Email exchange with Virgil

So, I emailed Virgil the day after we found the email address. Here's what I emailed:

==============================
Virgil,

I'm assuming that you put your email address into your site in the
manner you did to attract only a "certain" type of individual to find
it, and that if said individual *did* find it, that you wished to be
contacted by those same people. I am one of those people, and as such
am contacting you.

Mainly I wanted to express my admiration for your dedication to the
art of gaming, and to also comment on the originality of your site.
The flash background and puzzles are very interesting and
entertaining.

I have a question for you, however. After going through your site and
seeing the information you have on Nisha, I'm curious as to why you
have Emile querying the Retrievers for information on her mannerisms,
etc - it appears to me that you have VERY detailed notes on this very
subject, in much more detail than any of the Retrievers have yet been
able to provide.

Also, I want you to know that I'm concerned for you. Believe me, I
understand your loss and devistation, but you must understand that in
order to be available for someone new, you have to get over your past.
Although your very detailed notes on Nisha would be very helpful to
the development of The Nisha Chronicles, it also speaks of a rather
unhealthy obsession with her. Unless you resolve your grief issues, a
meaningful relationship with Nisha will be difficult to obtain.

Yes, I know - I am a complete stranger to you. However, as I stated
before, I believe you desired to be contacted - but by a certain type
of person, hopefully one you can trust. Believe me when I tell you
that I only have your best interests at heart.

Hope to see you at ComicCon San Diego in July!
Your friend,
Celina
=============================

Finally got a response from him today, and it wasn't near as nice as rose's Sad :

=============================
What I seek will not be difficult to obtain after Nisha finally sees the
truth.

Thank you for your concern, Doctor.
=============================

Sheesh. Some people just can't take advice.

Movie recommendations to virgil...

Maybe he isn't nice to you because you don't flatter him enough? Who knows what makes him tick? Someone said that the problem with dealing with a crazy person is that you have to think like a crazy person. hmmmm. Anyway, here is the latest correspondance with Virgil, but nothing game related from him.
Me to Virgil:

Quote:
Hello Virgil,

I saw a movie that I think you would enjoy called "Howl's Moving Castle."
Take Emile and take a break and go watch it.

Rose

From Virgil to me
Quote:

Yes, I've heard some great things about that film. Unfortunately, with all that's going on, I don't see that happening any time soon.

Funny you should mention it, though, I was just reading a rare interview with the director during lunch today:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8184320/site/newsweek/

Now there is a fascinating mind, informed by such seemingly incongruous perspectives. People will surely remember him for generations. A true artist.

Thanks for the recommendation, anyway.
---

So I wrote back:
Quote:
Dear Virgil -

I know you're busy... but a bit of time away might help you out and with your love of art, the astounding beauty of the film will capture you.
They are doing a show of the director's work at the newly-renovated Musuem of Modern Art.

Anyway, take care and if you need a retriever to help you with anything, let me know..

By the way, did you know that Ian found the 5th SD card? I just found out myself.

~r.

He hasn't answered, maybe because of the way I spelled Museum. Embarassed

And FYI: here is the first email I sent.. the one that he responded to nicely...

Quote:
hello Virgil,

After weeks of effort and a few major course corrections, and a couple of hard shoves, we finally found the answer to your cube puzzle. We being the Retrievers, you know us of course, from our assisting Nisha in her quest.

I haven't had a chance to review all the information in the future files.

But I wanted to at least say hello... I have been one of your supporters throughout this whole endeaver. Ask Emile, I corresponded briefly with him.

As for Mr. Erdelmann, I would love to have your assistance in finding out more about him. You know that we have identified him as a forger and that Gunter, before his death, admitted knowing him. He may be a murderer so any help you could give us would be welcomed.

Oh, someone mentioned that you had lost things in a fire, but I didn't see anything about that in your bio. I hope that you didn't lose too much and that you and your home were safe.

Take care of yourself. You guys at Tatum Think work as hard as Merger and Acquisitions lawyers!

Rose

Finally registered here.

