[META] Promotion / Awareness So. Project Syzygy was a success, but I still feel that it would be cool if we had even more people working on this game, because community is fun. In my view, the best way to get more people is for us - the current community - to help MC advertise. I know they're talking about doing something major soon for the launch in some sort of publication, but nothing beats good 'ol word-of-mouth, or of-blog, or of-sign, or whatever.
In short: Discuss here whether or not you want to help spread the word about PPC, and discuss what methods we should use.
I guess I'll start. I tinkered with the images of the stickers to produce a sheet of smaller posters - they're smaller than note cards, really - that I'm going to tape up at public places (but ones where I won't get caught and embarassed, i.e. bathrooms, phone booths, etc). The sheet is attached. That's my idea - I personally think that the promise of a $200,000 USD reward will be enough to draw in a good amount of people, and I live in a larger-sized city to boot.
Any other ideas?

I've mentioned this elsewhere, but I regularly write on pound notes:
Lost: The Cube
£100,000 reward
perplexcity.com
This gets the point across IMO, plus it basically secures the fact that loads of potentials see it. There's got to be better ways though - come on people, think!

(mumble mumble..off topic...pacers, treats, space dust....)

Funny you should say that, because I actually do write them on £1 notes
Where I live, the wonderfully tourisic island of Jersey, pound notes still exist - see below.

I've been thinking about leaving notes, or printed out versions of the stickers in books in the library. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Pattern Recognition would be a good start. Any other book suggestions?

I always hit Barnes and Noble when I do stuff like this, but the only books I ever put them in are Stephenson novels: Cryptonomicon and Snow Crash, maybe Diamond Age.

Going a little more mainstream, how's about Dan Brown - Digital Fortress?

I'd suggest TINAG: A Guide to Alternate Reality Gaming, but that'd just be way too obvious Plus I don't think many libraries stock it presently...

1984's a sure hit, and I guess you could do Digital Fortress if you wanted to but I've never been a big fan of Dan Brown's writing. Good storyteller, but somewhat lacking in style in my opinion. Everyone else likes him, though, so go for it.
You might also want to try a random selection of sci-fi books, as sf readers would seem to me to be a natural audience for something like PPC. I might hit some Asimov or Phil Dick when I stop by Barnes and Noble. I guess I'm going to need to print out a few more of those sheets.

What about copies of Douglas Adam??? Should be flying off the shelves post Hitchhikers film. Besides which, the first thing I thought of when I read about the 'sofas in the stairwells' incident at the Academy was 'Dirk Gently's Detective Agency' (which also includes lots on Bach and quantum physics...)

Obviously, missed the final 's' off his name there. I don't want to appear like an uneducated fool!!
