Hmmm....well begrudgingly, perhaps.

Personally, i think my opinion is still that if this is the correct answer, then the question was wrong! It's a very poor riddle, at best. Lets hope they're better than this in Future! (no pun intended)

But hey, not to take anything away from mattlock for some great deductive work. Three cheers etc.

*** spec of drama ***

So Violet goes to type in the answer and it's either wrong, or she hits a typo. The recon musclemen swoop down and extract her from the scene and interrogate her. Realizing they have Sente's daughter, and she is spying, they demand information from her, and then from her father at the academy.

Now Sente is in a fix. Can he resist the temptation to rescue her by brute force?

Meanwhile, just as Scarlett gets to be in the spotlight for once her older sister has to go and ruin it by getting captured by the Recons.

. . .

exactly, I think this is the point of the puzzle - that whatever we'd come up with Violet would have said one was the answer and now it'll turn out to be wrong in order for the story to progress dramatically. I wouldn't slap a [SOLVED] on it until it works!

Hmm, I would say it is [SOLVED].

Violet has accepted that particular answer (which, for the record, I think is the answer) and that to me means any more speculation or puzzling is unnecessary.

It could be wrong, thats true, but we have provided an answer - end of puzzle. Even if it is wrong, its still "solved" - thats the one she is using.

Anything else is just quibble.

In my humble opinion, that is Smile

But if you feel strongly that this thread should be kept open i.e. not [SOLVED], then I will happily change it to something less... solved Smile .

But in that case, why is it [SOLVED] with Archer?! Why not Fish, or Cheese, or Hatstand, or Armadillo, or Dingo's Kidneys???

So what you are saying is, it is solved because we got it wrong? I'm confused Confused

But we have a right answer though! Not sure if this question is to me or violet? I thought wintermute_au gave the full reason why it is "Archer" (bold by me to answer specific question) :-

Quote:
Its simply that the words and the signs are related -- either because the words fit together as a common phrase, or theres some image that links the two...

This actually makes them work slightly better as a puzzle, because if you knew the futures signs and recognised their order, you'd be able to get the links.

So each of the words represents a sign, and so it's a sign thats missing, not just some other word (that would be even more stupid, as it could be any associated word)... If we break away from the suffix/prefix idea it's actually much easier to cope with the answer.

That is contradictory to what Violet (our Violet that is, not PPCs Smile) is saying, and what other people have said.

We have two scenarios here:
a) Archer is the right answer - Hey presto, Violet opens the door, then has three minutes to win a crystal or she gets locked in (or whatever).
b) Archer is the wrong answer - Violet gets caught, smacked over the head with a wet fish, and led away to spend the rest of her life rotting in a dungeon (or whatever).

So, by definition, both a) and b) cannot be true. So which is it? Do i need to start a poll or something? Wink

To be honest, it doesn't really matter what we think now, or whether Archer is or is not the answer - our task was to give Violet an answer and we have - this isn't like the 24 digit malarkey where people spec and spec and spec ad nauseum.

Violet has made her choice and is probably typing it as we speak (well, type).

Personally, I think (a) will happen, and we get access to the website. (b) would be cool though too, as we try and free violet from across the ether...

So, no poll required. To be honest again (wow, twice in one post) Archer IS the right answer - it just fits. I appreciate its possibly not the best of fits, but its a word puzzle, and therefore always open to interpretation.

Has anyone a better solution?

Eureka! That's it! We have to find a way to integrate the 24 digit number into this thing.

I think my problem isn't that Archer isn't the answer, but that just because Violet has accepted it as the right one (seemingly because she hadn't thought of it herself) it doesn't automatically make it the answer to the puzzle. We have to wait and see what she says. I'm not arguing that it's wrong because that would be pointless, I think the part people have a problem with is that it could be a clumsily written puzzle. Either:

a) because the script says Violet gets captured by the Recons/types in the wrong answer

or

b) it's the right answer.

If b) then I'll be pretty cross at the clumsy puzzle-writing skills of those at MC, because I was under the impression that the puzzle would have an answer that would make perfect and total sense, not just sort-of-fit-in-a-roundabout-way.

Okay our Violet, I see your logic. Don't agree with it, but I see it Smile

Therefore, have changed title to "Untested Solve" which hopefully represents accurately the thread status.

I still stand by my thoughts above, but as I don't take nuthin personal, then I'm still a happy bunny! Smile

good, because it's not personal to anybody. I'm not objecting to the [SOLVED], as I said, I wouldn't put it on, but others might. I'm perfectly aware that it's probably the right answer due to the general concensus, I was simply voicing my opinion that it's not fully solved until Violet tries it. As was said before:

I was just wondering why the recons would capture/kidnap Violet. What do they have to gain from it?

They can't get the cube from the academy, as they dont have it.

She can't get any information from the key without Kurt's hacking, so she can't "Know too much".

Surly if they want links in the academy they would try and sway her belifs rater than force. Its not like Violet might be in charge of the Academy in the future either. Shes never been a studen there, she just a Librarian.

Just a thought or two. My theory is that a Recon will use the dummy key and realise its a fake. This will start almost a civil war as Recons blame each other, making them a much more deadly foe.

Can I put forward a motion for the thread title to be changed to [UNTESTED SOLVE PERHAPS...?], to reflect the procrastination involved?

*slaps himself*

We are all fools!!

I hadn't even bothered to check the facts against what Violet was saying.
It can NOT be archer. Archer isn't the only missing sign.

The Dice, The three balls, The Maze, and even the Apple thief are absent.. so why would Archer be any different from these signs?

Violet is gonna get busted =) *snickers*

i.e
Archer - ?
Dice - ?
Three Balls - ?
Apple Thief - ?
Maze - ?