I have been dealing with Virgil as well. I can be the good cop...this is my first letter and his response.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good morning, Mr. Tatum.

My name is Jason Block and I was one of Nisha's retrievers in NYC...the man on camera with the bad temper and the worse British Accent.

Why I write you is simple.

Another man maybe trying to besmirch your name. He goes by the handle "scapegoat0531". He claims that you fired him without cause and thinks that Emile Smithson(a new friend of mine and old one of yours) is "a bootlicker" and anyone who works for you now is a "TatumThink slave".

Care to elaborate as to why this guy would want to take you down?

Jason Block
NYC

"0531," eh? Very interesting.

As far as this person's motives are concerned, there will always be those jealous, undisciplined, misguided individuals who attempt to lash out against those more talented and focused than they are, in an attempt to make themselves feel better about their own inadequacies. This person exhibited extremely unprofessional behavior time and again, and was finally dealt with after several warnings. Unfortunately, some of these types of people occasionally are able to slip through the cracks and land a job with TatumThink, but they are soon weeded out.

Thank you for passing along the information.

This was my latest reply--nothing back from him.

You are quite welcome. Are you enjoying all the attention your webpage is getting? I mean a lot of people have been going through your webpage trying to find out the true meaning of the enigma of Virgil Tatum. There must be hundreds of layers of the onion of Virgil.

Do you even know who you really are? (That is not being negative, that is just being inquisitive?)

There are some people in this world who don't ever find out who they are.

Being a person who is considered not in the mainstream(being more intelligent than most...smart people never get the girl anyway), I see where you are coming from.
Mozart died at 35 in a pauper's grave--to use a musical artist, not just one with a paintbrush. He should have been lauded like the world, but was never appreciated until he were dead. Or do you see yourself liking Salieri?

Jason Block.

See Rose--I made it!

well, Celina brought up a suggestion with his love life, being a touchy subject for him, obviously, it seems this is a topic to shy away from. Go more towards art, and figuring out his puzzles, comments on his 133t coding skillz, maybe even bring up that you wonder if Ian could hack his site, though that might be getting a little too close to the love life thang thang.

I, personally, want to know more about Erdleman. Bring up the comment from Emile about him saying "YES! YES! TURTLE MEN! TURTLE MEN!" and that we think he may have been saying "Erdleman! Erdleman!"

He knows the man, fingers have been pointing at him more so than the other painters-of-fakes, even Nisha thinks so, so we need more info about him.

EDIT: Nevermind this part

also, that "0531" thing is interesting, as both Virgil AND Emile have said it's significant. Didn't Scapegoat say it was the day he got fired? I have a feeling it's much more significant than that, maybe bring it up?

I sent him an email from work. Haven't recieved a reply. Dunno

Quote:

Dear Virgil,

I'm so sorry I missed you at E3, I never did get that card you left for me, but word trickled down that you had stopped by the booth. Thursday was my day off to wander about on my own volition, so they wouldn't have known where I was as I didn't check in at the booth in the morning. Do you happen to recall what the person you gave the card to looked like? I would like to be able to add your card to my file.

You have a very interesting web site. You may want to get those video files of Nisha walking around over to your animators if you haven't already. They would come in handy with the lack of a mo-cap session I'm sure.

So strange we didn't run into you at the Audi/Urbs party at Coachella… I mean, we were totally focused on the car, believing we were the only ones at the party who knew what was up. But Jane's pink wig rather stood out. Oh well, I suppose running into your old friend was rather distracting. Smile It seems we are destined to never come face to face.

Sincerely,
"HitsHerMark"

Tried playing the bad cop. No reply so far. He probably just thought I was a troll.

I also have the plan to tell Virgil what Nisha said to Ian about busting him and sending him the file of their conversation.... I think I'll do that... could bring up certain information...

Edit: Here is my message to him...
***********************************************************
Dear Virgil,
I am one of those that have been following you, Nisha, and Ian... no doubt others have contacted you. I come to you because I believe that Nisha is NOT your future... and in fact Nisha is the reason you are in this entire predicament to begin with. I believe she is using you and Ian to find out what Gunter, God rest his soul, put on those SD cards in the Audis because she will be caught for what she is... a theif and a liar.
I do have proof that you are being played off of Ian by her... here I submit the sites for your access...

