Just finished a chat with Derk. Here is the transcript:

Quote:

SamTeexle: Hey Derk, I was just looking at your blog, and I've noticed something... "odd".
DerkTollin: odd.... how so?
SamTeexle: Well, there are some bolded characters in your latest entry that were not bolded before.
DerkTollin: Really? Hold on...
DerkTollin: Huh... yeah.
SamTeexle: I've isolated them, and they say "do I have your attention now"
DerkTollin: what says that? the bolded letters?
SamTeexle: Yes.
SamTeexle: Does anyone else have access to your blog?
DerkTollin: Not that I am aware of.
DerkTollin: Crap....
DerkTollin: She's gone.
SamTeexle: Who's gone?
DerkTollin: Oh... just this girl. A new girl at "UNI" I think.
DerkTollin: She was here this morning when I got here.
DerkTollin: Really nice, too.
DerkTollin: The employees are on their lunch breaks right now and so I sent someone to see if she would come talk to me again.
DerkTollin: But they just came back and said that she must have left.
SamTeexle: Aah. What position is she doing?
DerkTollin: I really don't know. The hiring is done by Stacy Koons. She's really good at what she does. She can pick out the "bad apples" really well.
DerkTollin: I'll have to ask her that though.
SamTeexle: Ah ok. So what draws your attention to this new girl?
DerkTollin: I don't know... it's odd, really.
DerkTollin: I didn't notice her when I first got there. And then, well, it was like she just appeared in front of me.
DerkTollin: Not really of course.
DerkTollin: But you know what I mean.
SamTeexle: Yeah, I do. Smile
DerkTollin: We talked for a couple of hours about absolutely nothing at all. And I've been thinking about her since.
DerkTollin: Like I said... she's really nice.
SamTeexle: What's her name?
DerkTollin: Lisa
DerkTollin: That's as far as we got, name-wise.
DerkTollin: It's been a while since I've had a date. It is tough to find the time when you have your own business.
DerkTollin: It really would be nice to go out with this one though.
SamTeexle: Yeah, I know what you mean. Smile
SamTeexle: Well, a note left on your table, and some bolded characters giving a message in your blog.. Seems like someone's trying to get your attention.
DerkTollin: Well, they (whoever they is) definitely have it. Your SN...
DerkTollin: It looks familiar.
SamTeexle: Well, it could look familiar for two reasons. One would be that I used this several years ago, and another is because it's an anagram of a name you've seen before.
DerkTollin: Ahh... okay.
DerkTollin: Max
SamTeexle: That's it. Smile I anagramed my name when I played a game called "Majestic" in 2001.
DerkTollin: Another person just IMd me.
DerkTollin: Another "helper"
SamTeexle: Oh, someone else noticed the characters, huh?
DerkTollin: It appears so.
DerkTollin: Oh, now they hav.
DerkTollin: have*
DerkTollin: It's hard going back and forth like this.
SamTeexle: Heh, you'll get used to it. Smile
DerkTollin: I pray that no one else comes on or I'm in trouble.
SamTeexle: haha
SamTeexle: Well, if the email you received was any indication of how many people are reading your blog, don't be surprised if more people start sending you messages through AIM. Smile
DerkTollin: I shudder at the thought.
DerkTollin: Is there an easier way to talk to everyone at once?
SamTeexle: Yeah, there is an irc server that most of the people visit.
SamTeexle: If you're aware of irc
DerkTollin: Okay... ummm...irc?
DerkTollin: no. sorry.
SamTeexle: Internet Relay Chat
DerkTollin: What is that?
SamTeexle: There are different channels to join, and you can have multiple people in a channel and chat at the same time with them.
DerkTollin: Oh... sounds much better then this.
DerkTollin: No offense to the person who told me about this, by the way.
DerkTollin: Smile
SamTeexle: I'll go ahead and make a channel called #avelon
DerkTollin: Sounds good. How exactly would I get there?
SamTeexle: Well, there are a couple of ways.
SamTeexle: You can do it via a web interface
SamTeexle: or you can use a program like mIRC
DerkTollin: Is there somewhere I can get this program?
SamTeexle: yeah, you can get it at http://www.mirc.com/get.html
SamTeexle: Just select on of the servers there.
SamTeexle: Once you get it, the irc server to use is irc.chat-solutions.org .
SamTeexle: Once you're on that server, you can type /join #avelon
SamTeexle: I can get the word out to everyone else about the channel, and people will meet up in there.
DerkTollin: Sounds kinda complicated.
DerkTollin: But I'll give it a shot.
DerkTollin: Downloading now.

