Hey, Varin, did you want to meet for dinner or something beforehand? Any of y'all? That might be kinda fun, and um, you all can fill me on stuff I am still learning very quickly.

Ya we can meet up! The other guys were talking about trying to meet up early in chat last night too. Did you get a specific assignment?

Yep, I have to look at the "artwork plans."

I'm looking at the SD card compendium on stolena3, but I am not exactly sure what I am supposed to be focusing on. I know you've got forgers, so what plans, exactly, am I supposed to bring printouts of? Well, I'll keep perusing, I guess!

Lou, you said 6 PM. That sounds pretty good, I think. A good two hours for dinner, frivolity and recon, and then an hour to get down to the marina.

I gotta do some laundry, man.

Hmm, why wouldn't your acceptance email be showing in Nisha's inbox like the others?

I just sent her a photo this morning. I was too tired when I got home last night to a) take a pic, or b) find a good one to send.

Smile

So, it should be up soon. I also got another call from the bts people, asking for a jacket size, and to make sure I got the confirmation and stuff.

Since a lot of people have asked - here is the link to my #heist log. I started it at noon edt on saturday. I had some minor client problems at the end, so thanks to everyone who provided me with the recap during my offline time.

Everything was a little overwhelming so hopefully I don't miss anything. I only took a handful of pictures because there weren't really many photo opportunities.

Part I:

The weather was pretty bad so just as we were leaving the restaurant Mattazuma got a call from Nisha saying that Gunter had pushed back the meeting and we would meet at 10:30. Afterward we realized we weren't really sure if that meant we were meeting Gunter at 10:30 which meant we would be meeting Nisha at 9:30 or just meet Nisha at 10:30. We decided to wait until 10:30 to show up, figuring they couldn't start without us and would most likely call one of us if we were late. We also didn't want to show up too early and ruin anything. So we wasted some time at Mattazuma's place and met Matt's lovely ARGwidow. Finally, we set off for the marina....

We were still a bit early so we drove around to check out the place. It was pretty much your typical creepy abandoned industrial area. I was really glad I wasn't on a solo mission (poor Lou). As soon as we saw Nisha's Audi pull into the marina we drove on in. We pulled up right next to her and the game was instantly on. She got out of the car and started looking around in full paranoia mode. She told us we were waiting for someone and thanked us for being so brave. She gave us LRR pins and told us to put them on so Gunter would see that we're a team. Finally at some point Oak, the video tech guy, showed up. He had some jackets that were wired with video cameras. Mattazuma, Gatekeeper and krystyn all looked fairly normal and believable in their jackets. Mine was a big, long black trench coat...in Chicago... in June... on an incredibly humid day. Yeah, I don't look like I'm hiding anything. While we were getting wired up, Nisha explained that Gunter could be dangerous, but he was more of a knife kind of guy rather than a gun kind of guy. Great. Maybe this thick black trench coat will protect me from his piercing blade. Some guy wearing a hip old man hat walked by and staring menacingly at us and walked away quickly. He didn't look like the typical late night marina party-goer. I'm wondering now if they purposely had some people walk around and look suspicious to give us that paranoia "feel".

We walked over to the dock and sat down. We chatted a bit about the Heist and Ian and anything else we could come up with to avoid uncomfortable silence. Nisha was looking around all paranoid still. I'll admit that I was starting to feel genuinely paranoid myself. Nisha went over and yelled at Lou. Then we all sat there looking around all paranoid some more. We're all watching for a car to pull up or some guy named Justin to walk up to us. Both Mattazuma (or was it Gatekeeper?) and I said something about how we should also watch the river in case he arrives by boat. Not 3 seconds later a boat starts to pull up. It's starts to play "Für Elise" (get it? We didn't get the joke until Gunter clued us in later - "Für Elise"...."For a lease".)