A conversation between Ian and Nisha
http://iannet.lastresortretrieval.com/nisha/001429.html

A conversation between you and Nisha
http://iannet.lastresortretrieval.com/nisha/001430.html

Now if you listened to these, which from your quisitive personality you have, you would find that she says the same thing to both of you more or less. I can also say that she probably killed Gunter also because she didn't get any information from him.
Also I ponder why Oak and Myke are dead after helping Nisha and failing on some aspect of their part of the mission... Oak and the video jackets and Myke had communications trouble... coincidence, I think not! More over, Nisha could have used someone she knew to sign that document in Ian's name and then she killed them... their cases to never be solved because of lack of evidence... the killer of the three men( Myke, Oak, and now Gunter) had to be trained and very professional about it to not get caught... and Nisha has those skills.
You may want to call Erdlemen, as he has helped you in the past, and ask him if he has been visited by any women that seem a little 'on the edge.' He will probably go into detail about how a women, stunningly beautiful and slightly insane seeming, got into his house, tied him to a chair, and began interrogating him about why he makes his paintings and other such questions... and whilst questioning happened she slashed the projects he was working on, he could also tell you that she ate a piece and then described in amazing detail what hue it was and the base that it used.
All I will say is that you should be more careful about what you say around her and about how you say certain stuff... I can only hope that I am wrong. Only time will tell.

Best of Luck on the Nisha Chronicles Vol. I and with life in general,
-BottomlessPitMan

*************************************************************
I just hope he bites into my theory... and calls Nisha on playing the both of them... I really hope he does it... it would change him forever...

Hello, HitsHerMark. I'm sorry to have missed you at Coachella and E3 as well; it's always a pleasure to speak to a true fan of TatumThink.

I don't recall to whom among your friends I gave my card--I gave out quite a few that day--but if you give me your mailing address, perhaps your collection soon will be graced with one.

My responce...

I normally don't give my mailing address out to strange men, but if you really wanted it you could get it from Nisha; and Ian has it, whom I know you believe to be a cad. So... I guess I do give it to strange men after all… I should probably get a new PO Box huh?  Actually, I received an invitation to your party in Santa Monica, perhaps we can defy fate and I may receive one from your hand?

I got some more replies...

Interesting analogy, Jason. Are you asking about my musical preferences, or whether I consider myself more like Mozart or Salieri? If the latter, I've never been much for pop-culture armchair psychoanalysis, but at least your rubric for comparison is more erudite and compelling than most, so I'll bite.

There are times when I feel like Mozart, a conduit through which the divine speaks, and there are also times when I feel like Salieri. It's often a struggle between the two; sadly, Salieri usually wins.

Then I wrote back...

I wasn't going for the armchair pop-psychology. I was trying to get to know you. But genius is often for the most part misunderstood. And you, as the "King of Code", it seems to me, has never been appreciated for the genius that you are. I mean look at what you have put in your webpages and how many people have wanted to find out whats happening.

That's brilliance.

And let me tell you about Salieri. He was brilliant too.

Jason Block

And then he wrote...

Brilliant, yes. But forever overshadowed by the brilliance of his contemporary, all but relegated to a footnote in the pages of Mozart. I cannot dwell in such a place.

Thanks for understanding me, Jason.

And then this was my last response...

I understand.

If you watch the movie on DVD, (again I know your lack of time...) you see what happened. Salieri couldn't understand how Mozart was given the gift of talent by God.

But you see, I think I do understand you. You want to leave a lasting imprint on the world. You want to have a legacy that people for years to come. You want the world to know the brilliance of Tatum.

I think a lot of people appreciate it, even though they called that 20X20X20 thing the "evil cube."

To put all these layers on the website is brilliant. People are pulling their hair out to get to the center. They WANT to know.

It's a start.

At least I think so.

Jason
