 8 9 1 11 6 0

I'm pretty new to these puzzles... they're driving me nuts! Very Happy

Ah yes, I left out the 12 when he said "dozen" since I was thinking there was a reason he used a dozen instead of typing 12, just as there's probably a reason why numbers weren't used in the IM contact list to create the number 36, 10, and 2.

Indeed. For the 36, 10, and 2 to show up in that order must be a clue...

Oh, and as a clarification I meant individual numbers... 20 individual digits.

Journal00374.txt solve?

The text of this journal message is:

Quote:
Subject: Wednesday – 36 Sales in 10 Hours and 2 to Go!

Great news! Sales are booming and I've grossed about $300 in the last 6 or 7 days. I made 25 sales before 3 PM today and another dozen or so by 8 or 9. Just 1 sale after another!

BTW, I grabbed 11 copies of WeWrite 6.0 for the office. Got a great price! See you soon.

I took those numbers is the order in which they appear but ignored dozen as it isn't actually included as a number.

Subject as directions (as others have) to indicate a base36 decode (not quite sure about the 2 yet).

I found that the .0 (which I included as .0) doesn't really do much and seems to be ignored. The result of the decode was:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
30067253891116.0 decodes to anopening.0

I've tried using this (with and without the .0) as the password to the three remaining files but haven't had any luck. I've also tried just using the number string (w/ and w/o the .0) also without any luck.

As such I'm not sure this is too relevant but I'll keep working at it.

So that's why I got nothing when I tried it Smile
You know I've been hitting that base 36 site with all of the latest puzzles Smile

I think it is very relevant, maybe combine it with the imcontactlist?

got me thinking

Ok, so you got me thinking and I looked at the IMlist

Take it in this order:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
basejumper81
crazy28guy
fredm62
gone4sure
19tearsforu
pier54view
reallyred0
stillin63

I put 19 where it is based upon N for nineteen and ignored the three without actual numbers - the rest is just alphabetized

and run it through the Base36 and you get:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
stadtplan.0 which trasnlated to english is City Plan

Which I also tried as a pw w/o success.

I would guess these are kgb passwords, but may not be.

nm, kgb files are all opened I believe.

Nice work!
You did leave out the ".0" when trying out passwords, did you? It is a nasty habit of the converter to put it at the end.
Maybe it refers to the map of Emden (German city, so "Stadtplan")
The hotel and warehouse are circled, so maybe one has to find the hotel name (or whatever building is at that spot)?

It's probably base 36 to base 10 to base 2.
Strangely, the base 36 converter gives different results going driectly from base 36 to base 2.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

anopening == 011000010110111001101111011100000110010101101110011010010110111001100111

stadtplan == 011100110111010001100001011001000111010001110000011011000110000101101110

Neither work though.....hm...