Anyway, we weren't sure at first if the boat was Gunter or not. Then I noticed that the name of the boat was "Justin E" or something. Justin! We're meeting Justin! Then someone notices that the guy on the boat has black and white face paint kinda like a zombie and a top hat. Then Gunters starts creepily saying Niiiiiisshaaaaa...... Niiiiiiiiissssshhhhhaaaaa. Woo! This is when things started to get good. Smile

Part II (most of this can be found on the wiretap):

Gunter got off the boat and looked surprised that we were with Nisha. He was coughing "blood" all over his handkerchief. Nisha commented on the blood on his hands and he said something about him not being the only one with "blood on his hands". I was starting to wonder if we really knew what Nisha is capable of. He didn't want us to be there, but finally agreed to let us come with. I stood up from my chair and I felt a tug. I looked down and the wire from the camera was on the ground with my foot on top of it. I stopped and sat back down and tried to fix things. I don't think I pulled the wire out of the camera, but there's a good chance that I didn't film anything beyond that point. Embarassed

Once on the boat, Gunter made lots of comments that made it seem like he was planning to kill us and dump us in the river. I figured we could take him Wink So we were supposed to be "quizzing" Gunter and I was just kinda standing there not knowing what to do. I didn't know if we'd be given a signal to start or if we were supposed to interrupt. He kept ranting on and on about deaths and weird stuff and I just stood there with my right shoulder out trying to get a good picture just in case my camera was still working. Finally, Gunter went into the cabin and we made the plan to try to be really nice to him. I was all prepared to be nice to the poor sick man, but then he asked for krystyn and then my pin. Nisha had made a big deal in the beginning about how we should make sure our pins are visible so that Gunter would know that we're a team. So when he wanted mine I refused. In hindsight I guess I could have offered it to him to get on his good side. Oh well.

So just when Gunter started to sound a little bit sane and tell us that he didn't know who his bosses were he went into the cabin and crooned out Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. He rambled on for awhile longer and finally we got to start asking him questions. I had memorized some of the background on the forgers, but brought along the printed out version just in case. Turns out neither really mattered much. In the panic of the moment with a sick Gunter coughing in my face my mind pretty much went blank and it was too dark to really read much. As everyone has already picked up from the audio the "big reveal" from the questioning was Szigmond Erdlemann being in Seattle. He mentioned his name in the beginning, then said that Szigmond was "sleepless" when I questioned about him. I really didn't pick up on that until afterwards otherwise I would have pushed for more information about Szigmond rather than asking about the other forgers. Overall I got the feeling that Gunter and Nisha were closer at one point, maybe even involved.

Finally, Gunter got pissed off enough that he forced us off his boat. We found the nearest street and by an amazing stroke of luck found a driver with a van that could be paid off to drive us back to the marina. Wink Nisha complained alot about the humidity and started taking off layers of clothes. It wasn't *that* hot. I mean, I was still in that black trenchcoat and was just mildly uncomfortable. So maybe that was done for the benefit of the guys. Smile Either that, or she caught whatever Gunter has and was getting a little feverish. Shocked We got back to the marina, pulled in through the gate a saw Lou again. Poor Lou. Nisha laid into him again. She thanked us for our services and sent us off with new Treos. Yay!

Here's a text file for those who are fans of the word-wrap.

Lou's write up

Ian asked me for a post-op report, and this is what I've sent him. Of course it is embelished and I added some info I gleaned from the retrievers.

Quote:
Ian,

Yes, yes, I know. A port-o-potty. Not one of my finer moments. Seemed like a good idea at the time.

Anyway, when I saw Nisha pull up, I had just returned to the marina yard after seeing a cop car arrive on scene. I figured that someone called the cops because of this weird guy who had been roaming the marina (me) for 3.5 hours. Anyway, I notice her Audi, and I quickly try to mix in with some of the folks carousing at the mexican social club. When she met with the group, I couldn't get any good shots, but I saw what was going on. The guy that Virgil recommended was fitting them with jackets of some sort. It struck me as weird because the rain had stopped and it was kind of warm out.

