[PUZZLE?] More Headlines

From the Futures of this week, and mentioned elsewhere on different threads....
Quote:
The Dice (October 11 - November 10)
If anybody ever needed a little sharp red, it's you, poppet. There's something big whacking you right on the nose, and you too dull to just put the pieces together. Why don't you jumble it all together and take another look?
(Italics are mine)
I thought, what whacks you on the nose?
It brought to mind the old way of training a dog with a rolled up newspaper.
So, looking a little closer at 'The Sentinel', I noticed this in the "More Headlines" listing...
Quote:
Westing Founds Trust
Storm Hits Hard
CNV Up on Earnings
Laugh & Relax, Say Docs
Serena Shows Off
Stonebluth Caught
CODE
But I found nothing else when looking at the archived "More Headlines" .
I guess it's just a fluke. Dunno

I suspect it is just apophenia (God, I love that word), but seeing as how I'm frequently proved wrong, it might just be something worth lookin into Smile

One of the best (and worst) things about PC is the fact that you never know if you are reading too much into something, or not enough. We have puzzled over the releavence of the Futures for months, even though I suspect that they were only concieved for the GYvvan puzzle, and are being continued for continuity's sake. It is wonderful how people can notice something that (may) be accidental, and wonder whether it is of significance, and spend 30 mins digging through past articles!

about the futures thingy, i think ur looking from the wrong angle, u know the acendancy point page? in the visitors section it talks about murals:

In particular, the murals in the Grand Atrium are a very popular feature for visitors. They represent the Five Tasks of Madna in the writings of Lemnal:

Navigating the Maze of Stars
Stealing the apple from the jaws of the giant crocodile
Filling the Mazy River using a jug
Slaying the bird-headed demon Rifvar
Outwitting Losik, the trickster, in a wrestling match

these sound too much like the futures subjects to me for it to be a coincidence, am i reading too much into stuff/being thick?

eg)

stealing apple... apple theif
filling the mazy river using a jug... half filled jug
slaying bird headed deamon.... not sure? archer?
outwitting trickster... trickster... dice??

anyways, what do other ppl think, hope im not wasting people time

Yeah, I definitely agree with you, Perplexed. I brought that up a couple weeks ago here. Also, slaying the bird-headed demon might be the Eagle.

A fair point, as I think I said in the last thread about this. Although whether it's meant to be a *clue* is another question. I get the feeling we may be looking at this the wrong way round: if the Tasks of Madna are a vital part of Perplexian mythology (which they appear to be), then naming the constellations in memory of them is...er...precisely how the Greeks and Romans named most of 'our' constellations. You know, Orion's Belt is 'Orion's Belt' because of the legend about Orion the Hunter etc. So, I totally agree that the myth of stealing the apples is what is likely to be commemorated in the constellation known as 'The Apple Thief' (is it a picture of the actual thief? Or a crocodile with an apple being taken out of its mouth? Who knows...although based on Earth astrological models, it won't actually look anything like those pictures unless you're being very imaginative...). But to read that backwards e.g. The Futures are coded to give us some insight into how to conduct investigations within Ascendancy Point, say, seems a bit like backwards thinking to me. Not saying it couldn't be the case, but applying Occam's Razor, it seems less likely than the reverse (namely, that the murals depict the mythologies which, in turn, inspired the constellation naming).

jus an idea, but is this futures thing sposed to mean something if u put the futures in order? with the last two as eagle and three balls?

What I wouldn't give to be you this week! Just between you and me, though, you might want to keep it under your hat for a while. You're about to feel the hand of luck, and that can make people a little jealous.

Loving, laughing, two by two; is that what humankind's to do? If that's the truth that sets us free, then where does that bring thee and me?

There is a fine line between lovability and lunacy, duckling, and you've been doing a bit of veering these days. Try to tone down the hysteria and get in touch with what really matters.

Thinking about a big change? Start with a haircut instead. It might change how people react to you just enough that you can figure out how happy you really are, after all.

Gosh, I'm scared for you. You've been hanging around some dodgy characters lately, huh? Cut your local psychic a break, promise to lock your doors at night and make sure your mum always knows where you are.

jus an idea, there may be some kinda simple code? Or maybe its a reference to egyptian hierogliphs? and therefore a message, the above r all jus ideas, and as such have not fermented in my mind so watever anybody else thinks is kl too.

I'm having a hard tyme with the search/forum commands but this looked the best place to post.

The futures are the Zodiac: They Change them up everyweek.

Violet is a dragon.
The Dragon (August 11 - September 10) (Her birthday's comming up)
Those birds, chirping on the windowsill -- what are they trying to tell you? Well, I'll tell you, maybe you shouldn't be coming home at sunup when you're due at work in a few hours, pumpkin

She Stays up all night playing poker.

The Futures may be more plot development for the characters.

Week of aug. 22
The Dragon:
It may seem a little premature, but maybe you should start planning your, you know, final arrangements. Maybe look into a good life insurance policy. I'm not saying anything. Just a sharp kid is always prepared.

and um, here i was going to point out how Aiko looked at her and that was a month before this. But then i noticed that this is the week she started pulling favors for the "Third Power Book" ... all just theory... Hope my searching worked and i'm not just regurgitating.

A fair point, Talos, as we've all been hoping for/expecting her death for at least a few weeks now. Scarlett's too.

What? Don't tell me you all aren't hoping for it. You know it's true.