The rest of the chat is me telling him how to set up mirc.

Thanks for the transcript!
Odd this talking about anagrams, I just thought before reading this that "Alison" could be an anagram for "no lisa" or "on lisa".
And here I go and read about a mysterious girl named Lisa Wink
Could of course also be "on sail", "no sail", well, there are different possibilities.

Okay, folks! Prepare for a big honkin' dump of Derk chatting with us over in #Avelon on IRC... and then a mysterious visitor, soon afterward. I've added a couple of comments, shown like:

-- This --
Here's that log.

Quote:

*** Now talking in #avelon
<JustLurking> which girl?
<DerkTollin> Okay, back.
<DerkTollin> There was a girl at "UNI" today. A new hire I suppose.
<DerkTollin> Never really saw her there before today.
<DerkTollin> And trust me when I say that she is hard to miss.
<DerkTollin> I mean that in a good way.
<DerkTollin> I didn't see her when I first got here this morning.
<DerkTollin> But then, well, it was like she just "appeared" before me.
<DerkTollin> Her eyes. Oh man, those eyes.
<DerkTollin> Sorry. It's been a while since I've been on a date.
<wisdomwarrior> have you asked around
<wisdomwarrior> got a name?
<DerkTollin> I sent someone to go get her before the employees went on their lunch break.
<DerkTollin> But she was gone.
<DerkTollin> I guess she went home for the day. Who knows.
<wisdomwarrior> did anyone else see this woman?
<JustLurking> awfully early to be going home for the day
<DerkTollin> Her name was Lisa. That's as far as we got regarding names during our talk.
<DerkTollin> Family emergency probably.
<DerkTollin> It happens all the time here.
<DerkTollin> Small town.
<DerkTollin> They all live near eachother.
<DerkTollin> That sort of thing.
<wisdomwarrior> how big is the town?
<DerkTollin> Not big at all... one of those "one Main. St. towns"
<DerkTollin> I guess that's the best way to describe it.
<DerkTollin> It's nice though.
<DerkTollin> Woudln't leave it for the world.
<wisdomwarrior> sounds like a nice place
<DerkTollin> Now, the apartment on the other hand.
<wisdomwarrior> i might have to check it out, if this woman is a knockout, im sure she is hard to miss in a small town lol
<XyzzySqrl> You'd ditch the apartment in a hurry?
<DerkTollin> Xy: at this point I might.
<DerkTollin> I'm not convinced that it's haunted yet.
<DerkTollin> I wasn't exactly all there this morning.
<DerkTollin> I could have just imagined it.
<JustLurking> but then how did you get the cut
<DerkTollin> But the message that people found... well, I don't know how to explain that.
<XyzzySqrl> Message? I missed something then.
-JustLurking- check the blog
<XyzzySqrl> Ah, I see now.
<wisdomwarrior> did you happen to notice if anything was taken or left during the last break-in?
<DerkTollin> Nothing was taken.
<DerkTollin> You mean this morning, right?
<wisdomwarrior> yeah
<DerkTollin> No, nothing was taken or left.
<wisdomwarrior> gotcha
<DerkTollin> When I go see my family, which should be shortly, I'll take some pictures of my town.
<wisdomwarrior> have the police been able to figure out the message left the other nite
<DerkTollin> Maybe that will give you a better idea of what it looks like.
<DerkTollin> Wisdom: Lol, you ask too much of them.
<DerkTollin> No. I had to tell them.
<XyzzySqrl> Woo, we're sharper than a small town police force.
<DerkTollin> That's why I'm glad I'm getting the extra help.
<wisdomwarrior> you said it sqrl
<DerkTollin> But I'm kind of debating the whole blog thing.
<DerkTollin> It seems to have caused this uprising.
<wisdomwarrior> how so Derk
<DerkTollin> Before it was just dreams.
<DerkTollin> And now all of this crap.