For a while I just kind of "hid in plain sight" and tried not to look too sketchy. The social club guys had been giving me weird looks for a few hours, so I probably did look sketchy anyway. Nisha was really hardcore about her shiftiness and was constantly looking around and pacing around the area. She spotted me when I tried to get a picture of her with the group from around a corner. Her and Krystyn (judging by the photo on StolenA3.com) came over to me and Nisha copped an attitude and confronted me.Like you said, I played dumb and the exchange was approximately like this:

N: Can I help you?
L: What?
N: Can I help you!?
L: What are you talking about?
N: Wait a minute, where did you get that phone?
L: I bought it. What do you care?
N: Very funny.
L: Yeah, I'm a regular comedian, lady.
N: That's a treo, and it's got a camera on it. Were you trying to take my picture?
L: I have no idea what you are talking about. You're pretty paranoid.
N: It just seems all too convenient, you here...with one of those (points to treo).
L: What can I tell you? I'm waiting for a friend.
N: You don't know what you're doing, you better get out of here.
L: Whatever.

During this exchange, Krystyn was by Nisha's side. But she was...posing...strangely. I think the retrievers may have had surveillance equipment in those jackets that Virgil's guy gave them. So one of the other retrievers come walking past me, kind of doing the same thing. When he walked past, he squared his shoulders up to me just a bit without saying anything, and that sealed my suspicion. They must have had cameras in those jackets.

At that point, I went to the far end of the social club to try to stay out of sight, but still be able to tell if anyone arrived or if Nisha and the retrievers went on the move. I saw Nisha get up and start towards an area where she could have pinned me in, so I made way to the port-o-potty (PoP) thinking that I wouldn't be seen in there. I didn't see Nisha walk by, but while I was in there, I realized that it's a decent stake location because the little window at the top of the PoP was pointing right to the only (land-based) entrance to the marina. From the PoP, I would be able to see anyone coming or going, while remaining out of sight.

The meeting time with Gunther had passed, so I got out of the PoP and went to try to get a glimpse of the team. They were gone. That's when I knew I had blown it. They must have left by boat. The delay was obviously due to the weather and not being able to take a boat out in the violent thunderstorm. But I was expecting Gunther to come in the land-based entrance to the marina, and, while covering that area, missed them leaving on the boat. Figuring that I had missed my chance, I called a cab, and stepped out of the PoP (which I ended up using as an office to stay out of sight) right into the headlights of a minivan carrying Nisha and the retrievers. My timing could not have been worse. I was caught like a dear in the headlights. So Nisha approached me again:

N: What are you still doing here?
L: My friend never showed and I'm calling a cab. Do you mind?
N: this place is closed, why haven't you left yet?
L: It's not closed. Some guys are still here. Hear the music?
N: [scowls]
Krystyn: Some friend you have.
L: [throws hands up] What can I do?

After this brief exchange, I went back to the social club and called a cab to get back to my hotel. I left the phone for Willie at the concierge, and went to bed, as I had to leave the hotel at 5am to catch my flight home.

Finally, a random thing I noticed was that all the retrievers were carrying papers...like files of some sort. I have no idea what that was all about, though. Also, because I missed the boat (literally and figuratively) I didn't get a look at Gunther, his associates or the boat they were on.

Again, I apologize for being such a bumbling idiot. I hope any of this information is useful to you in figuring out just what the hell is going on.

Good luck and take care,
Lou

That's just the bare bones explanation. That's leaving out some stuff:
- getting soaked by the thunderstorm
- the delirium of boredom setting in after waiting for 4 hours
- pictures not going through at the end of the night due to problems with Sprint's picture server
- all of the funny port-o-potty jokes that are in the chat log
- and of course, how ridiculously gorgeous Nisha is in person...like, WOW!

I'm sure I'm leaving out some details. I think I got just about everything in the chat, so check the chat log for more. Or post a reply with a question for me here.

Ha! that's awesome, cool you got to see another side of the game.

You probably could've gotten away with just totally hitting on her or something like just another schmuck. That would've felt great in character! lol
