poll

sounds like time for another poll for location?

That is how we decided on NYC for this summer and Chicago for next for the ARGFests.

Isn't that the most equitable way to choose?

Not necessarily. You gotta have people who are willing to put in the time, and generally speaking, people who tend to vote are not necessarily (by and large) the same people to even make it to the con/meet/weekend o' debauchery.

I should update the Guest list on the Hivemeet website to reflect the actual attendees.

One of the actual committee members didn't even let us know he wasn't coming. I mean, you know, a poll is one thing, but there's people who came to the hivemeet who hardly read this forum, so.

Not exactly equitable, no.

Ah, november? I have school, so sad, I might have made it to that one otherwise.

Hrm...

That might be a little soon to make... not to mention making sure I have enough PTO (paid time off) for that AND the upcoming holidays. Not to mention the fact that the holiday season is expensive in general.

I'll have to see what my schedule looks like, but I'd be willing to say I won't be able to make a november hivemeet. Once a year is about my limit, as much as I love you guys. Mostly due to limited amounts of PTO and money, and many things to use it on.

I'll have to agree with INCyr, especially if the 'Meet is on the west coast. I've already had to scrub a trip to New York as I won't be able to get time off for it, and between Hivemeet, a short summer trip, and Christmas with out-of-town relatives I'm out of vacation days.

And the discretionary budget's a little low at the moment, thanks to Chicago and a TV replacement simultaneous with last Christmas... maybe next spring will give me time to replenish the money-hopper, but November will certainly be too soon.

-- Steve'd love to go, but alas 3 weeks' vacation plus up to 5 days' Earned Time Off doesn't stretch as far as you might think in the service industry.

hmm, I didn't realize that people voted if they were sure they couldn't make it at the time they voted. I am not sure how to do this then. Maybe people could nominate their city with the idea being they are willing to be one of the coordinators?

Working on ARGFest has been a great way to get to know a bunch of people and a great deal of fun to do. (well, the group rates for the hotel was a bit of a pia, but all the rest has been really enjoyable.) I was thinking that more people should have the chance to volunteer their cities and the opportunity to plan something themselves. You know, the more the merrier thing. (I am not implying that anyone involved in planning Hivemeet 2006 disagrees with this or isn't open to suggestions or whatever, this is not meant as a criticism at all, I know how complicated it can be to plan things.)

I would help organize something anywhere, a lot of planning can be done online through emails and chats. For example, for ARGFest, all of the communication with Puppet Masters has been done virtually - though maybe I will get to meet some of the 42 people before the webby awards. So lots, but not all, of the planning can be done without having to be in the physical location.

At least it would be good to try to arrange a place and time that would maximize the number of people that could attend. One reason we wanted NYC was so that people from Europe could make it here more easily and we do have a fairly large delegation of people flying over for ARGFest. So that part of it worked at least.

It seems like having something right before the holidays may not be the best plan. Some discussion about the time and place might be a good way to start?

I feel like we're selecting the next site for the olympics or something.

So who wants to put together a multi million dollar stadium setup for us?

(Note, I dont have any intention to travel too far from IL for something, unless I suddenly find myself with lots of time and money)

But how about creating a beekeeper insurrection at a large event, such as PAX, E3, Taste of Chicago, Whiskey Fest, Mardi Gras, what have you?

It seems endemic to the whole selection process.

We are aware that many of the people who came to Hivemeet '05 wouldn't be able to make it to an event on the West Coast in November. Sad

But we're working on it anyway because it would be nice to get to see some of the people from that area of the country who couldn't make it to Chicago, and because some of the PMs have indicated that they might be more likely to be able to make it to something there than here in the Midwest.

Again, this should not be considered a substitute for ARGfest or Hivemeet '06, and it is only in the early planning stages at the moment.

So, if you are sure at this point that you wouldn't be able to make it, we'll miss you (if the planning doesn't fall through Wink) but don't worry about it too much, because it's not likely to be as much of a Big Deal, and we will see you in 2006.

That sounds like it could be a good idea. Could we have a different numerical descriptor, though?

You're in on this, too?

Is it only the ladies who are going to plan things around here?

So far, I've had nothing to do with it, except interest in going.

I was calling you a freaking critic.