<DerkTollin> Sorry, I'm just getting sick of it all I guess.
<wisdomwarrior> Do you think starting the blog may tie into your problems?
<DerkTollin> I don't know yet.
<XyzzySqrl> This is the kind of thing you started it to document, though, no?
<XyzzySqrl> Maybe just not so directly.
<DerkTollin> Xy. Yes, but what if the "haunting" idea is correct. And this is just pissing whoever it is off?
<wisdomwarrior> Let us help Derk
<SuperguyA1> So if you didn't put the <strong>bold</strong> message in your blog then someone/thing else did, maybe we can commuunicate with them through the blog too
<wisdomwarrior> I don't believe in ghosts, and I don't think you are crazy.
<DerkTollin> How? By doing the same in return?
<SuperguyA1> maybe, or just through the comments
<DerkTollin> Hmmm... not a bad idea.
<XyzzySqrl> So far as pissing it off goes... I'd rather have some kind of certainty going.
<DerkTollin> I guess it would be better to know for sure what is going on before I try something.
<DerkTollin> But I don't see how it would hurt.
<wisdomwarrior> I would make sure not to make it angry tho
<DerkTollin> Then again, I didn't see how the blog would hurt either.
<SuperguyA1> well, I can't think of a faster/easier way to find out
<XyzzySqrl> So yeah, threatening bad, nonconfrontational good?
<SuperguyA1> maybe something simple like 'whomever now has our attention, is there a way we can reach you'
<MaxSteele> I don't think it's a ghost.
<MaxSteele> Ghosts don't leave notes on pads of paper on your table.
<wisdomwarrior> I tend to agree with MaxSteele
<wisdomwarrior> or use codes
<DerkTollin> Good point.
<MaxSteele> I think someone broke into your house and placed the note, and they got your password for your blog and edited it.
<DerkTollin> So back to original question then. What the Heck is going on?
<XyzzySqrl> I'm a bit skeptical as to the ghost angle as well. Cryptology and computer hackery sounds... more 1990s.
<wisdomwarrior> Are you sure you are telling us everything Derk?
<DerkTollin> Yeah.
<wisdomwarrior> now is the time to tell us everything you know
<DerkTollin> As much as I know.
<wisdomwarrior> nothing in your past?
<wisdomwarrior> enemies?
<DerkTollin> Well, I do run a business.
<DerkTollin> Not hard to make enemies that way.
<wisdomwarrior> any competition?
<XyzzySqrl> Suspicious folk from the computer lab trying to catch your passwords?
<DerkTollin> But I try to be fair.
<DerkTollin> No local competition.
<MaxSteele> Do you only log onto your blog from home?
<wisdomwarrior> have there been any recent firings there?
<DerkTollin> Max. Yes.
<DerkTollin> I don't like to fire.
<DerkTollin> It's the last thing that I'll do.
<DerkTollin> I'll move people around before I'll fire them.
<MaxSteele> Ok, so you couldn't have been logged in unattended at work
<DerkTollin> Well, before Stacy fires them, I should say.
<XyzzySqrl> Business partner?
<wisdomwarrior> Who is Stacy?
<DerkTollin> Stacy Koon... she does the hiring and firing for "UNI".
<MaxSteele> What does UNI stand for, anyway?
<DerkTollin> Unique Innovations.
<DerkTollin> The name of my business.
<MaxSteele> aah, ok.
<DerkTollin> It's just easier to say UNI then spell it all out all the time.
<wisdomwarrior> So you don't think it is anyone from work?
<DerkTollin> I don't see how they would get my password.
<DerkTollin> I don't use the blog at work.
<SuperguyA1> keylogger?
<DerkTollin> So no one can look over my shoulder.
<wisdomwarrior> In light of your morning, I wouldnt count anything out
<SuperguyA1> is it a good password?
<SuperguyA1> or something they might guess
<DerkTollin> good?
<DerkTollin> It's nothing that relates to me.
<DerkTollin> If that's what you mean.
