Sandman Exclusive Forum

Hello,

Is there any way we could set up an exclusive Sandman forum?
One that you had to use a password to enter or something?
I think that would help a lot in our fight against the runners.

I would think that, in the spirit of Unfiction, a passworded forum is probably off limits and a dilution of the point of the community. How about a sandman-run email discussion list? Who knows, maybe the PMs will provide a place for sandmen to discuss and associate.

I think we should avoid total secrecy, but I do strongly believe that this game will be a lot more fun if not everything is discussed way out in the open.

Obviously, things that affect and concern all players should be discussed in the open. Things in the interest of seperate teams may have more flavor if some of as actually are in the dark, as opposed to everybody knowing everything, and pretending to be in the dark, but I will never try to enforce any secrecy on anyone, its just my personal thought. The PMs and the mods can decide who has gone over a line:)

These forums are for open cooperation and collaboration. You'll either have to convince the PMs to create such a closed forum for you, or find some other place for it. Sorry.

There are ton of free forums available for you to create. Just create one thats private and hand out the link here. I already have a forum set up somewherethat I dont use. I could give up the password for it and let someone else here take it over to turn it into the sandman private forum if anyone is interested.

The important thing to remember would be that just because we (MAY BE) on teams(who knows, maybe we'll all end up runners) doesnt mean we should suddenly stop helping each other, either.
Even when using a private sandman forum, or a private runner forum, we should not forget that the open collective is still there for us, and we should be there for it, contributing on anything that is not intended to be private. I dont want to see any acrimony between players coming up because of "secrecy". If it gets too crazy then I'll walk on the game rather than let a bunch of people become unraveled about the way I play it.

Let's all stay one big happy helpful group, just not afraid to take sides now and then, its all for the spirit of the game. If roleplay is important, we should seperate meta and in-game realities beyond "I know it, but I'll say I dont".

Just always ask yourself, which is better for the spirit of this game, sharing or not. Lets not be too secretive, we've always been here to help each other, and I will continue to do so barring anything that will directly effect my ability to participate in the game.

I guess what I mean to say is that I hope that there is room in the collective philosophy here for some degree of secrecy, if it is in the interest of enhancing the intended fun factor of the game. I dont want to be seen as "breaking the Unfiction rules" while playing this game...Secrecy for personal gratification, power-gaming or for gloating purposes should be frowned upon.

Guys, this is insane. We don't need a forum dedicated specifically to us just because we figured out a puzzle first. This is a community game. We're all on the same team (for now). Once people figure out the SRI puzzle, we'll have more collaboration. Let's not change the way these types of games are supposed to be run. Have fun...together.

Not everyone is trying to figure out the SRI puzzle, not everyone got the email. I believe that two (three maybe) sides are forming, and in case it may become some sort of war, we might want secrecy. Im not saying we dont help eachother, but just in case we ever need to plan something, i think it may be helpful for us to be able to surprise enemies. I am in no way wanting to not help out the other players, but i think that in the spirit of this game, it may be a good idea.

I highly doubt that this game is going to turn into a war among the players.

At least, I really hope not.

Well, not WAR, but teams playing different sides of the same coin.
You dont get a story without protagonist and antagonist. I think it would be an interesting change, as opposed to 80 people trying to ride the same horse..lets have a little competition. Theres no money, no prizes, just competition for fun. Dont you agree?Smile

The players who hav'nt had the SMHQ Email can't use the code to get into the SRI site cause their movements are reported back to Mother Computer and they are at risk of termination, it says so at the bottom of the SRI screen after you log in with the SRI code.

So we don't need separate forums, cause we can't cheat and jump a stage cause Mother Computer won't allow us too.

Other players might get another email to access another part of the site, like The Cathedral, if we (as designated Sandmen) use the codes they decipher and log in, then we will get into trouble.

So lets keep this open and help each other out, but only try accessing what we have authorization for.

I hope so! Conflict seems to be the only exciting thing about ARG, right? Peace-loving hippies spreading the love through collaborative, cooperative means should be burned at the stake, man!

All snarkiness aside, many of us have been witnesses to what happens when player is pitted against player in an all out ARG smackdown (both in- and out-of-game). It's not pretty, nor is it very productive. I commend UF for taking a consistent stand against pettiness and hostility.

i'm all for a little competition but to me judging from the last coby3 email becoming a sandman might be what they want us all to do at first.
but anyway it's just to early into the game to be sure what they have planed for us. so i'm going to say let's not start splitting up just yet, let's wait untill we have a better understanding of how this game is played. and then if warrented we can choose sides. just my 2 cents.
