Greatest American Go here to vote. Come on, people, we can't let George W. Bush or Ronald Reagan win this thing.
Vote for someone who actually deserves it, like King Bush's namesake who, when asked to accept the crown, graciously and heroically declined.

Because, you know, everybody reading this must be "smart enough" to know not to vote for those two, right?

OK, seriously....on the nominations, we have presidents, scientists, statesmen, athletes, civil rights leaders, etc. and.......Oprah?!?!?!?!?!
No Uma? Or is she Canadian (which explains why Jamesi's not on the list, btw)?
Seriously, Oprah? Where's Dr. Phil, man?

Okay, isn't Albert Einstein GERMAN?
We can't just abduct other countries' successful figures! (when I pointed this out to my best friend, he replied - sarcastically - "Of course we can... we're AMERICA!")

That is funny.
If you want, I will accept a massive write-in campaign for myself. I consider myself to be America's Laziest, um... Something.
I feel I deserve a spot somewhere in America's Greatest People-Types somewhere at least above the 403,235,303,233.35 mark. (I'm not sure if the show will get that in-depth to the list though, so watch for my massive online campaign soon!)

Dude, one of the most powerful cultural forces in this country is a black woman. I love the concept of Oprah, even though her show and her person annoy the heck out of me. It gives me faith that the well-intentioned will eventually win out over the idiots. Even...if...it...takes...forever....

Did anyone see the Greatest Canadian vote that the CBC was doing a while back? I dunno whether this American version is just copying it or doing something new, but the CBC got Canadians from all walks of life to give heartfelt speeches/letters/poems/films to show their support for candidates. I can't find anything on the American site that shows they're doing the same, so if anyone knows, do tell! Anyways, the Canadian results were interesting:
Tommy Douglas got First. He's the guy who introduced universal Medicare to Canada, and stuck to socialist civil liberty policy while weathering anti-Communism and backlash from a lot of the rest of the country. Second was Terry Fox, who ran across Canada to raise money for cancer - and he ran with a fake leg that replaced the one he had amputated. Third was Pierre Trudeau, a politician and prime minister who created such a fervor with the public that the term "Trudeamania" was coined to describe it. He got Canada its own Constitution and got Queen Elizabeth II to proclaim the patriation of the British North America Act.
I wonder what sort of accomplishments the Greatest Americans will have, and if the sorts of things people appreciate enough to vote for will be comprable in scope.
Incidentally, Stve, Dr. Phil -is- a nominee - he's just not in the top 25. People can still vote for him.

...oh. Well... nevermind then. *shifty eyes*
(I wasn't really that bothered... but it did seem kinda funny). I've already voted... I'm kind of nervous to see who'll get it.

Incidentally, Einstein was German by birth, but considering the reasons he had to leave, I don't think he would have considered himself "abducted."

Oprah I can handle. Dr. Phil, on the other hand, is going WAY TOO FAR.
I nominate the man who invented air conditioning, whoever he was.
