Perplexcity is an interesting case. Today we had an example similar to that of Project Gateway. An article in an IG newspaper posted by a player ³ explained ARGs and that we all think we're playing a game (whilst pretending that we're not). Characters have frequently directed us to articles hosted at OOG news sites (and one poor guy who designs ambigrams, who's personal details were dissected during a low update period (and there was quite a lot of that).

I can only rationalise this by assuming that no character would bother contacting us here as they're aware of the rules, would have their message wiped, and would have wasted less time by setting up their own blog (or even forum, which I think might be a route that Mind Candy will take, but they're commercial). Or (and I like this one) that we're in a little internet bubble (kinda like a kid hiding behind their hands) protected from the fiction outside (I've just had a sudden realisation...Unfiction...never even looked at it as a word before! ).

In terms of game mechanisms in general, what purpose is served by posting to a forum that isn't served by any other method of contact that a PM has at their disposal? And IU is at their disposal.

I think this discussion sort of boils down to (and I don't mean to be offensive) one kid trying to pry anothers hands away from his eyes, despite him being happy in his own little world.
