[PUZZLE|SOLVED] Strips of text on Morgan Paranormal webpage

The 15 BMP images on the main Morgan Paranormal webpage (30/05/2005) were strips of text that were aligned to form the following text:

Thanks to Ursos for providing a better image: Smile

Here's what I got, same thing:

[EDIT]: Forgot a strip in the file (makes the "f" of "fools" more defined), so I added it and updated the image.

DrewBear said in chat that he destegged 1.bmp with the password "narcissus" to get a file titled "a1.txt" which contained only the letter "v" as a result. I tried this myself, but the password wasn't working for me... Did anyone else get this? Drew, did I get something wrong? I was going to upload the 15 .bmp files to the forums but they don't accept .bmp files.

From the bmp's on Morgan's site we uncamoflagued the bmp files into text files. And ended up with a letter for each file. Using narcissus (no caps) as the pw.

The letters from files 1-15...in that order are... v, a, o, l, z, p, u, v, m, c, h, u, p, a, f

Randy rotted those letters and came up with "othesinofvanity" which is... O! The sin of vanity.

http://www.freewebs.com/morganparanormal/othesinofvanity.htm

From there...we used the strips on Morgan's web site unshredded "lord what fools these mortals be" as the key in vignere translating from othesinofvanity site...

You realize, of course, that patience has the soul of a waiter.

And by this I mean he is courteous and eager to please, for, should he not be, now where would it get him? Why, then he should simply have to wait longer!

I am certainly not a creature of limitless endurance but I do know where my satisfaction lies.

It lies beside the mirror, practicing its cadence. It lies beside that little boy.

O imperfect reflection!

O whole that is but half!

Tonight you shall meet your master, for I have seen the eyes that long to see. It is through this small crystalline gaze that I shall then be free!

I mean, that my heart unto yours is knit

So that but one heart we can make of it

Shall I play you a tune, small thing, while you sleep? Shall I stroke your hair? Or might you then think me a mother hen, with no more means of care?

And what perfection lies beside you?

What reflection tries to hide you from my waiter's eyes?

O whole that is but half!

And now you wake!

O then, small thing, can you see me?

Ah, but you can…

Do you like my music, what shall I play for you, half of my half?

Shall I sing you a song of the joy that waist when half and half are one?

Or would you simply like a gift?

Ah here! A sweet for such a sweet gift that has been bestowed to me by luck! Take, take it my boy, its only candy after all!

What harm is there, when it is so sweet? [spoiler]

Alright, so I've tried that on a few of the files I've got and none will desteg... I dunno what you all are doing differently, but my question is this: do all of the files that contain those letters have filenames like a1.txt, a2.txt, a3.txt, etc? I remember the first one that Drew got before he left was a1.txt. Just wondering if they all follow suit and we're not missing some other clue.

... seeing as this is the thread that lead us to /othesinofvanity.htm...

A few notes on /kingfair.mid (or what's on the page, but didn't show on my computer, because I think that my computer is on crack ><)

Which I can listen to in.... 5 minutes. Damnit, I want it now! I want it all now! Muahahaha!!

... ahem.

Uh, so. I'll... wait, and listen, and see what happens.
~Mossy, the deprived

PS-

Edit: teehee, I can hear it now, and my cat looks pissed off at me, 'cause she can hear it too, and she was sleeping.

According to this crappy-looking website (ah well, its the first one that came up on Google search, and I'm sorta pressed for time, 'tis a "traditional Irish" tune. http://sdcml.homestead.com/music.html

'kingfair' is the name of the file, but the song name is actually 'King of the Fairies'. (http://www.dnaco.net/~mobrien/irishptr/iresongs/kingfair.html) And we all know who that is. Smile Well, I guess it could also be Oberon.

I dunno, I thought it was interesting,

I went back through and uncamoflagued all of the files...
Each file has the same as what Drew mentioned.
a1.txt...a2.txt...a3.txt.... and so on.
Didnt see anything else dealing with the files.

Hope this helps Ursos. Smile

Just wanted to mention....

On the unencrypted message from the site.... othesinsofvanity,
One line is repeated twice..."O whole that is but half!"

Also, googled everything and only found one thing recognizable...

The two lines..." I mean, that my heart unto yours is knit
So that but one heart we can make of it"

These are from Midsummer Nights Dream, said by Lysander.

Lysander didnt work on Morgans site as a new lead.

Just FYI for everyone

Heh, Mossy, that site looks to be run by a M O'Brien.

And... I'm an O'Brien... hence the Obes.

Looks like TTM really is one of the Irish Faeryfolk.

Darn it.

OHHHHH.. and

Do you like my music, what shall I play for you, half of my half?

Shall I sing you a song of the joy that waist when half and half are one?

Or would you simply like a gift?

Doesn't make sense. 'Waist' - it doesn't fit in. Waste.. or waits.. maybe just a typo.

Obes. Twisted Evil

Teehee. My lute teacher is Patrick O'Brien... and so was the author of the Master & Commander series. Heh. I'm glad to (formally) meet another one.
