Strange hidden text...

Ok, totally weird - totally offtopic and probably nothing important

I was reading Yahoo! news about Elitetorrents.org - a website shut down by the FBI for distributing Star Wars Episode 3 illegally.

Just becuase I have too much time on my hands, I went to the site

www.elitetorrents.org

Typical FBI shutdown junk

EXCEPT, press control-A to select everything and scroll to the bottom of the page. Blatently hidden, red text on a red background.

Quote:
RTJKJAS

What the heck?

There's only one vowel so it probably doesn't spell a name or something - but it could be an acronym.

Anyway - since the FBI has access to the server, I was curious as to WHY it might be there. They redid the front page on their own so they HAD to have put that there on purpose.

Anyway, I guess I'll be disappearing soon, so, continue the fight Cool

Interesting

When I google searched for "RTJKJAS" I got nothing.

Weird.

My spanish (if that's what it is, is terrible, I couldn't tackle that with a spanish-english dictionary)

:\ I can contact some of my buddies and see what comes up.

Looks like we've got a regular ol' mystery on our hands.

I'm sure I recognize that RTJKJAS from another ARG on here. I searched but only came up with entries from this thread. I googled it and came up with nothing. That text is actually Polish (or a Polish variation) and I came up with this so far
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Translation:

But it on bottom of part on redly " " not RTJKJAS bylo widac, what it? - - pozdr. Raptor

My general understading of that is "On the bottom of the page, don't read as RJTJJAS (or) it's not RTJKJAS, but what is it?

Interesting so you think you've seen it from another ARG?

WHOA, I looked at the page source in Mozilla and it's changed drastically from last time.

Last time it was around 300 lines now it's about 25

The IP address is EliteTorrents.org - but - how can you write a site referencing itself - I'm a computer programmer (I deal mostly with software, not HTML) and that makes absolutly no sense to me

EDIT:

Also, I checked the images, they are all saved as image002, image004 and image006, from left to right on the page. There are no image001, 003 or 005.

EDIT #2:

Actually, there are! But they are repeats of the previous image, larger versions

And now FINALLY having found the REAL source - I found THIS commented out of the code at the start:

192.31.21.68 is not the elitetorrents ip - it's merely the ip hosting the page (which is probably a generic one. The elitetorrents ip is 64.202.167.129. If you're interested, here's the whois for 192.e.t.c:

Looking at the name server, it doesn't look quite right. Those guys wouldn't be affiliated with the MPAA/RIAA/BSA or the DoJ, would they?

*edit*
Further rummaging through the source shows that this page was created in MS Word. Hardly the class act we'd expect from the Feds, is it? On top of that, why would the DoJ and Homeland Security even get involved? Apologies if it seems obvious, but I'm not familiar with US law enforcement.

I checked www.sdslug.org and there's nothing - white page, no header and it's source is:

Quote:
<html><body></body></html>

I searched for "San Diego Supercomputer Center" and got:

http://www.sdsc.edu/ It's the San Diego Supercomputer Center AT

University of California San Diego.

Now, I know that the FBI has an office here on my campus at Louisiana State University, but I dont think they use our supercomputer or resources to host websites.

I also don't exactly think that the FBI writes it's source code in MSWord - so this is weird.

Im searching to find any news articles from anywhere about an FBI office at UCSD but I can't find ANYTHING.

So what we know:

EliteTorrents.org was "shut down" by the FBI and Department of Homeland Security.

There was the hidden text: "RTJKJAS" further down on the page.

RTJKJAS returns no results except for ONE post in Polish about the same question, what is RTJKJAS.

The website frontpage, with the information about the shutdown is hosted (? am I right?) on a supercomputer complex at the University of California San Diego.

UCSD seems to have no affiliation with the FBI what so ever: or does it? I think the next step is to find out if the FBI has an office at UCSD.

Further more - call this Thomas Hutton, the registered technician?

OOG. (EDIT: Err... That is, if this IS a game. Which it probably isn't. So... Yeah.)

This ALWAYS gets commented on when found in an ARG, and I always end up explaining. >_>

From the page you linked to:
Quote:
Abstract

This specification defines the HyperText Markup Language (HTML), the publishing language of the World Wide Web. This specification defines HTML 4.01, which is a subversion of HTML 4. In addition to the text, multimedia, and hyperlink features of the previous versions of HTML (HTML 3.2 [HTML32] and HTML 2.0 [RFC1866]), HTML 4 supports more multimedia options, scripting languages, style sheets, better printing facilities, and documents that are more accessible to users with disabilities. HTML 4 also takes great strides towards the internationalization of documents, with the goal of making the Web truly World Wide.

HTML 4 is an SGML application conforming to International Standard ISO 8879 -- Standard Generalized Markup Language [ISO8879].

Going by the way the UK telephone systems work (again, I may be wrong about the US), the San Diego FBI office (858-565) is not remotely near the UCSD (858-534). This doesn't rule out the possibility that they have an office on campus (even less so that they use the datacenter), but it wasn't listed in the FBI Field Divisions page.

Also, looking at past torrent shutdowns, they've all (that I've found on google and slashdot, anyway) been done by the MPAA. Additionally, I remember hearing that the FBI only dealt with matters of ridiculously high monetary loss. I imagine that it would be nigh on impossible to prove such losses over a film (Revenge of the Sith, which CNN seems to think this is about) which pulled $50 Million on the first day of screening.

What an anti climax Embarassed

That sucks

But WHY RTJKJAS

If it was the FBI - what's the deal

If it was a hoax - what the deuce does it mean?

Either way - I can't figure out what Slyck is trying to say about the site, was it the FBI or was it a hoax?