<SuperguyA1> anything you would find in a dictionary?
<DerkTollin> Just random letters and numbers.
<SuperguyA1> that would be good:)
<XyzzySqrl> That's fairly secure.
<wisdomwarrior> Derk, you live in an apartment, right
<DerkTollin> yes.
<wisdomwarrior> Do you pay the rent on time?
<DerkTollin> yes.
<wisdomwarrior> Are you a good neighbor?
<DerkTollin> I'm never home... so, yes.
<wisdomwarrior> Are you the only with with access to your place?
<SuperguyA1> are you at home now?
<DerkTollin> Well, the landlord has a key. But that's it.
<DerkTollin> And we get along good.
<DerkTollin> Super: I'm at work right now.
<wisdomwarrior> No ex that might have a copy somewhere?
<SuperguyA1> when you get home, check your browser history and see if all of the times it accesed the blog are times you accessed the bog
<SuperguyA1> er blog
<DerkTollin> Wisdom: I don't like handing out my keys to girlfriends. I trust them, but I need my sleep.
<wisdomwarrior> Yeah, I can understand that.
<DerkTollin> Super: I'll try that... thanks.
<XyzzySqrl> It sounds like you're just Average Guy(TM) really. So... people holding a grudge, I'm not picking up on anyone who could be.
<DerkTollin> Neither can I.
<SuperguyA1> So far it doesn't seem like anything has been targeted at you. might jsut be a wrong place/wrong time thing
<DerkTollin> I just hope my family can shed some light on this "Alison" person.
<DerkTollin> I might go see them tomorrow.
<DerkTollin> In fact, I think I will. The sooner the better.
<SuperguyA1> if it makes you feel any better I now have the Elvis Costello song Alison stuck in my head
<SuperguyA1> at least it's a good song
<DerkTollin> Yeah, well, she's not leaving you notes.
<DerkTollin> Smile
<DerkTollin> singular I guess.
<SuperguyA1> heh
<DerkTollin> I'm kinda thinking that she might be the woman in my dreams.
<DerkTollin> Someone said that it's possible, so I'm considering it.
<SuperguyA1> yah I was wondering that, but then it makes it kindof hard to put aside the 'supernatural' thing
<XyzzySqrl> That'd be... romantic, if it weren't for the broken glass.
<DerkTollin> I don't know... it's all kind of confusing to me at this point in time.
<wisdomwarrior> well, even if you wanna consider something "supernatural", it doesnt mean that this has to be some sinister ghoul
<SuperguyA1> true
<SuperguyA1> it could be a friendly, 'mr. rogersesque' ghoul
<DerkTollin> Well, they did clean up.
<DerkTollin> Smile
<XyzzySqrl> That's looking on the bright side.
<SuperguyA1> so far it doesn't seem like you're in any physical danger so that's good
<DerkTollin> So far...
<SuperguyA1> Well, there's no reason to think that you are
<SuperguyA1> if something/one wanted to harm you they probalby would just do it.
<DerkTollin> Not yet... and not ever, I hope.
<SuperguyA1> and since they haven't I don't see why you should expect they will
<SuperguyA1> I forsee a happy ending, with some guy getting a mask pulled off and saying "I woulda gotten away with it if it weren't for you meddling kids!"
<DerkTollin> I thought he said that doesn't happen a lot here?
<DerkTollin> Second time, Max.
<SuperguyA1> Who said that?
<XyzzySqrl> What doesn't?
<DerkTollin> Max said the whole ping timeout thing doesn't happen a lot here.
<wisdomwarrior> oh
<DerkTollin> well, I really must be going. The employees have been back for a bit now.
<wisdomwarrior> thanks for you time Derk, I hope we can help you
<DerkTollin> I'll try one more time to find Lisa. I kinda like her.
<SuperguyA1> ok, have a good day. Keep us updated. I'm curious about the accesses to the blog
<SuperguyA1> Good Luck!
<XyzzySqrl> Take care, huh? Keep an eye out for weird notes.
<DerkTollin> Will do. Thanks again everyone for your help.

