That sounds like it could be a good idea. Could we have a different numerical descriptor, though?

No.

5.5 is a silly number. To that end, I propose we use "theoretical numbers", thus making the new one -22.infinity, which, as far as I know, isn't even theoretical, just stupid.

It is 05.5.

Or maybe 05'11".

How about V.V?

Then it's roman numerals, and vaguely reminiscient of a smiley Razz

For the record, I'm out of this one.

*generic complaint about numbering scheme
*proposition for new name
*admission that I'm not even planning on coming, just complaining

...

O no, wait ... SF in Nov ... I might just be able to pull that off if given enough plotting er planning time. And I think the name looks just fine. Wink

Love the new avatar, incidentally.

Thanks. Got it from my 4-year-old's shot of the hilt of my new sword I brought back from Brasil.

I can't really vote.

I am abroad now, Most certainly going to miss ARG fest... which sucks... already Missed the first hivemeet... which sucks equally.

I would not reccomend NYC out of experience. I have a bias in hating the city, but I also know it's really difficult to organize a large group of people to do... abroad things, in a laid back fashion. NYC is always busy like rush hour. and there are hundreds of groups trying to do finly organized events everywhere... the places to be, will be crowded... lilkly to an uncomfortable point....

But then again, my only experience with a major city is NYC. Never seen another. another bias for me.

I might say a nice central location, or mabey even Austin, where i am about to journey to. But my experience with any city easily centered is nil, and Austin, while i've heard amazing things about (Live music captiol of the world, Political satire bars, City Slogan "Keep Austin Weird", testimony of Ubercado/DeathDefi/My Family) I really can't comment yet...

All in good time though... we have a year. Very Happy

You just don't get more central US than Chi-town. I do hear that Minneapolis is fun, as is Colorado Springs. Just sayin.

Oh, and I think that Hivemeet 5'11" may just be the best numerical descriptor in the history of mankind.

Did we formally vote on Chicago as a location? I thought we only voted on the date for the event, and the winning date was just impossible for quite a few of the people that voted.

One way to winnow down serious voters is a poll tax. Even a very nominal amount is usually sufficient. We might even decide to charge a deposit to cover the individual cost of the event (rooms / meals / ground transportation), then let people vote on a date/location after they've paid.

BTW, allow me to suggest another location idea: a 3-4 day cruise. Something inexpensive, but interesting. Shouldn't be hard to find in November, for sure. That would substantially cut down on the amount of time we spent traveling and congregating, and we could still split up to do interesting things.

Like the cruise idea, hate the poll tax idea...
but I do agree, there needs to be a much better voting prosedure in place...

Perhaps an open opinion in a wiki? everyone interested in going puts up a place next to their name... once that is descided, nominate some times, and have people do the same.

Breaking it up and making you identify yourself and what you want done, would be equally as effective i pressume.

I don't have much to say (yet) in this thread except A) I'd love to have an excuse to go to SanFran, I have a number of places I can stay at, and I've never been, and B) I like Sanfran or Seattle for 06, but I'm a traveller at heart, anyway, so... whatever works for everyone else, I'll try to make.

Also, I am reasonably adept at making maps with indicators, making PDF's as kits for travellers, nametags, and any other visual gruntwork. I can also track down rates, help figure out central meeting areas, and all of that annoying crap. Whether it's 5.5 or 6.0, don't hesitate to ask. Smile
