[Spec] The mental attitudes of Perplexians combined with the latest scarlett post, something thats been gelling in my mind has come ot the forefront. they are a VERY trendy society. They seem to literally hunger for our culture, simply becuase its new. Shoes were a big deal. Scarlett speaks in teen/valley speak, which shes probably picked up from the web here that she has access to, becuase of novelty. the big problem with driverless autos here is that people wont trust them, we tend not to trust anything new. the ppc people have no such hangups, they embrace new things.
anyone else have other aspects of ppc society and the way they think? understanding them will help, in the long run.

It is indubitably true that we have received a wealth of information from Earth over the last several years, and it would be ridiculous to suggest that there are Academics toiling away at creating entire libraries of literature and popular culture in order to satiate our own city's thirst for new and interesting concepts .
Now there can be no doubt that Perplexians have a huge "thirst" for novelty.
Edit:
One thing still caughts my attention: Since they used to have photographs in the past and now they use drawings... Could we suggest that they also enjoy art, not only science? Do they make their own drawings?

We've seen several examples of intelligence being considered trendy/cool/admirable/etc. The fact that the Academy Games has such a high profile says a lot about how Perlexians see 'intelligence' as a personality trait. This is quite unlike the 'geeky' connotations it has in our society. Could this be a product of their advanced evolution? Given say another 100 years could we see a similar shift in our society's attitude?
Wild spec: We don't know the average intelligence of a Perplexian, but let's for a moment pretend they are about the same 'IQ' level as us here, the people searching for the Cube on Earth. (Yes, I would almost go as far to say that some people on here are intelligent (not me tho) ) Are we not displaying the same level of "thirst for new and interesting concepts" about Perplex City as the residents themselves are about Earth? Maybe the reason Sente has looked to us for help is because we share a similar level of intellect and 'thirst' that an average Perplexian does.

IMHO..Me thinks Sente and the others at the Academy are trying to get their cube back in the most ingenious way they could have ever come up with. Ok ..so say I lose a hugemongous diamond ring (with special powers that only I know about).. somewhere in Perplex City... and I want desperately to get it back. Who in Perplex City is going to care about my diamond ring? No one. But what if I told em exactly what those special powers were? They'd probably try to find and keep it for themselves. So I chose to keep in mysterious, but reveal enough that it intrigues some people. Those people are a fantastic bunch of people that participate in crazy ARG's on their own time, for no other benefit than to have fun and solve puzzles. I say (if I were Sente) .. I'd skip the government ... skip the police... skip a P.I. I'm gonna give those ARGers some puzzles to do and let them have some fun in their quest to find my giganormous diamond. And then well... maybe I throw in a reward of some sort at the end. ... and then maybe I'll tell them what special powers are in my fantabulous diamond. IMHO.

that is one of the best theorys i've heard so far.
the people from perplex city lost their cube. if they just contacted earth to say, 'hey, we lost it, can you find it for us?' , face it, few people in today's society would actually help.
so instead sente needs to find a good way to get people to help him. he contacts adrian and others to help him set up a way that will actually draw people in to help him. all of us here are doing this to play an arg, correct? well this is they are getting us to help them.
(just expanding)

The Perplexians are obviously interested in puzzles and riddles. They value intelligence over everything else. When combined with the above theory it males it obvious that they would recruit Hon to help them, Hon is amzingly bright. They probably find him impressive. But the problem with the theory lies in what helps it: If Adrian Hon is so bright that they respect his intelligence greatly, why do they use him to run thier ad campaign rather than aid in the search?

Yes they do - all cultures.
So far the powers that the cube do not include telepathy or telekinesis that we know of. But it does seem to provide knowledge. If it also let them see into other worlds - then integrating the best technology of the new worlds discovered would become a way of life for them.
If it slowly developed that shoe patterns(other novelties discovered) were being sold by academy members to the general public - or using them for there own purposes - it would folow that someone would want to stealo the cube to monopolize that trade.
THey have murder, so I figure any negative trait we humans have the Perplex City citizens will like have also.
But, I tend to ramble . . .

I think that the mind set of PPC can be summed up in under a sentence:
Nerd concentration camp.
Seriously, they like shiny new things, value intellegence over everything else... It's like their world shoved all the nerds into a city, and barracaded them off. =P

he is helping them in the search, by gathering a team of people do join it.
wouldnt it be more efficient to have hundreds of people looking for the cube together, instead of just a couple? thats what they're 'hiring' hon to do, make an arg to get the support sente needs.

Not sure if you are interested but... Wasn't sure where to post this (sorry I am new to this whole thing)... but found an interesting wee quote...
"In GO, the oriental game of strategy and tactics, "sente" means competitive initiative: the player with sente makes the moves that control the game."

This has been discused in the pre-game threads: Perplex City: Project Syzygy Pre-Game .
You can look for it here: The root meaning of sente

I speculated in one of the ScarlettKite threads that the replacing of photograph with drawings and paintings indicated a value that denizens of PPC attached not just to objective knowledge but also to expressive knowledge and art. They seem to value expresisonism and expressiveness over realism. If they have the technological capacity to understand so much objectively/scientifically (all the way down to emotions), they may have correspondingly interest in non-objective, artistic, and linguistic (and puzzling?) kinds of knowledge.

No, it's OK that you want to participate. I also want to make good posts with info that I consider could be useful, just to find that somebody else posted it before (I am new to ARGs, just like many other people around here). But I don't quit trying. Please, never, ever stay quiet because you are afraid to be "trouted". Search carefully, then post it. Spec is important in ARGs.
A good alternative is for you to try different search key words. For example, "initiative" was the key word I used to find the posts where I had seen the meanings of the word "sente". It is good to have you here, just try to refine your search skills.
Edit:
u05mpb: If you see this post, I want to apologize if I was too rude (Trout are too powerful underwater weapons, they must be used wisely ).
I encourage you and everybody else to share their knowledge with the rest of us. That's the only way that we can be able to discover new interesting things that we didn't know about before. Just use a more "careful" search.