-- AIMLESS SPECULATION BEGINS, BUT STAY TUNED, BAT-FANS! --

<SuperguyA1> do we know what city derk is in?
<wisdomwarrior> Someone call Ghostbusters LOL
<SuperguyA1> there is no alizon, only zuul
<SuperguyA1> er alison
<XyzzySqrl> 'West Avelon' I think.
<SuperguyA1> what about state?
<XyzzySqrl> Unless that's just a small town.
<XyzzySqrl> ...I dunno about state.
<wisdomwarrior> Indiana I think
<SuperguyA1> ok
<SuperguyA1> that makes sense
<XyzzySqrl> Says he's in the middle of the US.
<SuperguyA1> it's one of the areas served by insightBB.com
<wisdomwarrior> so what does everyone think about Derk, is he crazy? can we help him?
<SuperguyA1> I guess we'll find out
<SuperguyA1> I don't think he's crazy
<SuperguyA1> he seems to consistant to be crazy
<SuperguyA1> *too
<XyzzySqrl> I'm thinking mind control by this Lisa, but I'm weird that way.
<wisdomwarrior> a woman controlling a man... thats not weird if you ask me
<XyzzySqrl> ...Bwaha. Okay, point.
<wisdomwarrior> we probably should have asked him more about his dreams
<wisdomwarrior> like when did they first start
<XyzzySqrl> We can probably catch him on AIM later. Or he'll be back.
<wisdomwarrior> true
<SuperguyA1> I was trying to avoid the dream thing, it seems like it freaks him out
<XyzzySqrl> Anybody get a full log to post?
<MaxSteele> I don't know if this world is big enough for two ghost hauntings with encrypted messages.. hehe
<wisdomwarrior> did you read his blog... i dont think he is freaked as much as wanna get freaky
<SuperguyA1> bow-chica-bowbow
<wisdomwarrior> just my two cents
<SuperguyA1> that's a good point
<wisdomwarrior> i honestly believe he isnt telling us everything
<XyzzySqrl> Heh, that's... interesting. It'd be nice to have someone not totally weirded out going through this.
<wisdomwarrior> out of fear or embarrassment
<SuperguyA1> maybe
<wisdomwarrior> and i doubt his local police force will be of any help
<XyzzySqrl> Really doubtful. Might even try to obscure things.
<wisdomwarrior> that has me thinking sqrl
<SuperguyA1> whenever there's trouble we're there on the double. We're the bloodhound gang.
<wisdomwarrior> its a small town
* SuperguyA1 things he's just showing his age
<MaxSteele> superguy: Those are in repeats too. Smile
<wisdomwarrior> yeah, its where i picked up all my detective skills
<wisdomwarrior> 321 contact
<SuperguyA1> yay
<wisdomwarrior> so anyone have any theories about whats going on?
<XyzzySqrl> My first thought is poltergeist activity or, as I said, some form of mental control making him do these things and forget them.
<wisdomwarrior> ghosts, drugs, mean exes, being P-whipped?
<wisdomwarrior> why him sqrl

sorry, but what IRC sever is this on?

EDIT: comment by derk on his blog in rot-23 says, "Please wake up, Derk. God, why can't you hear me? Why can't you understand what I am trying to tell you? I'm sorry they did this too you. But you need to wake up. Somebody help me help him. I shouldn't be here now. They might catch me. I think that they already know I'm trying to contact you, Derk. I care about you too much to lose you now. Please wake up, Derk. For those who are trying to help: my e-amil is not what you think. I will give you more later. I must go now, before they catch me. Alison"

Erm, well, considering it also refers to Seen James, odds are, yes, it is just an aside

We solved it right there in chat, a little under that part.

"Help me help him. He doesn't know."

Looks like fun Very Happy

Also, new blog post for June 3rd. Bolded letters read 'It was nice to see you yesterday Alison.' Could this be Derk's first attempt at direct contact?

I'm thinking either it's that, or...

"It was nice to see you yesterday - Alison"

As in, from her, signed Alison. Could be either. (It's probably Derk though.)

A Day Away

Given the recent events (as wierd as they were), I have decided that it was best for me to take a day off from running my business and visit my parents upstate, in Chicago. Since some of you have been asking about where I live, I have decided to take some pictures of my area. I'll either upload them or maybe I'll just e-mail them to you. I'll have to see how tired I am when I return. I should be back around 11pm CST. Oh, and yes, I'll also be sure to ask them about "Alison", just so you know. Hopefully they will be able to tell me more about her, if anything at all.

Until then...

And the bolded letters say

Did anyone send derk an email to ask him? I think it has to be from Alison though, Derk hasn't seen her at all.

Hasn't he seen her every night? In his dreams? Now he's starting to believe in her and is communicating back in the same way.
