[ADVERTISEMENT] Beware the heat?

So anyone seen these little commercials showing up every now and again, can't remember the details, but always ending with 'beware the heat.com'? I'm thinking a little vague, and just enticing enough to be some sort of at least a mini-ARG. If this is old news, trout me, but I searched for all possible forms of the URL (http://www.bewaretheheat.com/), and came up with nothing.

[TRAILHEAD?] Beware The Heat

I was scanning through the #unfiction chat logs today when I came across this. I wasn't in the room at the time, but the exchange looks a wee bit, um.... viral, to me.

Code:
* G7K has joined #unfiction
* dmax shakes fist at self
<Addlepated> buh?
<Lou> but bad for the environment
<Nightmaretony> I'm sorry, Dmax.
<Cortana> today was a good day, I've taken that quiz while frustrated, and gotten 91%
<dmax> heh
<dmax> i hit 62%
<Lou> quiz?
<G7K> hey! anybody hear of "bewaretheheat.com"?
<dmax> www.livejournal.com/~dmax801
<Cortana> Lou> It's in my LJ
<Addlepated> As a fiscally conservative socially libertarian, I'm so torn driving such an ecologically-correct car.
* toonith5 has quit IRC (Client closed connection)
<RedFox> another livejournal, mwuahaha!
<dmax> addle, you should be giving other people rides in it while it's turned off, moving it only under your own power
<Addlepated> don't give away my secrets!
<fireball> mmmm....oily goodness
* random|bed has joined #unfiction
* fireball eats sweet potato pancakes
<Addlepated> I was thinking about getting a "My other car is a Prius" sticker for the Suburban, and a "My other car is a Suburban" sticker for the Prius, and that way I can piss EVERYONE off.
* random|bed is now known as randomeis
<RedFox> ooh.
<RedFox> fireball, where from?
<G7K> I saw an odd commercial on television earlier this evening, it directed me to "bewaretheheat.com"

And that was all G7K had to say about that...

www.bewaretheheat.com... Flash interface, videos of 'warnings' (professional-looking, no less), submit-your-email-to-find-out-more form... looks like this is either an ARG... or an entryway to finding out about the cool new "Sprite - With Turkey Gravy!" drink.

Whatever comes of this, know that I am only the messenger. Very Happy

Edit: Curses... someone was posting about this exact very same thing while I was. Oh well... merging threads I guess!

Actually I've never seen anything like that, but then again I don't pay attention to comercials much.

It looks more like an ad for sprite or sierra mist, something along those lines.

Anyway, besides the obvious I didn't see anything strange.

Well, I signed up for info 'before the heat arrives' or whatever it was, and got a message back:

Thanks J,

You did the right thing signing up at Beware the Heat.com.
http://www.bewaretheheat.com

If you want to be a real hero though, let your friends in on the info. Pass along this email and let them know that if they register at Beware the Heat.com they'll also be one step ahead of the pack when "the heat" hits. And you better believe it will.
http://www.bewaretheheat.com

In the meantime, stay cool.

A Message from Beware the Heat.com

That's all so far, awaiting more.

Also, I find it kind of funny that I was posting this thread at the same time as a mod. Funny ha-ha, not funny strange, of course.

Sprite might not be too far off - WHOIS (sigh) leads to an administrative contact at http://www.bbdo.ca/ - an ad agency that's worked with FedEx, Wrigley's Gum, Campbell's Soup and Pepsi / 7up. Oh, and the Colo-Rectal Initiative.

gah. Friends don't let friends forward chain letters.

True viral marketing doesn't specifically TELL you to generate that word-of-mouth buzz! They're supposed to create something so intriguing that people naturally talk about it.

/me grumps a lot today.

I'm sure it's just a pop ad.

It does look a bit too shiny to be an ARG in regards to the videos, but you never know....

That music is too creepy to not be an arg.

Is anyone else bothered by how the response e-mail repeats www.bewaretheheat.com 3 times? Seems a little excessive to me.
